My first @stetinaspaydirt is in the books! It wasn’t really the finish I wanted because I missed the cutoff for segment 3, but the company, Catron, laughs, and fun more than made up for it. How did I get so lucky to find such wonderful and supportive community? I am really proud of how far I’ve come. I keep forgetting that I’ve only really riding bikes since the end of July. This really showed me what my strengths are (listening to @taylorswift on repeat, falling in bushes, zipping through sand, scarfing down hot dogs, peer pressuring), and where I can improve (hopping curbs, knowing when to dial back because I’m tired, and a lot of other things). I have a couple more gravel races on the calendar this year, and I’m already so excited to come back next year to see how much more I’ve grown as a cyclist. Happy Friday!! From the road and the writings of Vasefinder: Father Anthony Bellesorte (1935-2018) was born and reared in Philadelphia. He studied Business and Engineering at Drexel University, where he received his B.S. in Commerce in 1957. From 1957-1961, he was employed with Allis-Chalmers, which ultimately led him to being relocated to the San Francisco, Bay Area. In 1963, he entered the Dominican Order and furthered his studies, where he received a degree in Philosophy and advanced degree in Theology from Saint Albert's, Oakland, California. It was while he was studying at Saint Albert's, that Father Anthony became very interested in abstract painting, but it was the chance studying of ceramics at a neighbor school Holy Names University during one summer that working in clay became his medium of choice. In 1969, he was ordained a priest and in 1971, he was sent on a pastoral training program. After one year in the pastoral program, his preference was to enter the Abbey of New Clairvaux, Trappist Monastery in Vina, California. In 1972, he started the process of saving funds from the sale of black walnuts to build a studio, which he accomplished in 1973. Shortly thereafter, he was selling his pottery around the country. Father Anthony's work includes a superb arsenal of designed glazes used to decorate a red stoneware body fired to cone 4 or 5 of primarily vessel and vase forms. His earliest works are signed "Anthony OP," where OP is for the Order of Preachers. His work is included in the collection of the Ross C. Purdy Museum of Ceramics and the Vasefinder Ceramic Art Museum of Carson City, Nevada.
