We walked around a labyrinth, dusted with snow, our path uncertain. So we each found our own way, and each made a new trail. Improvising. Because life is like that sometimes. We witnessed each other's journey through this small, ancient ritual. Each setting silent intentions, gathering light from the heart of darkness to bring back to the world. It felt hopeful and lifted my heart to gather and light a candle on the near to longest night of the year. To hold onto that light in the darkness and to share it with others and make our light grow brighter together. I don't have the answer for the hurts of the world. It feels like too small of a thing to light a candle for the pain and suffering happening. Genocide, slavery, child labor, looming climate disaster. But taking a moment to light a candle for hope and showing up to it again and again, courageously, feels essential. To nourish that light when and where we find it. To share light in the darkness is essential.
