The Cat’s Eye Nebula (also known as NGC 6543 and Caldwell 6) is a planetary nebula in the northern constellation of Draco, discovered by William Herschel on February 15, 1786. It was the first planetary nebula whose spectrum was investigated by the English amateur astronomer William Huggins, demonstrating that planetary nebulae were gaseous and not stellar in nature. Structurally, the object has had high-resolution images by the Hubble Space Telescope revealing knots, jets, bubbles and complex arcs, being illuminated by the central hot planetary nebula nucleus (PNN). The supernova mentioned is SN 2024exw and was discovered on the 24th of march this year, do expect it to be visible until about August. M98, the main subject in the picture is a spiral galaxy ~44.4million light years away. It’s near the bright star Beta Leonis and was discovered in 1781 by a French astronomer, Charles Messier included it in the catalog 29 days after its discovery. 10. May 2024 • what an unbelievable night! Right after the sundown the first northern lights got visible in the still illuminated sky. Shortly after 10pm the aurora exploded in red beamers all over the horizon and later directly over us. Later all kinds of colours were visible! KP 9, a Bz around -45 and super high density brought us this crazy aurora borealis. #Canon #Canon1100D #1100D #CanonRebelT3 #RebelT3 #CanonPhotography #Astrophotography #Telephoto #Canon75300mm #Nebula #Nebulosa #NebulosaOrion #NebulosaDeOrion #DeMairan #Mairan #M42 #M43 #Messier42 #Messier43 #Nebulae #Orion #OrionNebula #DeepSpace #DeepSky #NightSky #NightSkyPhotography #SkyLovers #Space #SpacePhotography #SpacePhotographyNight

NGC 4631 (also known as the Whale Galaxy or Caldwell 32) is a barred spiral galaxy in the constellation Canes Venatici about 30 million light years away from Earth. This galaxy’s slightly distorted wedge shape gives it the appearance of a herring or a whale, hence its nickname. Because this nearby galaxy is seen edge-on from Earth, professional astronomers observe this galaxy to better understand the gas and stars located outside the plane of the galaxy. The Owl Nebula (also known as Messier 97, M97 or NGC 3587) is a planetary nebula approximately 2,030 light years away in the constellation Ursa Ursa Major. Estimated to be about 8,000 years old, it is approximately circular in cross-section with a faint internal structure. It was formed from the outflow of material from the stellar wind of the central star as it evolved along the asymptotic giant branch. The nebula is arranged in three concentric shells, with the outermost shell being about 20-30% larger than the inner shell. The owl-like appearance of the nebula is the result of an inner shell that is not circularly symmetric, but instead forms a barrel-like structure aligned at an angle of 45° to the line of sight. Astronomers Measure Heaviest Black Hole Pair Ever Found. 💫🕳️ Data from Gemini North provide possible explanation for supermassive binary black hole’s halted merger. 💫💫 Using archival data from the Gemini North telescope, a team of astronomers have measured the heaviest pair of supermassive black holes ever found. The merging of two supermassive black holes is a phenomenon that has long been predicted, though never observed. This massive pair gives clues as to why such an event seems so unlikely in the Universe. Aurora? UFOs? Aliens? What could this be? Credit: @astrofalls Author: So often I’m asked if I ever see anything weird in the night sky while I’m taking photos. The answer is certainly yes, but what I also tell people is that what you believe to be “aliens” or “weird lights” often has an interesting explanation based in reality that you simply don’t understand at the moment. By making observations and thinking critically you can get to the bottom of any situation. Two nights ago during our Joshua tree workshop we experienced a weird phenomena. Off in the northern horizon we noticed some very strange lights. They appeared to be just like an aurora. So I got my camera out and made a series of observations to try and learn more. And based on the photos I took I learned the nature of the lights we saw. Here I have included the photos I took. What do you think they are? What caused them? The photos and timelapse posted provide the entire explanation. One hint is that this was captured from the palm canyon road in Kofa wildlife refuge in Arizona. The Helix Nebula 🧬✨ Here are a few images of the Helix Nebula, aka the eye nebula. Which one is your favorite? The Helix Nebula is a planetary nebula. Planetary nebulae are beautiful and intricate structures formed during the late stages of a star’s life, typically when stars like our Sun reach the end of their evolution. Despite their name, they have nothing to do with planets. The term “planetary” was coined by early astronomers who thought these nebulae resembled the disk of a planet when viewed through telescopes. Hello friends, things have been a bit busy at the McDaniel household the last few weeks but I have an incredible image I want to share with you. Let's go on a journey 12 million light-years into space where we visit the the Cigar Galaxy, also known as Messier 82. Located in the constellation Ursa Major, the Cigar Galaxy, interacting with it's neighbor M81, shines so brightly because of all the new stars forming within it. Around the core of M82, young stars are born 10 times faster than within our entire Milky Way Galaxy. NGC 7380 is a young open cluster of stars in the northern circumpolar constellation of Cepheus, discovered by Caroline Herschel in 1787. The surrounding emission nebulosity is known colloquially as the Wizard Nebula, which spans an angle of 25‘. German-born astronomer William Herschel included his sister’s discovery in his catalog, and labelled it H VIII.77. The nebula is known as S 142 in the 1959 Sharpless catalog (Sh2-142). It is extremely difficult to observe visually, usually requiring very dark skies and an O-Ill filter. The NGC 7380 complex is located at a distance of approximately 8.5 kilolight-years from the Sun, in the Perseus Arm of the Milky Way. ❗️Ive made a mistake in the processing of the picture, this is a better and updated version Only SHO (Hubble), no RGB NGC 2174 (also known as Monkey Head Nebula) is an H || emission nebula located in the constellation Orion and is associated with the open star cluster NGC 2175. It is thought to be located about 6,400 light-years away from Earth. The nebula may have formed through hierarchical collapse. Glowing gas and dark dust do not survive well in the Monkey Head Nebula. Young stars near the center of the nebula generate stellar winds and high energy radiation that causes the nebula’s material to shift into complex shapes. The nebula is primarily composed of hydrogen which glows at infrared wavelengths due to the radiation. 60 x 600s 22-На 22-0111 16-SlI Total: 10h Masterbias (100 Bias) Masterflat (60 Flats/Filter) No Darks ————————— Softwares: Astropixelprocessor StarnetV2 Astrosharp Photoshop ————————— Gear: -Telescope: Skywatcher 250P -Mount: Skywatcher EQ6-RPro -Camera: ZWO ASI 1600MM pro -Guiding: ZWO ASI 120MM mini with ZWO OAG -Further equipment: ZWO ASIAIR mini ZWO EAF ZWO EFW 7x36mm ZWO LRBG & SHO 36mm filters dew cap (DIY) Artesky 2“ Twist lock TS-optics 0.95x Comacorrector TS 2nd mirror heater ————————— Other details: Camera details: 139 SHO 4/3“CMOS sensor 4656x3520-16Mega pixels 17.8mm x 13.38mm Captured during: 1/19/2023 Bortle class 4 Restrictions/problems: - Last mirrors collimation: 19/1/2024 Done with a Noctutec OCAL V3.0 Moonphase: 0,69 increasing FOV: 1º4.41‘ x 48.42‘, 0,8253“ /pixel F ratio: F3,75 Dawes limit: 0,46 arc/sec Target pos: Ra/Dec (J2000); 06h 09m 43.35, +20° 29‘ 59.2“ Text information sources: Stellarium ————————— Hashtags: #zwo #zwoasi #zwoasi1600mmpro #deepskyphotography #deepsky #astrophotography #skywatcher #skywatcheraustraila #skywatchertelescop #nebula #galaxy #space #interstellarcloud #kosmos #beautiful #darknebula #spacepictures #spacephotographynight #emissionn ebula ————————— Products from companies: @sky_watcher_official @zwoasi ————————— Dropbox: https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fo/3oc1zoqylgamb5uelcqjv/h?rlkey=c7nwx48jcpg1heo9s9qtoy758&dl=0 This goes under Copyright

(⚠️Only Ha and Olll, No RBG) Westerhout 5 (Sharpless 2-199, LBN 667, Soul Nebula) is an emission nebula located in Cassiopeia. Several small open clusters are embedded in the nebula: CR 34, 632, and 634 (in the head) and IC 1848 (in the body). The object is more commonly called by the cluster designation IC 1848. Small emission nebula IC 1871 is present just left of the top of the head, and small emission nebulae 670 and 669 are just below the lower back area. The galaxies Maffei 1 and Maffei 2 are both nearby the nebula, although light extinction from the Milky Way makes them very hard to see. Once thought to be part of the Local Group, they are now known to belong to their own group- the IC 342/Maffei Group. This complex is the eastern neighbor of IC1805 (Heart Nebula) and the two are often mentioned together as the „Heart and Soul“. 96 x 300s Total: 8h Masterbias (200 Bias) Masterflat (200Flats) No Darks ———————————— Softwares: Astropixelprocessor StarnetV2 Astrosharp Photoshop ———————————— Gear: -Telescope: Skywatcher 250P -Mount: Skywatcher EQ6-RPro -Camera: ZWO ASI 533MC pro -Guiding: ZWO ASI 120MM mini with ZWO OAG -Further equipment: ZWO ASIAIR mini ZWO EAF dew cap (DIY) Optolong L-eXtreme 1,25“ Artesky 2“ Twist lock TS-optics 0.95x Comacorrector TS 2nd mirror heater ———————————— Other details: Camera details: Gain 140, Cooled to -30°C/-22F, 3008x3008pixels Sony IMX533 Sensor (11.3mmx11.3mm) Captured during: 12/28-29/2023 Bortle class 4 Restrictions/problems: clouds towards the end, Fullmoon Last mirrors collimation: 12/26/2023 Done with a Noctutec OCAL V3.0 Moonphase: 0,99 decreasing FOV: 0,65° x 0,65° / 0,78“ x 0,78“ /pixel F ratio: F3,75 Dawes limit: 0,46 arc/sec Target pos: Ra/Dec; 02h 52m 59. 3s +60° 30‘ 45.2“ Text information sources: Stellarium ———————————— Hashtags: #zwo #zwoasi #zwoasi533mcpro #deepskyphotography #deepsky #astrophotography #skywatcher #skywatcheraustraila #skywatchertelescop #omegon #nebula #galaxy #space #interstellarcloud #kosmos #beautiful #darknebula #spacepictures #spacephotographynight #emissionnebula ———————————— Products from companies: @sky_watcher_official @zwoasi @optolongfilter

The Heart Nebula is only 7500 light years away from Earth. It's radius is a mere 165 light years (sarcasm if you weren't picking that up...it's big). In the middle of the nebula is a famous open cluster of stars called Melotte. The nebula is formed by plasma of ionized hydrogen and freed up electrons. Normally it appears as a red emission nebula, but its structure is often best seen using the Hubble Palette. To create the Hubble Palette three different narrowband filters are used, Sulfur (SII), Hydrogen alpha (Ha), and Oxygen (OIII). Each narrowband filter isolates a specific part of the spectrum. When assigned different colors they can be combined to create a colorful photo showing the detailed structures of some deep space objects, like the Heart Nebula. This photo is the combination of about 20 hours of photos taken through a telescope. The photos ranged from 3 min to 10 minutes each. A couple of hundred photos were stacked to highlight the detail of the gas structure. Pixinsight, an astrophotography program, was used to create the Hubble Palette and to edit the photo. It's been a labor of love. :) #heartnebula #astrophotography #astrophotographyworld #astrophotography_space #deepspace #deepspacephotography #williamoptics #williamopticsgt81 #stars #spacephoto #spacephotos #spacephotography #spacephotographyedits #spacephotographynight #milkyway #milkywaygalaxy #milkywaychasers #milkywayphotography #milkywaypics #milkywayshooters https://leonardbeckphotography.smugmug.com/The-Night-Sky/i-LDZn6V6/A
