Disappeared from the internet for a hot second because I got depressed. I’m still depressed, but I’m trying to make myself get back out there. I make these posts and it feels pointless. Who’s out here acting reading these? Idk, but some time ago, I made this plate of chicken teriyaki and ate it. Some time ago, I wrote a song and I played it. I make stuff and as long as it’s useful to someone, it reminds me that I actually exist #folk #folkrock #acoustic #acousticguitar #singersongwriter #boston #massachusetts #indiemusic #independenttunes #indiefolk #sadfolkforsadfolk #newengland #bostonmusic #newenglandmusic #prateekmusic #okayatguitar #americana #thecoolestloseryouknow #greaterboston

#throwback to that one time where one of my songs ended up in #wordle (this is not today’s wordle, in case that wasn’t clear)
I’ve been saying quite a bit about how I can’t stand social media and done very little about it - until now! I’ve created a @discord server because 1) I’m a nerd and discord is for nerds and 2) because these servers are actually a space where I can hang out with all of you rather than just shout into an algorithm-driven void and hope you’ll hear me. If you like the idea of hanging out rather than doomscrolling, join at the link in my bio and let’s talk about video-games and pets ✌🏽
Now that I’ve captured your attention with a bad pun, you should know that it’s #bandcampfriday ! Buying my music today means 1) I get more moolah than I would otherwise and 2) I can pay my utility bill! The link is in my bio as usual
As a musician, I’m supposed to post something on social media talking about all the cool music stuff I did in 2023 and concluding with “Onwards and upwards!” or something like that. Truth is that I don’t feel much like a musician anymore. So I guess I’ll try to sum up what my 2023 was like as just myself. In 2023, I released a proper studio album, the kind of studio album I’d always wanted to release. The band on it rocks, and folks, and smolders, and does all kinds of cool things. I feel like a really lucky guy to have made something with them. There’s a link in my bio if you’re interested in listening. I also completed a six-month coding bootcamp. I’ve never been much good at being only a full-time musician for a living, so I set out to learn a set of skills that might grant me at least a part-time day job. And I am happy to report that I have, for the moment, a part time day job. It’s boring and technical, but it’s something. And I don’t even have to leave the house, which is nice. I don’t know what the future holds as far as this whole music thing goes. I’m going to keep writing songs and playing shows here and there, but the time for national tours and opening for my favorite musicians might be at an end - at least for a while. Or unless @john_hiatt_music asks me to open for him. Whatever direction this goes, I’m just glad to know all of you. Thank you for listening to my music in 2023. I hope 2024 is a good year for all of us. 📷 by @stephaniehouten
“Boston singer-songwriter Prateek blends strands of blues and country music together to create a vibe which is indelibly his own. Some songs, such as “The Gang’s All Gone” and “No Fun” present contrasting pictures… that help the album tie a larger story, one of loneliness and isolation, that hits its apex with the song “Wrong.” Big thanks to @worcestermagazine for these lind words and for including “‘Til June” in their favorite albums of 2023! Scroll to see me trying not to lose my shit because I’m standing next to @markerelli (I’m cool I swear)
Hey folks! A few things: The bad news: this Saturday's upcoming show at The Fallout Shelter is, unfortunately, canceled. But we're working to reschedule for the fall! The good news: I'm gonna be on 91.9 WUMB TODAY AT NOON to play some songs and talk about life and music! It'll be a good time. Tune in via radio or online!
"Many current artists take elements from defined genres and meld them together into blended sounds. Less common is an act like Boston singer-songwriter Prateek. On his first full-length studio album ’Til June... he demonstrates his love and command of the breadth of Americana music by putting together a collection where nearly every track is a prime example of a different aspect of American roots music. Not since Mark Joseph’s 2021 release "Vegas Motel" have I been this surprised and charmed by every twist and turn of an album." Honored by this rave review of "'Til June" from @adventuresinamericana ! Check out the full review on their site, and stream/buy "'Til June" from the link in my bio. 📷 by @jonilohrphotography
Last night was absolutely f$*&ing incredible. Thank you all for being a part of it. "'Til June" is out on all the places where you get your music. Stream it from the link in my bio. Love y'all. <3 @37ft @ahrenshreeve @stephensifflard_music @houseofhara @supergooch9293 @subdriftboston @clubpassim
" 'Til June is a potent combination of intelligent storytelling and an eclectic musical palette. He sets a dark and gritty tone at the start, channeling Tom Waits on the bluesy “Diamonds”... From there he effortlessly shifts into the catchy pop of “The Gang’s All Gone”... [Then] Into the horn-fueled R&B of “You’re Still On My Mind”, a saga of a lamented, lost love... He shares some of his life experiences on the gentle “Wrong”, which explores racism that he’s encountered in his life, and the raucous “No Fun”, the story of his decision to give up alcohol. Both are wonderful showcases of the fearlessness, both lyrically and musically, that Prateek demonstrates on ‘Til June." Big thanks to Meyer Danzig at Twangville for this incredibly kind advance review of "Til June!" Grab your tickets to the release show NEXT WEEK! Link in my bio. 📷 by @stephaniehouten
"On the sobering and deeply personal "No Fun"... the Kerrville Folk Finalist and Boston Music Award nominee reflects on the struggles of staying off the wagon as a musician who frequented bars and how it turned him into a recluse for a time... While he admits his story didn't suffer from as much emotional baggage as others, the reflective nature of the song serves as a beacon of light for anyone fighting similar demons in the hope that they can conquer them too." Big thanks to @wickstromwrites and @theboot_dotcom for these very kind words about "No Fun!" Come hear this song and more at the album release show in 11 DAYS - ticket link in my bio! 📷 by @stephaniehouten
My wonderful friend Kim bought a ticket to my album release show and wants to give that ticket to someone who wants to go but doesn't have the funds! If you live out of state and wanna be like Kim, why not do the same? Just head to the link in my bio and comment on this post when you've bought one. If you're interested in grabbing a ticket from someone who can't make it, just reply to their comment! For real - you don't have to, but I've had a couple of folks express interest in doing this, and I'm honestly touched by the gesture. Hope to see at the show - April 6th at Club Passim! 📷 by @stephaniehouten
the short version: my album release show is in THREE WEEKS? Have you gotten your tickets yet??? The ticket link is in my bio the long version: my album release show is in three weeks. As I transition back to working a day job, this show will be my last HEADLINING show for the foreseeable future. So I have a selfish goal that I'd like your help with. I wanna sell this sucker out. I've never sold out a headlining show in my whole career and I'd love to go out (sort of) on a high note. If you're around, please come and bring as many people as would love to come with you. Believe me when I say I would endlessly appreciate seeing you there. The ticket link is in my bio <3 📷 by @stephaniehouten
Hi folks. Over the past several months - past few years, really - I've come to an unfortunate realization. I no longer enjoy being a musician. I still love playing music. I still love getting up in front of a crowd. But the endless work, the endless social media posts, the endless striving to prove myself to seemingly everyone no longer interest me, nor bring me any joy. Currently, I'm enrolled a web development bootcamp. When I graduate, I'll be heading back to the non-artistic workforce. It's a change that's been long overdue. Which means that my upcoming album release show is a farewell of sorts. I'll still be playing music, true, and still doing some very exciting things with that music. But more selectively. I don't have the same drive, the same relentless optimism that I did when I was twenty-five. It's high time to not only admit that, but own it. I hope to see you at this album release show so we can bid farewell to this part of my life together, and hopefully greet an even more fulfilling part of my life together as well. The ticket link is in my bio. If you've read this far, thanks. <3
I've got good news and bad news: The bad news: One of my housemates has come down with COV!D so tomorrow's Sunday Sweatpant Sessions will be rescheduled to next Sunday the 15th. The good news: Got an album dropping in April and a new single dropping v soon 👀 📷 by @stephaniehouten
"When your heart feels hardened as a diamond, you don’t exactly have to go mining for ballad inspiration. Prateek perfects an oldie but a goodie here, steeping a years-old tune in the swampy muck and mire of Southern blues with some help from producer Sean McLaughlin. “Diamonds” shines through the authentic grit that surrounds it — and that’s what makes it the crown jewel of Prateek’s catalog to date." Overjoyed that @@vanyalandmusic listed "Diamonds" as one of their favorite songs of 2022! Big thanks to @vicki_writes for these kinds words and to all of you for listening to "Diamonds" this year. Get excited - there's more new music to come in 2023. 📷 by @stephaniehouten
I feel kind of weird making this post, but I do need to post more, so here goes. It’s that time of year where almost every indie artist I know is releasing a Christmas song. I’ve tried to get in on this trend in years past and it just feels… weird? Dishonest? Like I’m trying to be someone I’m not? Yeah. I don’t celebrate Christmas. I’m not a particularly religious person, and I don’t have a lot of extended family. Which are sort of the main reasons people celebrate Christmas after all. I won’t get into it any more, but suffice it to say that releasing a Christmas song or playing a Christmas show when I don’t even celebrate Christmas doesn’t make much sense to me. So why am I making a post about this? Well, partially because in the age of social media, everything has to be a statement so it can become a brand so it can become a product. But also because I want to say that if you also don’t celebrate Christmas, I see you. We might not have the same reasons, and that’s more than okay. I’m just tired of keeping these feelings to myself and feeling like I’m losing my mind. Will this ever change? Maybe. Maybe not. If it does, I’ll be sure to let you know. In the meantime, here’s a photo of my partner’s cat. Have a good weekend. ✌🏽
I posted my Spotify wrapped and then deleted it. Truth is that I’m just happy y’all dig my music and I can post about that without giving free advertising to a company that’s only interested in exploiting artists. Thank you for listening to my music this year. Thank you for buying my CDs. Thank you for subscribing to my Patreon. Thank you for being here 🙏🏽
Big belated thanks to @sofarboston for having me on Wednesday and to all the wonderful folks who came out. To all my new followers: welcome! Thanks for joining me on this wild ride. Today’s bandcamp Friday. I won’t bore you with the details but just know that if you buy my music on Bandcamp today, it makes a huge difference. L!nk in the you know what.
"It’s taken a few years of elbow grease, but Prateek finally finished polishing one of his prized folk tunes. After a multiple renditions — including an appearance on the 2020 edition of Sound of Our Town — the Boston balladeer has nestled his tune “Diamonds” in the perfect swampy blues setting for 2022." Big thanks to @vicki_writes of @vanyalandmusic for this incredibly kind writeup of "Diamonds!" Incidentally, today is Bandcamp Friday, meaning that if you buy "Diamonds" from my Bandcamp page, all of your money goes to me - no fees! The l!nk is in my bi0! 📷 by @stephaniehouten
"Boston's Prateek continues his musical evolution. His latest single, "Diamonds," is still rooted in folk and roots music, but it sees Prateek experimenting with a few different genres... If you haven't yet, it's time to join us on the Prateek bandwagon ASAP." Big thanks to "If it's too loud" for this wonderful write-up of "Diamonds!"
