Pan-Fried Garlic Tofu<br /><br />Ingredients:<br /><br />3 cloves garlic, grated<br />1 lime, zest and juice<br />1 tbsp toasted sesame oil<br />2 tsp Sambal Oelek (or substitute Sriracha)<br />5 tbsp soy sauce (or coconut aminos for a gluten-free option)<br />1/4 cup water (or low sodium vegetable broth)<br />1/4 cup light brown sugar<br />1 tbsp cornstarch<br />15 oz super-firm or extra-firm tofu, pressed and drained well<br />Vegetable oil for cooking<br />1 to 2 green onions, sliced on the diagonal<br />1/2 cup fresh cilantro, roughly chopped<br />1 tbsp toasted white sesame seeds for garnish<br /><br />Directions:<br /><br />Mix all sauce ingredients except the cornstarch in a small bowl. Cut tofu into ½" cubes and marinate in half the sauce for 20 minutes. Optionally, coat marinated tofu in 2-3 tbsp of cornstarch for crispiness. Heat a skillet with vegetable oil over medium heat and fry tofu until golden. Simmer the remaining sauce and thicken with a cornstarch slurry.
