🇩🇪 Ankunft in Rom war zwar einen Tag vor diesem Foto, aber wir waren so platt von der letzten Etappe, dass wir die Bilder mit unseren Pilgerurkunden erst am nächsten Tag gemacht hatten - da war der Petersplatz nur leider gesperrt. Via di San Francesco Etappe Tenuta di Biscina - Valfabbrica Wiederum ganz toller Höhenweg mit Blick auf den gestauten Fluss Biscina. Den locker geschriebenen Halbsatz ‚zweimal Bach von Seitentälern überqueren‘ habe ich heute ernst genommen und war gewappnet für die Auf- und Abstiege (in gerader Linie😂). Ich hatte sogar genug Energie, um die Weg-Variante mit deutlich mehr Höhenmetern zu wählen. Man möchte ja am Abend ohne Reue einen grossen Teller Pasta geniessen können😜 Die Via di San Francesco ist bekanntlich ein Pilgerweg. Deshalb gibt es viele Kreuze, kleine Kappellen und andere Zeichen der Pilger. Sogar der Strommast passt sich an und erscheint in der ganzen Gegend in Form eines Kreuzes😂. Schmunzeln musste ich über meine Übersetzungs-App, die bei ‚sbarra‘ sagte: Achtung Bar in 80 Metern. Schön wär’s😁. Da Temperaturen bis ca. 30 Grad angesagt waren und wir aufgrund des Ryder Cup keine Unterkunft mehr für eine Zwischenstation gefunden haben, mussten wir eine Doppeletappe laufen. 🇩🇪 Etappe 11: Montelibretti - Monterotondo, ca. 17,5 km. Der strahlendblaue Himmel hat uns auch auf unserer vorletzten Etappe nach Rom begleitet. Leider waren die Markierungen nicht immer überall so eindeutig wie an diesem Rebstock, was dazu geführt hat, dass wir (wiedermal) falsch abgebogen sind und ein Stück zurück laufen mussten. Die Beschilderung in Umbrien hat uns insgesamt besser gefallen. Aber Franz schickt einen immer mal gerne auf Irrwege. 🇬🇧 Stage 11: Montelibretti - Monterotondo, approx. 17.5 km. The bright blue sky also accompanied us on our penultimate stage to Rome. Unfortunately, the markings were not always as clear as on this vine, which meant that we (once again) took a wrong turn and had to walk back a bit. 🇩🇪 Auf dieser Etappe gab es vergleichsweise wenig Höhenmeter. Nur der Endspurt nach Montelibretti war ein steiler Aufstieg. Der Ort trägt das "Monte" nicht umsonst im Namen. 🇩🇪 Die letzten Kilometer nach Ponticelli waren sehr anstrengend. Der Blick in die Berge war ohne Zweifel fantastisch und hat uns immer wieder kurz anhalten lassen, um die Aussicht zu genießen, aber Schatten war rar und die Sonne hat gebrannt. Aber die Strapazen haben sich gelohnt. In Ponticelli mag es nicht viel geben, dafür hatten wir hier einen der wunderbarsten Aufenthalte auf der ganzen Südroute. Die Barbesitzer des kleinen Ortes betreiben auch eine Pilgerherberge und kümmern sich wirklich mit Leib und Seele um ihre Gäste. Die beiden gehören wohl zu unseren "Trail Angels" auf dem Franziskusweg. 🇬🇧 The last few kilometres to Ponticelli were very strenuous. The view of the mountains was undoubtedly fantastic and made us stop again and again to enjoy the view, but shade was rare and the sun was burning. But the effort was worth it. There may not be much in Ponticelli, but we had one of the most wonderful stops on the entire southern route. The bar owners of the small village also run a pilgrims' hostel and really put their heart and soul into looking after their guests. 🇩🇪 Der kleine, etwas mehr als 500 Einwohner zählende Ort Poggio San Lorenzo, gibt einem das Gefühl, in der Zeit zurück gereist zu sein. 🇩🇪 Nur weil die Wegabschnitte entlang der (Schnell-)Straßen hinter Rieti langsam, aber merklich zunehmen, heißt das natürlich nicht, dass es gar keine ruhigen Orte mehr gibt. Auf dieser Etappe konnten wir Pause an einer alten Römerbrücke machen, Feld- und Wiesenblumen bewundern, die hügelige Aussicht genießen, verlassene Gebäude bestaunen und kleinere Waldstücke durchqueren. 🇬🇧 Just because the sections along the (motorway) roads slowly but noticeably increase after Rieti does not mean that there are no more quiet places. 🇩🇪 Etappe 8: Rieti - Poggio San Lorenzo, ca. 20,5 km. Ab Rieti sind es noch ziemlich genau 100 km bis nach Rom. Nach dem Pausentag machte mein Fuß so gut wie keine Probleme mehr und die Strecke war die meiste Zeit recht einfach und flach. Allerdings, was man hier auf dem Foto jetzt nicht sieht, wurde der Weg langsam immer asphaltlastiger und es ging immer wieder neben der Straße lang. Aber auch das gehört nun mal zum Pilgern und hat den schönen Wegabschnitten keinen Abbruch getan. 🇬🇧 Stage 8: Rieti - Poggio San Lorenzo, approx. 20.5 km. From Rieti, it's almost exactly 100 kilometres to Rome. After the rest day, my foot was no longer causing me big problems, and the route was fairly easy and flat most of the time. However, as you can't see in the photo, the path slowly became more and more asphalt and often followed alongside the busy road. 🇩🇪 Geplanter Pausentag. Neben Assisi und La Verna suchte Franz wohl auch gerne das Reatiner Tal auf. Wir konnten das nur zu gut nachvollziehen und haben in Rieti, das von Sabiner und Reatiner Bergen umgeben ist, einen Tag Pause gemacht. Den haben wir zum einen genutzt, um in einem netten Hotel auszuruhen und neue Kräfte für die letzten rund 100 km zu sammeln, aber natürlich auch, um uns die Stadt anzusehen. Fazit: Rieti hat eine absolut wunderschöne Altstadt, ist im Vergleich nicht zu trubelig, aber belebt und, was uns besonders gefreut hat, hier haben wir ein paar bekannte, aber auch neue Mitpilger (wieder)getroffen. 🇬🇧 Planned break day. In addition to Assisi and La Verna, Franz also liked to visit the Reatine Valley. We could understand this only too well and took a day's break in Rieti, which is surrounded by the Sabine and Reatine mountains. 🇩🇪 Das Santuario della Foresta gehört zu vier lokalen, von Franziskus gegründeten Heiligtümern. 1225 lud Kardinal Ugolino, später Papst Gregor IX., ihn ein nach Rieti. Ein angesehener Arzt, der sich in der Stadt aufhielt, sollte Franziskus' Augenleiden behandeln. Wie es seinem Wesen entsprach, zog er einen ländlichen Ort für seine Gebete vor und kehrte so im Santuario della Foresta, damals noch San Fabiano, ein. Der Legende nach, soll Franziskus während seiner Zeit im Santuario eine magere Traubenernte in eine beträchtliche Menge Wein verwandelt haben. 🇬🇧 The Santuario della Foresta is one of four local sanctuary-monasteries founded by St Francis. In 1225, Cardinal Ugolino, later Pope Gregory IX, invited him to Rieti. A respected doctor who was staying in the city was to treat Francis' eye ailments. In keeping with his nature, he preferred a rural location for his prayers and so stayed at the Santuario della Foresta, then known as San Fabiano. 🇩🇪 Kurzer Zwischenstopp in Cantalice am Fuße des 2.216 m hohen Monte Terminillo. Unser Pausenplatz befand sich direkt vor der Rocca di Cantalice sowie der barocken Basilica di San Felice, die aus dem 18. Jahrhundert stammt und dem Schutzpatron des Dorfes, dem Kapuzinermönch Felix von Cantalice (1513 - 1587) geweiht ist. Sowohl der Blick zum Ort hoch als auch vom Ort zurück über die Landschaft waren großartig. 🇬🇧 Short stopover in Cantalice at the foot of the 2,216 metre-high Monte Terminillo. 🇩🇪 Mit dem Bus ging es schließlich weiter zum Tagesziel Poggio Bustone. Der kleine und v.a. im Abendlicht wirklich sehr schöne Bergort liegt am nördlichen Rand des Hochtals Conca Di Rieti und ist von den Reatinischen Abruzzen umgeben. Als wir an der Kirche San Giovanni Battista ankamen, hatte diese leider bereits geschlossen. Im Inneren befindet sich ein Fresko aus dem 15. Jhd., dessen Motiv Franziskus beim Empfang der Wundmale zeigt. Vor der Kirche hat eine kleine Olive unsere Aufmerksamkeit errregt. Laut Schild handelt es sich offenbar um ein Friedensbäumchen. 🇬🇧 We then travelled on by bus to our destination for the day, Poggio Bustone. The small mountain village, which is really beautiful, especially in the evening light, is located on the northern edge of the Conca Di Rieti high valley and is surrounded by the Reatine Abruzzo mountains. When we arrived at the church of San Giovanni Battista, it was unfortunately already closed. Inside there is a fresco from the 15th century depicting St Francis receiving the stigmata. In front of the church, a small olive tree caught our attention. 🇩🇪 Etappe 6: Piediluco - Poggio Bustone, öffentliche Verkehrsmittel. Die Geröll- und Schotterwege der letzten Tage hatten meine Füße so zerschunden, dass ich nach Jahren zum ersten Mal wieder eine Blase hatte, eine sehr unangenehme noch dazu. Außerdem gab es eine Windwarnung mit Böen bis zu 120 km/h. Das wollten wir nach dem Erlebnis letztes Jahr dann doch nicht riskieren. Also ging es für uns erstmal ein Stück zurück zu den Cascata delle Marmore, einem von den alten Römern geschaffenen, künstlichen Wasserfall. Als Pilger hat man übrigens freien Eintritt in den Park. Bild 2 zeigt den Wasserfall, bevor die Schleusen geöffnet wurden. 🇬🇧 Stage 6: Piediluco - Poggio Bustone, public transport. The scree and gravel paths of the last few days had left my feet so battered that I had a blister for the first time in years, and it was a very unpleasant one. There was also a wind warning with gusts of up to 120 km/h. After last year's experience, we didn't want to risk it. So we headed back a little way to the Cascata delle Marmore, an artificial waterfall created by the ancient Romans. Incidentally, pilgrims have free entry to the park. 15/03/2023 - Gubbio é uma comuna italiana da da região da Úmbria, província de Perugia com pouco mais de 30.000 habitantes e tem suas origens no auge da civilização da Úmbria, o qual é evidenciado pelo “Tavole Eugubine” que são sete tábuas de bronze escritas na língua da Úmbria e preservaras no Museu Cívico local. Entre as cidades mais antigas da Úmbria, encontra-se muito bem preservado e é rica em monumentos. No alto da cidade encontra-se a Basílica de Sant’Ubaldo, que guarda os restos mortais do padroeiro. Ainda como pontos importantes a serem visitados tem-se Palazzo dei Consolli na Piazza Grande, Palazzo Beni, Palazzo del Bargello, Palazzo del Capitano del Popolo, Palazzo Duvall, alem da Catedral (Século XII), Igreja de São Francisco, Igreja de Santa Maria Nova, a Piazza Quaranta Martiri e muitas outras edificações espalhadas por toda a cidade. Na minha opinião uma comuna para ficar mais de 1 para conhecer. Minha estadia foi no Instituto Maestre Pie Filippini Casa di Ospitalità Scuola Dell Infanzia e fui muito bem atendido, onde pude repousar em quarto com 2 camas e banheiro muito amplo e equipado. O instituto conta ainda com outros quartos, uma cozinha ampla para refeições e logo cedo, fui surpreendido com um pão, com geleias e manteiga que fora gentilmente ofertado pela irmã que me atendeu e acolheu. 🇩🇪 Kaum in Arrone für einen Zwischenstopp angekommen, zog der Himmel wieder zu. Bis nach Piediluco waren dicke, graue Wolken unsere ständigen Begleiter und kaum waren wir im Aufstieg im einzigen Waldstück dieser Etappe, fing es natürlich an zu schütten. Daher auch keine Waldbilder. Ich muss aber gestehen, dass der graue Himmel über der umbrischen Landschaft auch sehr schön anzusehen ist. 🇬🇧 As soon as we arrived in Arrone for a stopover, the sky closed in again. Thick, grey clouds were our constant companions all the way to Piediluco and as soon as we reached the only uphill section of forest on this stage, it naturally started to pour. Beim Frühstück hat es noch geschüttet wie aus Eimern, mit den letzten Regentropfen sind wir dann aufgebrochen und durften die wohl schönste, morgendliche Landschaft der gesamten Südroute bestaunen. 🇩🇪 Nach dem Abstieg ins Neratal ging es größtenteils flach am gleichnamigen Fluss - die Nera ist übrigens der größte Zufluss des Tiber - entlang bis zum Etappenziel Macenano. Auch der Blick vom Tal hoch zu den Bergen hatte seinen Reiz und nach diesem anstrengenden Tag waren wir froh, dass uns in dem kleinen Ort eine gemütliche Unterkunft empfing. Auf dieser Etappe trafen wir außerdem die ersten Mitpilger, die auch auf dem Weg nach Rom waren. Alle anderen Begegnungen waren in entgegengesetzte Richtung nach Assisi unterwegs. 🇬🇧 After the descent into the Nera Valley, the route was mostly flat along the river of the same name - btw, the Nera is the largest tributary of the Tiber - to the stage destination of Macenano. The view from the valley up to the mountains also had its charm and after this strenuous day we were glad to find cosy accommodation in the small town. We also met our first fellow pilgrims on this stage, who were also on their way to Rome. 🇩🇪 Etappe 4: Spoleto - Macenano, ca. 24,5 km. Die Ponte delle Torri ist seit dem Erdbeben von 2016 geschlossen. Für Pilger heißt das, dass der Weg von Spoleto nach Monteluco über Umleitungen führt und natürlich sind wir einmal falsch abgebogen... Endlich wieder auf dem offiziellen Weg, ging es die meiste Zeit bergauf. Aber die Anstrengungen wurden spätestens auf den schmalen Pfaden nach Ceselli mit einer fantastischen Aussicht belohnt. Auch wenn das Wetter nicht so genau wusste, was es wollte... 🇬🇧 Stage 4: Spoleto - Macenano, approx. 24.5 km. The Ponte delle Torri has been closed since the earthquake of 2016. For pilgrims, this means that the route from Spoleto to Monteluco is via detours, and of course we took one wrong turn... Finally back on the official path, it was uphill most of the way. But the efforts were rewarded with a fantastic view on the narrow paths to Ceselli at the latest. 🇩🇪 Zugegeben, die Cattedrale di Santa Maria Assunta, oder auch einfach nur Duomo di Spoleto, hat es mir besonders angetan. Die Kathedrale gilt als italienisches Nationaldenkmal und wurde im letzten Drittel des 12. Jahrhunderts im lombardischen Stil erbaut, erfuhr aber über die Jahrhunderte einige Umgestaltungen. Der Innenraum wurde beispielsweise zwischen dem 17. und 18. Jahrhundert im Barockstil umgebaut. In der Apsis befinden sich der wertvollen Fresken von Filippo Lippi, die die "Geschichten der Jungfrau" darstellen. 🇬🇧 Admittedly, the Cattedrale di Santa Maria Assunta, or simply Duomo di Spoleto, is particularly appealing to me. The cathedral is considered an Italian national monument and was built in the last third of the 12th century in the Lombard style, but underwent several transformations over the centuries. The interior, for example, was rebuilt in the Baroque style between the 17th and 18th centuries. 🇩🇪 Spoleto hat eine wunderschöne Altstadt - etwas anderes erwarte ich mittlerweile auch nicht mehr von Umbrien. Es gibt übrigens öffentliche, kostenlose Rolltreppen. Unsere müden Pilgerfüße waren sehr froh darüber, die Altstadt zieht sich nämlich einen nicht zu verachtenden Hang hinauf. Ganz oben befindet sich die Festung Rocca Albornoziana von 1370. Der Blick auf den Dom Santa Maria Assunta bei Sonnenuntergang ist übrigens auch absolut sehenswert. 🇬🇧 Spoleto has a beautiful old town - I no longer expect anything else from Umbria. By the way, there are free public escalators. Our tired pilgrims' feet were very happy about that, because the old town stretches up a not inconsiderable slope. At the top is the Rocca Albornoziana fortress from 1370. Von der Terrasse unserer Unterkunft in Lenano haben wir einen perfekten Blick auf Campello Alto mit seinem Castello, das um das 10. Jahrhundert auf Wunsch des burgundischen Barons Rovero di Champeaux erbaut wurde. Campello Alto liegt umgeben von Wäldern und Olivenhainen auf etwa 515 Metern Höhe. Bild 2: Campello Alto bei Nacht. Bild 3: Schotter- und Geröllwege waren unsere ständigen Begleiter. Auf dieser Etappe bin ich dann auch auf einem dieser Wegabschnitte hingefallen. Bild 4: Oliven wohin man auch sieht. Bild 5: Wald hatten wir auch, allerdings habe ich keine Fotos von den wild verwucherten, schmalen Pfaden gemacht, da war Konzentration angesagt. 13/03/2023 - Citerna, é uma comuna da região da Úmbria, província de Perugia, e conta com pouco mais de 3.000 habitantes. Esta pequena vila medieval, tem seu nome que segundo alguns autores, deriva da presença de cisternas , distribuídas ao longo das muralhas e que antigamente serviam como reservatórios de água. De lá, avista-se o monte Verna e o Monte Fumaiolo, de onde nasce o Tibre, onde também se avista Sansepolcro. De outro lado, avista-se o vale Cerfone, que leva a Arezzo. No centro histórico, encontramos a Igreja de San Michele Arcangelo, que abriga a obra de arte de 1570 “ Crucificação”, um painel de Nicolò Circignani é uma valiosa terracota representando a Madona com o Menino, da escola de Giovanni Della Robbia. A poucos metros dali, a Igreja de San Francesco (1316), que também guarda obras importantes, mas para o meu azar, na minha passagem, estava fechada. Não deixe de ir no passadiço medieval, que percorre o perímetro das muralhas. No caminho, antes de chegar a Citerna, encontra-se o Monastero del Santo Crossifisso e no Corso Garibaldi o Monastero Santa Elisabetta. Em Citerna carimbei meu passaporte na prefeitura e no Monastero Santa Elisabetta. Die Altstadt liegt auf einem Ausläufer des 1.429 m hohen Monte Serano. Ist es nicht einfach malerisch? 🇩🇪 Ankunft in Foligno. Hier ist es, im Gegensatz zu Spello, weniger touristisch und das, obwohl man in der Altstadt ebenfalls das Gefühl hat, als würde man eine Zeitreise machen. Wir hatten das Glück zur sogenannten Giostra della Quintana anzukommen. Das Ritterturnier selbst haben wir zwar leider verpasst (wir waren zu spät), aber überall hing noch die Deko und abends war es so lebhaft in der Stadt, dass man die Feststimmung trotzdem noch fühlen konnte. Auf dem Foto sieht man die Flaggen zur Quintana und die Rückseite einer Bühne, die vor dem von 1546 bis 1642 erbauten Palazzo Comunale steht. In Foligno sind aber auch die Erdbebenschäden von 2016 teilweise noch deutlich sichtbar, so kann man beispielsweise den Dom bis heute noch nicht wieder betreten. 🇬🇧 Arrival in Foligno. It is, in contrast to Spello, less touristy and that, although in the old town you also feel as if you are travelling back in time. We were lucky enough to arrive for the so-called Giostra della Quintana. Unfortunately, we missed the jousting tournament itself (we were too late), but the decorations were still hanging everywhere and in the evening it was so lively in the city that you could still feel the festive atmosphere. In the photo you can see the flags for the Quintana and the back of a stage in front of the Palazzo Comunale, built from 1546 to 1642. 🇩🇪 Spello zählt zu den "I borghi più belli d’Italia" (Die schönsten Orte Italiens) und das nicht ohne Grund. Es war wirklich schön, durch die schmalen Gassen der Ortschaft zu streifen und weil wir dann doch mal reif für eine Pause waren, haben wir uns im hübschen Hinterhof, der zu einer kleinen Bar gehört, etwas kühles zu trinken und ein Sandwich gegönnt. 🇬🇧 Spello is one of the "I borghi più belli d'Italia" (Italy's most beautiful places) and not without reason. Pian della Capanna, é um refúgio florestal, construída em pedra e madeira no sopé do Alpe della Luna, distante mais ou menos 16km de Pieve Santo Stefano. A estrutura que fica aberta de abril a novembro (podendo abrir nos demais períodos mediante reserva para grupos de no mínimo 10 pessoas), e oferece opções de estadia com meia pensão pensão completa, local para camping e para o peregrino que não pretende pernoitar é uma boa opção para uma boa refeição e descanso. 🇩🇪 Auf der ersten Etappe hatten wir die Wahl zwischen einer Bergtour und einer Alternative mit weniger Höhenmetern durch die Olivenhaine. Da wir uns noch ein bisschen einlaufen wollten und es schon morgens ziemlich warm war, haben wir uns für die Alternativroute entschieden und es absolut nicht bereut. Die Wege waren zum größten Teil unerwartet schattig und der Blick über die Olivenhaine ins Tal war einfach wunderschön. Es steht fest: Ich habe mich in Umbrien verliebt! 🇬🇧 On the first stage, we had the choice between a mountain tour and an alternative with less altitude metres through the olive groves. Since we wanted to slowly get into walking and it was already quite warm in the morning, we opted for the alternative route and absolutely did not regret it. Most of the paths were unexpectedly shady and the view over the olive groves into the valley was simply beautiful. Etwas außerhalb von Assisi, mitten zwischen Feldern und Olivenbäumen, liegen das Kloster und die Kirche San Damiano, die eng mit Franziskus und der Heiligen Klara verbunden sind. Der Überlieferung nach vernahm Franziskus hier 1205 vor dem Kreuz den Auftrag, die Kirche wiederherzustellen. Klara gründete an diesem Ort 1212 den ersten Konvent der Klarissen. Wir haben uns damit begnügt, die Statue des meditierenden Franziskus zu bewundern und seinem Blick ins noch vom Frühnebel verhangene Tal zu folgen. 🇬🇧 Stage 1: Assisi - Foligno, with detour to San Damiano, approx. 21 km. Just outside Assisi, in the middle of fields and olive trees, lie the monastery and church of San Damiano, closely associated with Francis and St. Clare. According to tradition, Francis heard the order to restore the church here in 1205 while kneeling in front of the crucifix. Clare founded the first convent of the Poor Clares on this site in 1212.
