I love doing overhead rigs, but they can get quite daunting when you don’t think all of it through. In prepro for Lazy Bones, the DP hribar and I had a reference photo(swipe to see) we wanted to achieve. We were only flying an fx6 overhead so it wasn’t too heavy, however he wanted to be at a 18mm which makes it way more challenging. The move was to do (2) 10ft speed rails with 2 triple risers to make a goal post. Thankfully the ceiling was high enough to make it work(but it was very very close!). We did a aputure.lighting 1200D outside with the spotlight max with a gobo to dirty up the light streak on the floor. Add a Litegear Litemat 4 Spectrum on the side for some key and lift and you got yourself a beautiful image!" This stunning Manor House which is situated near Yeovil in somerset was the historic seat of the Gooden family from 1736 (until the estate was sold in 2002 and redeveloped into separate dwellings) and after a fire was partly rebuilt in 1839 -1843 with a Tudor façade to emulate Montacute House. The property was a butterfly farm from the late 70s and provided the silk for Princess Diana’s wedding dress in 1981. CONCEPT: Rising Sun Spa is inspired by the Dune films because of their dramatic use of contrasting light and for the metaphorical theme of transformation. Rammed earth will be used to represent timeless beauty. Reflective surfaces will be used to represent the sacredness of water and its ability to replenish. LIGHTING APPROACH: For a public space like a spa, task lighting is the most important layer of light. One can get away with lower ambient light levels if the task lighting is placed properly, which is the goal for this project. Cleanability is a major factor, which means flat, non-porous surfaces will be used in the necessary places. These smooth surfaces will provide an opportunity to refract light in places with higher use and traffic, but we want to avoid harsh glare. For larger surfaces, matte finishes will be specified so that the focus comes back to the specific area the spa service is being conducted. Matte finishes absorb more light than surfaces with shine, and therefore have more of a soothing effect on the viewer’s eyes. Taking the idea of least eye-catching to the extreme, the 99% light-absorbing paint, VantaBlack, will be specified for the lobby ceiling, drawing the viewer’s attention directly to the reception desk and playing with the idea of the depth of plane that light creates. Aesthetically, a soft glow is the goal in order to establish a calm ambiance and to highlight the results of the spa services on the clients since everyone looks good with a soft glow.
