We are ready for small quantity leather scrap pick ups! This Fri, Jan 27th 10am-2pm will be the first of MANY leather scrap pick-ups. For a $25 donation to Upcycle Arts (cash, card, Venmo, CashApp are all accepted), you can take as much leather as you want! The leather is pre-bagged (there is no picking through), into 35-50lb bags. You can take as many bags as you want, but unfortunately there is no ramp for carts, so you will need to have someone to physically carry the bags. Leather pieces are varying sizes and colors. I am overjoyed that we were finally able to meet and work with two other amazing creative reuse centers! @reconsideredgoods in Greensboro and @recraftgvl in Greenville came out to pick up lots of leather scraps from the warehouse project we are working on. It’s so nice to meet people from this community that have been through the same struggles we’ve been through, and seen that they’ve come out the other side. Also, shoutout to @cleveroctopus for touring our space and sharing their creative reuse knowledge as well! One of my personal favorite Upcycle projects. Upcycled candles! I started making these when I lived in Fayetteville and they stopped recycling glass. My favorite candle was made from half of a coconut. What’s your favorite upcycle project? Also, mad respect to literally anyone who works with glass. We had our friend Anna stop by to drop off a donation and do some shopping. She filled up a suitcase full of yarn for only $26! That’s including yarn that’s 100% wool. The evening will feature food trucks and local craft beer, paired with creative crafts from Upcycle Arts and Namaste CLT artists, as well as face painting, pet caricatures and (of course) candy for the kids. The main events are the Boneyard, a costume catwalk (bonus points for homemade costumes) with prizes, short silent movies accompanied by live pianist and an outdoor showing of "Hocus Pocus" after dark. This is a ticketed event with space for 1,000 people. Admission is $10 per person. Kids under 5 are free. What is a creative reuse center? We are! In fact, we’re Charlotte’s first creative reuse center. So what does that mean? We get donations from Charlotte individuals, businesses, and industries of supplies that can be reused in a creative way to make art. Boom! Creative reuse! Our materials include traditional art supplies and nontraditional upcycle materials. How do we redistribute our materials to the community? We do this through our programming and through our creative reuse center retail space. If you are in need of art supplies, you can browse our collection.
