Such a strange time trial today. Huge waves at South Head. Three metres on our first run around and two metres on our second or return lap of South Head. A really great morning session. Possibly we could have gone further out the Heads but it was so bloody good. 12.63km in 1hour and 18 minutes. Which included a coupla rest stops AND a few runners. Next week I think we shall have a system sorted so that if you’re returning from injury or you’re ‘getting long in the tooth’ you’ll be sorted and fine and the whole squad can stick together. Come join us 6am tue and Thursday mornings. There is also a 5:45 or 5:50am (I can never figure it out) for those who need to get off the water a bit earlier. And for the paddlers requiring really lotsa recuperation there is a 6:15am group

A TALE OF TWO TRAINING SESSIONS... PART TWO OF TWO the soft and the HARD... people love a contrast. We didn’t go out the Heads Thursday morning.. perhaps we should have it was a really light westerly, ... more southerly. But changing it up is important. The thing about this route is that slower paddlers can cut corners to keep up with the gang...so as winter’s winds creep closer - now is the time to come hang with us (tue and Thursday morning at 6am on the water from WSC Rose Bay) as you can stay with the group as we go around the bays in Westerly and southerly winds. The bit I like about this course is running along side the Naval base at Garden Island we do easy - sprint - easy - sprint between the exclusion zone buoys (we don’t go in see!!!) for a kilometre or two. ITS HARD AND GOOD WITH THE SHARK ISLAND PADDLERS

With only his loneliness clutched to his heart to keep him warm. ITS TIME TO SAY A FEW WORDS about the brave hardy souls who volunteer to do the timing at not only prestigious SHARK ISLAND PADDLERS EVENTS, but all community based events. They’re just bloody ACE AND WE COULD NOT DO WITHOUT THEM. Sure some of them go home to their small HUMBLE flats proud of their service with THE SHARK ISLAND PADDLERS... but most just toil and serve without the most basic of rewards. Next year we should change this and give free beer and sausage rolls AND sauce to all our SIP volunteers. Let the campaign start now!!! Surely el presidente could only but agree...!! PERHAPS he will merely nod and say “mate they just like numbers”... I dispute that.
