My January was packed with watercolor sketches as I taught a four-week demo-based "Sketching with Watercolor" course online. I had tons of fun leading this wonderful group of committed painters in weekly video conference sessions, and I look forward to having several of them back in a few days for "Sketching with Gouache." 😊 (It starts Thursday, February 01, and there's actually still time to sign up under "workshops" over on my website.) Our final watercolor session was last week, and we spent most of it painting the Brontë parsonage at Haworth in Yorkshire. Alex and I had the opportunity to spend a day here when we were living in England in 2019-2020, and it was a pivotal experience for me. For those who don't know, every year there is an inktober drawing challenge with pre-made themes (promps) for each day, during the whole october. So every day you draw one picture with the ink. This is my very first attempt at painting a complete image, with gouache… with loads of details! What a learning experience! It is the project for a Domestika course, with @emmablockillustration . 😊🎨 . I must confess it tired me out!! Though I did love the result, it took me much longer to complete than if I had done it with watercolor. OK: lesson learned! . On the upside: I did enjoy the challenge, and also the fact that i can still draw over the gouache to work on the smaller details, like the branches and flowers here, and adding finishing touches with color pencils was fun! OK: tough, but done!! Yay!
