This is a large 12x14in display frame with a 44in W. Diamondback rattler (w/ glass, just not in photos). I start all my work with raw materials, I originally started this skeleton for cleaning over a year ago! Months of processing wait time, then time spent articulating and gluing the skeleton, then time planning and building the display up. Total hands-on work time for this single piece? Over 23hrs. Not including time spent on many other things that come with the work, such as material cleaning (there is zero plastic or fake, every bit has been collected from nature, by me, and cleaned), plus time cleaning up the messes & more. Stillborn Capybara Twins - What an honor to work on such a special project, these two special babes will be remembered forever. Being they're so delicate, I opted to clean them via oxidation method, which is essentially all manual hand cleaning. From the start of prepping to finished articulation, I clocked in a whopping 87hours total hands on work to complete this project. This is a Guinea Pig called Razorback that I'm cleaning up for someone. My dermestid beetle colony has gotten absolutely crazy! I put this entire carcass in last night, skinned and gutted, and this morning it is almost completely finished! If I had been doing it with cold water maceration still it would have taken anywhere from a couple of weeks to a month. Now the issue is keeping them fed... Azure Kingfisher (Alcedo azurea) all finished. I originally intended to just clean the skull of this one because it was too small to macerate. But thankfully I kept it's body in the freezer, because now that I have my dermestid beetles I can finally clean up much smaller birds. Yuck... Having to go through the goop to dig out all the bones and clean each one individually is by far the worst part of the process. Next, they go into a solution of cloudy ammonia and water which gets changed regularly until all the grease has seeped out of the bones. This can take anywhere from a few weeks to a year. On average, I generally degrease for a couple of months. Most people are cool with bones and pretty white skeletons, but there's a lot more to us (living creatures) than that! I've started practicing dry preservation more, and here are the first two hearts I did. I have 2 more ready to come out for drying as well. The first is a bi-sected domestic cat heart, big tabby was a feral who didn't make it, the other being a rooster heart.
