Decided to fix an issue that wasn’t too, too bad, but was annoying me. Since the spring @old_man_emu_suspensions upgrade, the trailing arms were pinching the chassis bushings down slightly. I sourced some new to me cranked heavy duty arms and installed them. The HD arms are easily twice the weight of the original ones I removed. The arms now sit flat and no more pinching at the bushing on the frame. #landroverdefender110 #tithonusdefenders

Because I am a glutton for punishment, I have decided that for full roll up doors, my choice is a pair of lift up, roll up doors with the 85-86 lock mechanism. Talk about hard to find parts, tightening 😱. All jokes aside, the lock mechanisms work just need cleaning and new springs and the windows roll up beautifully after aligning and greasing. I enlisted the kiddo to help with paint matching and that will be our project for the next few weeks. Waiting for some missing seals to arrive in the mail and searching for the correct door cards. All in all, saved a bunch of money and now we have these period correct doors for the Tithonus. I wonder how many Tithonus 110s came with full solid doors if any. Main reasoning for the switch is mostly for winter driving and to make it easier for the kiddo to lock, unlock and open the door. Haven’t posted in a bit. Daily driving it. Enjoying the visceral ride. No plush anything. Just right. Upgrades done in the past few months. New #314 injectors for the OM617 motor(still getting around 38mpg average so no complains), new long runner intake welded and sealed right, Galvanized and tried tree sliders, deep sump on the transfer case (swapped from the 1.61 ratio to a taller 1.41 which is great on the highway now with the military geared LT77 transmission) new headlight harness as well as the ugly welded light mounts for the fogs(wide-40 pattern for more spread and projection in deep laminx yellow). I never said I was a welder, but once I dress them up with a grinder they will great. We took it for a spin and for, erm, coffee *snigger* 😆 on the way back to HQ. Having stumbled across some non-perishable genuine parts that have languished unused in someone's shed since the 90s, I snapped them up rather than buying OEM, and have started stripping the front end to fit them 👍 There will be more fettling of course, I've been making extended hoses ready to accommodate the new radiator and intercooler, due to the engine conversion nothing in the front end fits, same goes for the new PAS hoses. But wouldn't life be boring if it was simple? New fuel pump and crankcase breather filter hose on the 110, and new batteries for the 101. That's another leak sorted on the 110 👍 If you have a leaky fuel pump, or a lift pump related fuelling issue on a 300tdi, take a look at my previous post about the subject. After waiting far too long for extra gaskets to arrive, I bought some gasket paper off Amazon and made the correct thickness, sealing with a smear RTV sealant. The pump is a Delphi one, I highly recommend the brand. Delayed parts deliveries and unexpected sunshine has given me the opportunity to finally get around to some jobs on the L322. This happened while laning, someone left a gate post in a hedge, which I thought was rather inconsiderate 😄 It was surprisingly easy, which I've just realised isn't the case when it comes to accessing the screenwash reservoir/pump etc on the hippo. I'd never given its location any thought, I've had many hippos but never had a problem with it, turns out I need to remove the front bumper! Another unusual problem I've encountered today is the fabulous fit of the doors on the 101. I was trying to run a battery conditioner from the cab. Let's talk about fuel pumps⛽️ This is my next job on the 110 300tdi. I always use Delphi, they have a filter that needs to be cleaned every now and again. For some reason, Land Rover decided that the fuel would pass through the pump before the main filter, which is probably one of many reasons why these fail, many cheaper versions don't have a filter, as is not cleaning the filter if you have one. Mine hasn't failed but has a slight leak, which could be explained by how it was fitted, which was with a simple 1mm gasket between it and the block. The pump comes supllied with a gasket, no surprise there. But there are two main schools of thought about how to fit them: 1) fit with only the gasket 2) fit with an aftermarket spacer and gasket either side But the best option is option 3) fit with three gaskets. I only have the one that came with the pump, and I can't find my gasket paper, so I'll wait until I get some more. The reason for this adjustment is the shape of and, therefore, the stroke of the cam that operates the fuel pump. The maximum stroke needed is 3.3mm but the max lift on the cam is 5.9mm, this means we need an adjustment of 2.6mm for optimal fuel pump operation. Leak update ⚠️ After a considerable cleanup yesterday, I was correct and there is a slight weep on the lift pump. No major issue there, they're easy enough to change, inexpensive, and I have one in my parts box. What I was hoping wasn't leaking, but really knew deep down was, (I was just doing that thing Landy owners do, live in denial while we deal with other leaky stuff) is the crank seal. To change it I'll need to take the fan and cowl off, the aux belt (and replace) and pullies, then the timing belt (and replace) and a couple more pullies. I may, she says may while praying to the Landy gods, get away without removing the radiator. Being a 300tdi conversion, there is a lot of space at the front of the engine, so we'll cross that potential bridge when we're spanners deep and swearing about lack of access space...or not, hopefully 🤞🏼 I might try and do a video about it, if not I'll revert to my preferred method of communication and write a how to. There are some great guides out there, but there are many that miss some really important tips, which could account for why it appears to be such a common problem. Some OEM parts, such as the pulley that sits on the seal, can be the cause of the leak in themselves, and people then wonder why they're re-doing the job not all that long after they've gone to a lot of effort to replace it. It's a filthy job, but someone's gotta do it 😮💨 The 110, being a Land Rover, had several leaks when i bought it. I fully expected this of course, and it was bought as a project so I was fully prepared for, well, pretty much anything, but it's in generally good order, just a bit drippy. I've resolved some of them, working top down on the engine cleaning as I went, attending to an obviously leaky swivel, transfer box, and diff, but I think I may have an engine oil leak, possibly from the sump pan. I'm not 100% convinced the lift pump isn't weeping, I have one in the parts box if I end up needing it. Tbh for £35, I may as well just change it. It was quite relaxing having a lie down under there, listening to the trickle of 10w40 😆 Oils look in good condition, but I didn't get everything I had planned done. One thing is guaranteed when you own multiple Landies, people will stop to chat. This inevitably leads to a tour of each vehicle and at least an hour of talking cars, the wonderful adventures they take us on, and the stories they give us to share. Even non-Landy people have sentimental memories of the brand. The same goes when people call over to buy parts, which several did today. These fuses have been around longer than I have. I'm not a big fan of electrics, I much prefer spanners, but this week I've been doing an awful lot. The Tithonus now has three switched 12v sockets, I'll do the same in the 101 soon. There are a plethora of CCTV cameras around my property and in each vehicle, and a number of other electrical accessories and safety/security devices installed. I've also tended to some connections that weren't the best. We've been on another Landy buying trip! But this time for parts rather than another vehicle. Earholes the Landy Dog joined me on a trip to Derby to pick up a bonnet, new entertainment system screen, and a cup holder (mine disintegrated unexpectedly) for the L322. We picked them up in the 110, the bonnet only just fit! And they'll be stored in the 101 until I get time to fit them. It's very handy having so many Landies, I now have one for every occasion 😃 We came back to a stack of deliveries for the 110 and 101. Has driven some serious mileage in Chapper and have enjoyed every minute 😀 After our explorations in Central Scotland and the Borders, today we headed south through England to pick up some Series seats, then came back to show a friend around the fleet, fix a few little niggles, and back out for a drive through Shropshire. Next up we're heading east to pick up some Range Rover parts. There are also some 101 parts winging their way to Archie, some fab militaria buys en route, and 5ltrs of @lanoguard waiting for me to get working on winter prep.
