A Pesti Műhely munkásságával foglalkozó válogatás továbbutazott Hszianba. A Mozdulat – Jel – Gesztus című csoportos kiállításunk a Velencei Biennálé ideje alatt lesz látható. ✡️ 4월 16일은 1944년에 헝가리 홀로코스트가 시작된 날로, 2001년부터 헝가리 홀로코스트 희생자를 추모하는 날로 지정되었습니다. 1941년 헝가리의 유대인 인구는 72만 5,000명이었으나 이 중 3분의 2가 강제추방된 후 돌아오지 못 했습니다. 또한, 수천 명의 헝가리의 소수 민족인 '로마'인들도 홀로코스트의 희생자로 강제수용소에서 목숨을 잃었습니다. 4월 16일을 맞이하여 차별과 편견으로 인하여 비극적으로 생을 마감한 사람들을 추모하고 생존자들의 행복을 빌어보는 시간을 가져보시기 바랍니다. ✡️ April 16 marks the beginning of the Hungarian Holocaust in 1944, making it the Memorial Day for Hungarian Victims of the Holocaust since 2001. Hungary’s Jewish population was 725,000 in 1941, of which two-thirds never returned from deportations. Besides, thousands of Hungarian Roma citizens also perished in concentration camps as victims of the Holocaust. Hungary’s most famous epic poem János vitéz (John the Valiant) is soon to be found on the bookshelves in the Korean bookstores. The year 2023 marked the 200th anniversary of the birth of Hungary's most-beloved poet, Sándor Petőfi. To honor Petőfi’s memory Liszt Institute Seoul and the Korean publishing company, Alma Inc. with the support of the Petőfi Literary Fund prepared a dual-language edition book of the poem János vitéz. The story of Jancsi (Johnney) was brought to life on the book’s pages with the amazing illustrations of world-renowned sand art master, Ferenc Czakó. János vitéz tells the story of a young shepherd named Kukoricza Jancsi, who makes a grave mistake and leaves his home and the woman he loves, Iluska, behind. His path is fraught with adversity, including fearsome bandits, raging wars, giants and witches who have plunged the world into darkness. However in the name of true love, Jancsi is willing to undergo all adventures and challanges. On March 24, Péter Eötvös, two-time Kossuth Prize winner, composer, conductor, music educator, outstanding figure of Hungarian and international contemporary music died at the age of 80. Eötvös conducted the world's major orchestras, including the Berlin, Munich, London and Vienna Philharmonics, and was principal guest conductor of the Budapest Festival Orchestra from 1992-1995, the National Philharmonic Orchestra from 1998-2001 and Concerto Budapest from 2022. Péter Eötvös was going to travel to Korea to appear at this year's Tongyeong Music Festival, which runs from 29 March to 7 April. The festival will be held as planned, and will feature works by Péter Eötvös, including his "Secret Kiss" and "Aurora", which will be performed for the first time in Asia, and a new work for Korean audiences. It is deeply devastating that Eötvös is no longer here to experience the love of the Korean audience. My book, "Become a Champ!" has been published in Slovenian this week.🧡 I was invited with my husband to Ljubljana which is a cute and wonderful town - and I did not get lost.😅 Why do I tell this to you? Let me explain it with a story from the book...📚 As one of the final "tactical" preparations, the day before the tournament, I always went from my accommodation to the competition venue, and I had two good reasons for it. Since smartphones and navigation apps didn't exist back then, I wanted to know the route and how long it would take me to get from the hotel to where I had to sit down the next day. Secondly, I wanted to assess the competition hall and the conditions. In 1988, in Hastings, England, I also took that tour: the venue, the elegant building on the hill was a 15-minute walk from my accommodation. The next day, my mom and I set off from the hotel. We walked and wandered, and after a quarter of an hour, we reached the top of the hill – except that the sought-after building was nowhere to be found. We had climbed another hill...🙃 I panicked, tears welled up, then I calmed down. We headed back to our hotel. We found the point where I had taken the wrong turn, and even though I was ten minutes late, I finally managed to start my first game. I refined my "tactics": after the Hastings incident, I paid even closer attention during reconnaissance trips. I never got lost again, nor did I arrive late. Lesson? If you make a mistake, try to stay calm, go back to the starting point, and plan again. Even though comedy became the dominant film genre in Hungarian filmmaking under the high influence of Székely’s Hyppolit, he was also the first to experiment with other genres: directing crime films, melodramas and Lubitsch-style operettas. He also made a number of literary adaptations, including Ernő Szép's The Girl Who Liked Purple Flowers (Lila akác) and a film version of Zsigmond Móricz’s novel Be Faithful Unto Death (Légy jó mindhalálig). Yesterday we welcomed Ms. Hyunjung SON and Ms. Sojin PAK, curators of the Photography, Seoul Museum of Art in Liszt Institute Seoul to discuss opportunities of future cooperation. Photography, SeMa, a branch of the Seoul Museum of Art and Korea’s first public photography museum, is under construction with the goal of openning in 2024. The museum aims to be the main venue for history of Korean photography as well as become the major museum of photogtraphy in Korea showcasing exhibitions from around the world. Exactly 180 years ago on this day Mihály Munkácsy (1844-1900), one of Hungary’s most prominent and critically recognized painters, was born. Munkácsy had a great impact on the Hungarian art and earned international reputation and acclaimed with his genre pictures and large-scale biblical paintings. Towards the end of his life returned to classic Hungarian themes, and among these paintings, one of his masterpieces, The Conquest (The Settlement of the Magyars in Hungary) stands out. This colossal and awe-inspiring painting, which spans more than 4 meters in width and over 13 meters in length, was created between 1891 and 1893 and today decorates the walls of one of the main halls of the Hungarian Parliament. Munkácsy was one of the most influential painters of his time, so it is not surprising that his entire oeuvre is respected and considered among the greatest achievements of Hungarian art. In fact, the more than 150-year-old City Park Ice Rink is one of the oldest, largest and most beautiful ice rinks in Europe due to its scenic location. Do you know about the Hungarian springtime tradition of "busójárás"? It's a festival between February 8 and 13 in the southern Hungarian city of Mohács to welcome spring after the long and gloomy winter. The festival was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2009. The busós wear masks carved from willow, traditionally painted with animal blood, and heavy clothing made of wool. The reason for their frightening appearance is to ward off winter. Hungary was the first country that South Korea established diplomatic relations with through its Northern Policy. South Korea established diplomatic relations with Hungary in February 1989. In recent years, economic exchanges between Korea and Hungary have been very active, with many Korean companies entering the Hungarian market. Cultural exchanges between the two countries began to increase in 2010, and after the opening of Liszt Institute - Hungarian Cultural Center Seoul in 2019, the number of Hungarian cultural events in Korea increased significantly. 🇭🇺📜🖊어디 엔드레 시인의 사망 105주년을 맞아 그를 추모합니다. 🇭🇺📜🖊어디 엔드레(1877-1919)는 20세기 초 헝가리의 가장 저명한 시인 중 한 명이며, 현대 헝가리 문학과 사회에 큰 영향을 미쳤습니다. 그의 작품은 현대성과 정치적 급진주의의 상징이 되었습니다. 그는 일생 동안 총 13권의 시집과 수백 편의 기사를 게재했습니다. 1908년부터 1919년 사망할 때까지 ’뉴거트’ 신문사에서 근무했습니다. 어디의 사후 그의 생전 업적은 더 인정받게 되었고, 이후 헝가리 문학의 가장 위대한 인물 중 한 명으로 여겨지고 있습니다. 한국에서는 한국외국어대학교 헝가리어학과의 한경민 교수의 번역으로 어디 엔드레의 시집 <모든 비밀의 시>가 출간되기도 했습니다. We commemorate Endre ADY on the 105th anniversary of the poet's death. Endre ADY (1877-1919) was one of the most prominent Hungarian poets of the early 20th century. He had a great impact on contemporary Hungarian literature and society. His work became a symbol of modernity and political radicalism. In his lifetime he published a total of 13 poetry collections and hundreds of publicist articles. From 1908 he was a staff member of the journal ’Nyugat’ until his death in 1919. After his death, his life's work became increasingly recognised and he has been considered one of the greatest figures of Hungarian literature ever since. Amrita (1913 - 1941) was an eminent Indian painter born to a Punjabi Sikh father and a Hungarian Jewish mother. She has been called one of the greatest avant garde artists of the twentieth century whose depiction of the plight of women had made her art a beacon for women in India and abroad “Europe belongs to Picasso, Matisse and many others, India belongs only to me” The above quote reflects the undying love the legendary artist, Amrita Shergill, had for India. In fond remembrance of the legendary artist, Liszt Institute Hungarian Cultural Centre Delhi will present a ‘Mobile Museum – Amrita among us’ commemorating the 111th birth anniversary of the iconic Hungarian Indian painter Amrita Sher Gil on January 31 at 4 pm at Khan Market. Amrita (1913 – 1941) was an eminent Indian painter born to a Punjabi Sikh father and a Hungarian Jewish mother. She has been called one of the greatest avant garde artists of the twentieth century whose depiction of the plight of women had made her art a beacon for women in India and abroad. She was fondly known as India’s Frida Kahlo of East. Today, she is considered an important woman painter of 20th century India, whose legacy stands on par with that of the Masters of Bengal Renaissance. She is also one of the ‘most expensive’ woman painters of India whose artworks get sold for a whopping amount. ‘Mobile museum’ presents 9 live paintings inspired by some of the famous art works of Amrita Sher Gil including Three Girls, Self Portrait, The Little Girl in Blue, Victor Egan, Portrait of Father, Young man with Apples etc. Students of National School of Drama will be in act as live paintings. From the waist up, each person is styled in subject-specific makeup, clothing and accessories, transforming them into uncanny painterly depictions. They also wear gold frames with painted backgrounds, completing the museum-worthy looks. 지난 12월 9~10일, 성북천 분수마루에서 제12회 유러피언 크리스마스 마켓이 개최되었습니다. 유럽 여러 국가가 참여하는 이 축제에는 각국 대사관과 문화원이 참여하여 각국 음식과 특산품을 선보였습니다. 국내 외 방문객들은 헝가리 빵, 머랭쿠키, 뱅쇼, 랑고쉬 등을 비롯한 헝가리 전통 음식을 맛볼 수 있었습니다.🎅🎄🥐🍰🍷 On December 9~10 the European Christmas Market was opened on the Seongbukcheon Fountain Square. It was the 12th time this festival was organized to the crowds longing for some European Christmas spirit. The Workman’s Overall, Hungarian silent movie accompanied by live piano music Friday, 17 November 2023, 7:30pm to 8:30pm The Stein Auditorium, India Habitat Centre (IHC), Lodhi Road, New Delhi-110003, India Free Entry (Seating on First-Come First-Served Basis) Hungarian silent film is quite rare: in total, there are only a handful of films from Hungary’s silent film era, roughly 1900-1930, that have survived intact to the present day. The majority of the films that have been preserved are missing portions, or are damaged, and often the only content left of the films are photos or articles written about them. That is the reason why the discovery of A Munkászubbony (The Workman’s Overall), first shown on January 12th, 1915 by Dutch researchers at the Amsterdam-based EYE Film Institute in 2017 was a sensational addition to the world of Hungarian film history. Great joy for last April adventure on the border! On April 26th and 27th, I had the privilege of screening the first two episodes of "Breakfast over the Bridge" in Bratislava! The @pozsonyiszakkoli organized a wonderful dedicated event in collaboration with the Hungarian Cultural Institute of Bratislava, creating a mini-festival celebrating art and intercultural exchanges! The effort and passion poured into this event are beyond words. I owe a heartfelt thank you to everyone involved. From the captivating exhibition curated by @nadettglass , showcasing the talent of young artists in action, to @adampasztor97 enchanting guitar performance that took us on a journey around the world, it was a weekend of magical experiences. I had the pleasure of sharing this adventure with some wonderful friends, such as @szbllmaty and @tomib23 , not to forget The Bridgeguard team, including Karol Fruehauf and Gyuri Himmler, to whom I am immensely grateful. A special shout-out to Horváth Rebecca, whose skill as an interpreter and host made me feel at home in a community that is not my birthplace but welcomed me as if I had always been a part of it. Building new bridges, sharing laughter, and discussing a project that has been a part of my life for three years was truly rewarding.
