📍Levain Bakery, Blockhouse Bay Auckland I've been craving a pie for weeeeeks, so when we were nearby Levain this weekend, I knew we had to stop by. Firstly, their sausage rolls are DELICIOUS. Definitely a winner, the pork meat wasn't dry, nice amount of filling, and the onion and fennel definitely came through 10/10. I would come back here just for the sausage rolls. Secondly, the pies. We waited about 30 mins before we were able to order (we arrived close to 2pm, so maybe come early if you want to avoid the line), and by the time we got to the cabinet all the popular pies like their beef cheek jalepeno and wagyu beef were sold out. We ordered the steak and mushroom and lamb pie, and overall it was a decent pie. Their pastry is definitely a standout, it was nice and flaky on top, and thicker but not chewy on the bottom. It also wasnt oily at all like some other pies, just lovely and light. The fillings however, were just ok. There was a lot of gravy in the steak and mushroom, and I didnt get a lot of musroom. Flavour wise, the steak tasted like other bakeries so nothing too different for me. The lamb was a bit better, but not my favourite flavour, it reminded me of a curry? Next time I definitely want to try their popular flavours, but I would pass on the steak and mushroom and lamb.
