Happy #ThunderThursday! It is always great when you can celebrate with new #ThunderCats figures, and the new ULTIMATES! series 8 arrived from @Super7 a few days ago. I am very happy with #Hachiman as he was my most-anticipated figure of the wave, but the others are quite good, too. #CaptainShiner is a nice surprise, as he was a bit under the radar for me, but he has lots of personality. Adding the swappable folded arms is a nice touch, and when is posed that way, you can just hear him judging you. I have never been the biggest #Lunataks fan, but getting #Alluro to kick them off is a great thing as they have never had figures. Very happy for those who have been waiting on them, and it will be cool to get the entire group together at some point. But just remember: the Mutants will ALWAYS be better! #WilyKit adds another core cat to the #Super7 stable, and even though I have the previous #Mattel figure, I like this one quite a lot, too. The winking portrait is a great touch, and I like the overall size of this figure better, too. Plus, this looks more like Kit to me for most of the series, while the previous version reminds me more of those first few episodes of the show. Both are good, so it will depend on your preference. Or be like me and need them both. I don’t know many who were shouting for a new Ant-Man figure, but I am stoked this exists. I really like the design of this suit. The new chest detail, added silver piping, and red accents are cool details that make this figure more interesting to look at under different lighting conditions. The helmet has this cool mix of metallic sheen and carbon fiber texturing. Furthermore, the varied textures are crisply sculpted and feel nice to touch throughout this figure. In a medium that is very tactile, it is rare that I pick up a figure and focus on how explicitly enjoyable it is to touch and appreciate the sculpted textures. Who would have thought Ant-Man would be one of the most fun figures to just feel. I also love the articulation on this figure! He is able to hit some fun poses due to some great head, neck, arm, torso, ab, and hip movement. Plus, the ankles aren’t hindered by the boot cuffs since they are separate floating pieces. They are secure so they don’t feel fiddly, but they get out of the way without compromising looks. While some of these poses aren’t the most agile, my off-screen play has been amped up by how much movement is packed into the figure. It’s perfect all around, and I have no notes. The extra hands are great and the “ooze translator” is highly detailed, but the unmasked head is a miss for me. Some SHF prints have been pretty fuzzy lately, and Scott suffers from this big time. Some angles are better than others, but I don’t plan on using anything other than the cool helmeted head with printed eyes that don’t seem as bad (although they are a bit fuzzy too). If you don’t have an Ant-Man on your shelf, do yourself a favor and pick this guy up. 2024 Mattel Jurassic World Chaos Theory “Wild Roar” Majungasaurus “Major” The Majungasaurus from 2020’s Primal Attack was not only one of my favorites from that line, but one of my favorite figures from Mattel. So, when news broke that a new Majungasaurus was releasing for 2024, I was super excited! But, I was in for a Major surprise! (Sorry, I couldn’t resist!) As it turns out, this new Majungasaurus is part of the Chaos Theory lineup. Not only that, but it’s an actual named character! At the time of this writing, Chaos Theory has yet to premiere. As such, the role “Major” plays in the story is unknown. Therefore, I cannot form an opinion on how accurate the figure is to the character. All I can do is judge it like I would any other figure. That being said, this Majungasaurus is destined to be a fan favorite! First of all, this new Majungasaurus sculpt shares absolutely nothing with the original. They’re not even aesthetically close in the slightest. When I first saw photos of this new version online, I thought it looked inferior to the older version. Having it in hand, it’s safe to say my opinion has changed. This is a beautifully sculpted figure. I do feel that the original is still a slightly more scientifically accurate Majungasaurus, but this one is a more canonically accurate representation, and just feels more like a Jurassic universe Majunga. The head has excellent scale detail throughout. Most of the scalation is a pebbled texture, but there are larger scales towards the rear of the lower jaw. There are a few tiny osteoderms around the cheek area as well. There is a patch of larger bumps on the snout. One change from the original sculpt, which is actually more scientifically accurate in Major, is the inclusion of the single horn on the head. The older sculpt just had an odd crest-like bump in that area. The teeth are another massive improvement. The older figure had some particularly blunt teeth. Mattel has since swapped to inserts for teeth, allowing for a softer material to be used, and for the teeth to look much sharper than they actually are. (Continues in the Comments)
