And now it’s finished! . Around a week ago I began weaving a light weight summer scarf using Merino lambswool spun in the U.K. . It took a long time to weave as I’m used to making chunky woolly wraps! . I made a slight mistake with the warp length needed for such fine yarn. The measurements after wet finishing is 35cm x 132cm, which is absolutely fine. I was aiming for around 180cm long! But, it’s another learning curve, I know where I went wrong and I’m happy with that. . I’ve already warped up the (rigid heddle) loom to weave another summer scarf. For the last couple of weeks I’ve been very busy learning how to weave 4 shaft twill patterns on my rigid heddle loom. . It’s certainly been a journey and I’m really happy with how it’s going so far! . I absolutely loved weaving on the 8 shaft table loom last November, it was pure joy. But since I struggle visually with knitting and such like (things seem to move around in front of me) I sadly found the table loom too much of a challenge to dress. The individual heddles were just swaying in front of my eyes. (Even if they weren’t actually moving!) So, following an online video lesson from @casanova_kelly_weaver for rigid heddle loom weavers, I tentatively began to thread a straight draw to enable me to weave twill patterns on fixed heddles, and it worked! So a very big thank you to Kelly @casanova_kelly_weaver for her amazing online weaving school tutorials! And again, much thanks to Pamela @pamelaprint.woventextiles for her marvellous workshop which enabled me to weave some super patterns on an 8 shaft table loom. . This is the beginnings of a 2/2 twill using two different coloured 2/2/17 merino lambswools. I’m weaving a 4 heddle pattern on 3 rigid heddles, but you can also use a combination of heddles, pick up sticks and a heddle rod if you prefer. I’ve got my selvedge edges weighted down with metal hooks. Recently I looked at lots of loom warping posts seeing other weavers with much better techniques than my own. The lambswool I often use is fragile and previously I would break lots of warp threads over many hours when winding the yarn onto the back beam. Since weighing the warp down on a table with books which can then glide across the table during winding it has been much easier. Unfortunately this image doesn’t show the books but you can see that the warp threads are under tension going down to the table.
