Firstly, add EQ: Cut low frequencies and the moody end by 250 Hz. In the reverb: Adjust decay length based on your preferences, keep the mix at 100%, and pre-delay at 10-15 ms. 8. Delay. Lets take a deeper dive 👇👇👇 ❓Why use the Abbey Road Reverb Trick? ✔ Reverb at its full frequency can cloud your mix. An easy solution to narrow the frequency response of your reverb is by inserting an EQ on the auxiliary track and using a hi-pass and low-pass filter to remove any unnecessary high and low frequencies from the reverb. ❓Do I have to set my hi-pass filter at 600 hz and low-pass filter at 10k hz every time? ✔ No. The 600 hz and 10k hz is just a great starting point. This technique has been used at Abbey Road Studios on classic records from the past. You can adjust the hi-pass and low-pass filters to suit your song and taste. ❓What reverb should I use? ✔ Any reverb will work! Your stock reverb in Pro Tools, FL Studio, Ableton, Cubase, Studio One, or any other DAW will do just fine. Before mixing, you need to understand a simple rule: if you want your listener to focus on one main element, you must create space for it by reducing the impact of other elements. To learn how to level your vocals easily, follow these steps: 1️⃣ Start by adding pink noise to your DAW at 0 dB volume. Lower the output volume and adjust your vocals and the beat using volume knobs and EQs. Begin with volume. Solo the beat channel, lower its volume, and set the pink noise volume to -3 dB. Gradually increase the beat’s volume until it’s barely audible. Repeat this process for vocals and adlibs. 2️⃣Next, use EQ on the beat to adjust prominent frequencies, such as hats and bass. After adjusting these frequencies, reset the beat’s volume to zero and increase it until barely audible. 3️⃣Repeat the process for vocals and adlibs. Listen carefully and adjust any prominent frequencies to a maximum of -2 dB. 4️⃣Remember, if your vocal EQ appears drastic, with EQ points exceeding a 2 dB gain range, reconsider your approach, as the issue may lie with the beat, compression, sidechain, or vocal chain. 5️⃣With everything adjusted individually, enable all vocal tracks, including the pink noise, and fine-tune the mix. Be mindful of excessive frequency bumps, which may indicate issues with sidechain, compression, or the vocal chain.
