The petals (6.5cm x 5.5cm) could be rounder and flatter so hope it improves next flowering. NS 12cm, L 10.5cm. A massive flower for a small plant. 🇬🇧In the nineteenth century, orchids were widespread among the wealthy nobles. For this reason, many "orchid hunters" went to tropical areas looking for the most beautiful plants to sell at a high price. They were prepared to pick as many flowers as possible and destroy the others. This brought several varieties to the brink of extinction in nature, some of them "saved" by cultivation in nurseries. One of these is the Cattleya skinneri (in the photo), very rare in its natural habitat but present in specialized nurseries. 🇮🇹Nell’ottocento, le Orchidee erano molto diffuse tra i nobili facoltosi. Per questo molti "cacciatori di orchidee" partivano per le zone tropicali cercando le piante più belle da rivendere a caro prezzo. Pur di averne l'esclusiva erano disposti a raccogliere più fiori possibili e a distruggere gli altri. Ciò ha portato diverse varietà sull'orlo dell'estinzione in natura, alcune di esse "salvate" grazie alla coltivazione nei vivai.
