We're commemorating Rye Day the 13th with a 'Walk the Plank', a cocktail found at many Disney locations. This is Disney's take on the Eastern Whiskey Sour, a Trader Vic recipe that tiki-fies the classic Whiskey Sour. Today is James Buchanan "Bucky" Barnes' birthday! To mark the occasion, I've come up with a Brooklyn Buck variation. A Buck cocktail is similar to a Mule made with ginger ale instead of ginger beer. A Brooklyn cocktail is made with Whiskey (usually Rye) and Maraschino liqueur. So I used a Cherry bourbon, fresh lime juice, Angostura bitters and ginger ale. And I find it more interesting than the cliche Poisoned Apple cocktail. This is a riff on a Daiquiri adding pineapple juice and aquafaba (for the froth instead of an egg white) ... a rummy but tasty little drink befitting a Princess. But it was challenging to find the balance. So I visited Nomad Lounge a couple of weeks ago to try it again -- and hopefully speak with a bartender. And here it is ... 2 oz bourbon 3/4 oz tamarind syrup 1/2 oz lime juice 1/4 oz allspice dram Add all the ingredients to a shaker / Add ice / Shake for 10 seconds / Dump the contents of the shaker, ice and all, into a double rocks glass / Add more ice if needed / Garnish with a lime peel. The Ward Eight calls for Rye whiskey, orange juice, lemon juice and grenadine. The Rye Not? substitutes pineapple for orange and cinnamon syrup for the grenadine. So tonight I made a 'Purple Mariner' from the Ale & Compass Lounge at Disney's Yacht Club Resort using some Hendrick's Gin given to me by my SIL. Along with the gin, there's Creme de Violette, simple syrup, lemon juice and topped with club soda. DM me for the recipe.
