Chapter 11 is online 🐦🔥 and I'd like to thank everyone I had deeply earnest scientific discussions with about the nature of immortal mythological creatures. The first thing I wrote for the story was the list of ingredients for the necromantic potion. So it was clear I needed an immortal ingredient. What about very old trees? (Bristlecones are cool!) What about self-healing components, reptiles being able to shed a limb and grow it back, plants that develop new buds... There was the idea of a hydra that grows even more components after cutting it. The premise was whatever they'd use for the potion, it would certainly not like it. And then I thought, but what if it liked it? And immediately the creature had a conscience, a masochistic kink, and because I always loved phoenixes, it became a phoenix. And his voice is that of Tim Curry, because "Sweet Transvestite" is the energy I'd like him to have. And he will return because he's a phoenix and i love him. Chapter 9 is online 🦎 Gomez finds out a little more about the Praying Mantis and is left in distress. Meanwhile Morticia is confronted with Balthazar’s family history, the academic world of Necromancy, and the wrath of a parent witch. I wrote Balthazar's diary entries and Despi's story about Pythia as background infos for myself. Then I noticed that these parts are probably the ones that feel the most like my own story. I already have a million ideas what to do with the family characters I made up myself. I did not know Ophelia from the Show, so the way I wrote her is all based on my bullshit. She is fun to write and I'll definitely use her for other stuff in the future. The official Ophelia was a missed opportunity in the 90s movies. I'm still into the Addams Family because their original idea was to have a nonconformist alternative family to the way American conservative core families were depicted (also meaning that their own loving depiction was already the alternative, no matter how ooky they were otherwise). This is a thing that can always be updated. The script of movie from '93 suggests that Ophelia could have come to the wedding with a trans woman as her partner. It was cut from the movie, but you can still see them when Wednesday catches the bouquet. It was all very cliché in the script, but it was also the early 90s. The Addamses would totally be inclusive and welcoming to all sides of the spectrum and it would have been nice to see that 30 years ago. All the more important to include such characters now. Desperata and Pythia are creations of my own. They started off as blank spaces to send Gomez into his adventure, and accidentally developed own backstories, like the necromantic academic witches that they are. I imagine Pythia as Octavia Spencer. And because I watched American Horror Story Coven too devotedly, Angela Bassett became Desperata. Untie is a nonbinary form for aunt/uncle. Tully has a guest appearance as the bartender. As the only normie in this story, it was fun to have him as the Odd man out, and the only one who might be somewhat unsettled by deathly curses and eyeballs in cocktails.
