Harry Partch - 17 Lyrics of Li Po Harry Partch (1901-1974) was an American composer, musical theorist and creator of musical instruments. He even went to the extreme of dividing a scale that broke up an octave into 43 unequal intervals, which is far removed from the western tradition of 12 equally separated tones. The pieces here were composed between 1931 and 1933 and is scored for Partch's adapted viola and intoning voice, using English translated texts from the 8th Century Chinese poet, Li Po. Performed by Stephen Kalm - Intoning Voice Ted Mook - Tenor Violin The music is reminiscent of a stripped down operatic performance of just one voice and one stringed instrument that resembles the sound of a cello. The 17 tracks take up over 36 minutes with most of them landing between 1 and 3 minutes each.
