I find it better to let your general reading, your passion and latent knowledge inform the writing in a more organic way. If youโre writing about a place you know, a subject or time you have a deep fascination with, I would encourage you to allow space for what is already there emerge in the writing. Sounds a little woo woo until youโve experienced it but I would bet any money that the things you are enamoured with arenโt random. Writing is a way to bring these, we might call them, dna memories, to the fore. Believe me, you donโt want anything interfering with that. Itโs part of great writing, itโs what we seek. This, friends, is something I specialise in when it comes to workshops and mentoring. I can get to the really deep stuff, take you with me...
