It started off quite chilly yesterday in the 50s. It warmed up to the mid 70s. We took our Sunday snap between the crape myrtles and the magnolia trees. Shelton cried when she realized she would be at camp on Father’s Day. We explained that it was ok and I’d make sure Scott had a great weekend. Before she left she made cards and left them around the house. She also mailed several Father’s Day cards from camp. That same father -child love is evident in our relationship with our Heavenly Father. God rescued us through His own Son, Jesus and promised to never leave us or forsake us. I’m an introvert homebody who loves to cook, read, and sit outside. I love starting my day peacefully in the Word and ending my day quietly giving thanks. I’m most comfortable at home. I especially like the slow start mornings on the weekend. Extended time quietly reflecting over my week and thinking about what lies ahead. I love this picture- it looks like a fall tree turning colors yet I took it Saturday among the lush green trees. One of these days I will dig out some pictures from my youth choir days. It was a powerful season that shaped me. When I read this scripture I was immediately taken back to my youth choir days. I loved singing in the choir. We were a close knit group who sang at the 8:30am service each Sunday morning. I am so thankful for that season in my life. I learned more scripture than I realized. Even today, and the melodies play in my head when a familiar passage turns out to be the verse of the day. The hymn playing in my head this morning is "First Song of Isaiah". We’ve started dating every day/night since we dropped Shelton at camp. We did the same thing for ten months before we got married. This go around it’s been nice to disrupt our normal schedules taking extra time to focus on each other. The love we show one another is a reflection of the Love Christ shows us. The message is clear in the Bible that we are to love as Jesus loves. That still applies in our busy over taxed lives. They looked so tiny against the vast ocean as I snapped pictures a few weeks ago. Shelton was holding tight to Scott as the jumped the waves for the first time in four years. The sun was beaming through the clouds as I snapped this picture. It could be a painting for someone more talented than me. I’m humbled daily in awe of God’s work in my life. His grace is overwhelming somedays and other days I take it for granted. I know each day is a fresh start to try again. I’m grateful for that! Just a few years ago loving on her Genie Kitty 💗 The heart is so important. It keeps us going and alive. The Bible mentions the heart over 825 times but the brain is mentioned 0 times. Think about that. It’s not a about our brainpower but our heartbeats. One of my favorite verses is “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight” (Proverbs 3:4-5). With our heart we are called to trust, love, guard, and be strong. In today’s verse God says He will give a new heart of flesh rather than stone. Through grace and The Holy Spirit God softens our hearts and turns our hearts to Him. With soft hearts we are able to love and show grace to others. That’s exactly what our hurting world needs especially right now ❤️ Dear Lord, thank you for giving us hearts to love and do your work. June 5, 2021, was one of the best days and hardest day at the same time. I was losing the one that made me a momma. I trusted God for the big things and surrendered my life to Him yet held on tightly to my baby girl. I’ve learned over the last year that checking in with her wasn’t necessary. My intent wasn’t to stifle her yet protect her and love her. So I hadn’t truly surrendered everything to the Lord. Over the last year I’ve asked God to fill the holes in my heart. Scott shot this last night sitting on the deck. The crescent moon in the darkening night sky. 🌙 From our tiny deck we see the God’s handiwork in the nature. Mountains, sky, wildlife, trees, and flower. It’s easy to sit back and enjoy God’s creation but we are called to love and serve others not just know the word and observe. Love is an action verb. In our verse today Paul writes to the Romans to “owe no one anything but love”. We are not to be slaves to our worldly society but to love our neighbors. Who is your neighbor? Jesus said “Love your neighbor as yourself” ( Matthew 19:19). We are all neighbors on this earth traveling through till we are called to our eternal home or till Jesus returns. And since no one knows when that will be we ought to love everyone (Matthew 24:36). No, that’s not easy but it’s the law. The law to love God and love people should guide everything we do! Can you imagine how wonderful life on earth would be if we all did that? It’s supper outside season and we are loving it! Finding peace in our crazy world for me means retreating from everything and focusing on God and my family. Going to the beach is amazing but not practical for me daily. I love starting my day in the Word and ending the day on my tiny deck giving thanks. The Word of Life is found in scripture. We find Biblical applications to our worldly problems. By renewing our mind in the word we walk in faith rather than in the world. Our mindset determines our day and our future. How amazing is that? On my evening walk I was startled twice by a deer jumping out of the bushes. When I gasp the deer looked at me like -what are you doing? I think life is a lot like that. As Christians, we are called to walk on God’s path in faith. It’s not the popular path or trendy path but it is the safest. We are called to love one another as God loves us ( John 15:12). In today’s verse we are called to have mercy like God. The dictionary defines mercy as “compassion or forgiveness shown toward someone whom it is within one's power to punish or harm”. God has the power to harm us yet instead, He sent His one and only son Jesus to die on the cross for our sins (John 3:16). That’s mercy! So next time you have the opportunity show compassion and forgiveness instead of giving someone what they deserve, do it! I bet they will be startled and may even give you a look like- what are you doing? Remember, God ways are higher and better. I love them. Scott is so patient and leads our family offerings Biblical answers to all of her worldly questions. What does it mean to have a heart of compassion? How do we show kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience? In our fast paced hurting world it is easy to become impatient and frustrated. We can blame it our circumstances, the government, and others. Jesus felt all of this too! He stepped down to a broken world yet remained prefect and without sin. As humans it is impossible for us to be sinless and God knows that. How we react is so important though. To humbly present ourselves to God seeking forgiveness and restoration of our relationship with Him. How we love others and show the fruits of the spirit say a lot about who we are in this world. 🍎 🍉 Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. We finished Memorial Day with a late supper outside with a sweet friend. After the meal we talked for hours. Her faithfulness through the journey of life praising God in all situations was such a good reminder of the goodness of God. It is so easy to get caught up in our own trials of life. Our hope is in no one but Jesus Christ. Listening to the Holy Spirit was her parting guidance. It was the best way to end a long restful weekend. I thank God everyday for the people on my journey that pour into me in love abiding with God. ❤️ When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come. Last night Shelton walked across a long piece of wood in the sand. She was proud she made it without falling off. Life is a balance. As Christians we put God first, then family, then everything else. Sometimes the pull of the world knocks us off balance. God is our protector, and life preserver. Trusting Him for everything keeps us in balance. No matter the power or position we hold on earth God is our help and guiding force. When making a decision ask yourself: Is this what God wants me to do? Is it pleasing to Him? How will this help long-term? In the verse today the psalmist prays trusting God with his life. We are called to praise God and trust Him with our life. That means seeking Him first over everything. I stood on the shore watching the tide rolling in, washing over my feet. It continued without fail. The deeper in the water I got the more I felt the power of the water rushing over me. Peace be with you! Where do you find peace? Beautiful nature outside? Reading your Bible? The quiet when no one is around? When Jesus was preparing to leave His disciples He promised to send a helper we know as the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit guides us, comforts us, gives us a peace that passes all understanding. Sometimes life feels like a maze. We can’t understand so much of what is going on in this world. It seems we’ve lost our way and are not focused on what truly matters. The life we have now won’t always be this way. The pain and sorrow we suffer will one day be wiped away. It’s our eternal hope through our faith in Jesus Christ. He knows what we are going through. He was mocked and beaten though sinless. Yet, He comforted those around Him. Jesus told the disciples not to let their hearts be troubled. Jesus said that to comfort them as He knew what was coming. Jesus told them that He will prepare a place for them (John 14:3). They did not understand. Jesus was leaving them. Their earthly leader becoming their Heavenly Father. We have the benefit of The Bible to teach us, what is important and what to focus on. “Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth” (Colossians 3.2). We teach our children to love and value others. Songs like “Jesus loves the little children of the world” guide their sweet hearts. I love that as adults we are children of God. That as Christians we are to have faith like a child not swayed by earthly titles or positions. My walks each day are renewing. When it rains I miss that time. I know I’ve said it before but the dogwoods are still blooming everywhere. I’m finding new ones each day. It’s my Easter reminder- the greatest gift and grace. As I read the verse this morning I remembered the word the preacher prayed each Sunday before the sermon, “May these words of my mouth and this meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, LORD, my Rock and my Redeemer” (Psalm 19:14). When I’m going into a tough situation I pray - Lord help me hear what I need to hear and say what I need to say for Your Glory. In Jesus name I pray. What if I prayed that all the time- not just in touch times? Rather than holding my tongue I used it to speak life always. I may never speak like Christ full of wisdom and grace but I believe seeking Him first points me in the right direction. Dear Lord thank you for guiding words each time I read the Bible. Thank you for the Holy Spirit nudging in everything. I ask that You help me to speak with grace in all that I do. In Jesus precious name. Running through the labyrinth hedges laughing and deciding which way to go as it starts to sprinkle. If only everything were that simple. We have many choices everyday. Some seem insignificant and we make them without much thought. Other decisions are weighty and require careful consideration. As children of God we are called to resist sin. The temptations are all around us. Thankfully, we have the Holy Spirit to guide us but ultimately we have the decisions to make. Once we are saved we can’t lose our salvation but the earthly consequences are still upon us. The best thing we can do is repent and move away from that sin. God’s grace is enough. God will keep us on the right path, we only need to ask. ✝️ Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. The Mountain Views still cause me to pause and stare. So beautiful and unique like people. Fill in this sentence: By the Grace of God I _______________________. I have so many things I can write. God’s mercy and grace got me where I am today and it wasn’t a smooth or easy road. Here’s another one: But of Jesus I’d be___________________. Again it is easier to look back and give thanks for all the trials we survived. Jesus was there. Through God’s mercy and grace Jesus paid it all. Today’s verse reminds us that as children of God saved by grace on the cross and through resurrection we can confidently approach the throne Jesus sits on as our savior and redeemer. My tiny deck. So peaceful. Society will tell you what you need. Then you want that believing it’s a need. It’s a trap I fell into when I was much younger. The older I got the more I realized I need the peace of Jesus in my life and not another thing to dust or iron. Sounds funny now but it’s true. God provides my needs. He always has. My wants on the other hand, not so much. And that’s ok as wants change but needs remain. I need food, shelter, the basics. I don’t need extreme amounts or the most extravagant. I need balance and Jesus. It’s much easier to distinguish the differences at my age but it’s not a lesson I learned early or easily. She looks so grown up showing Grandmoo her riding skills and bike from Christmas. We cried happy tears as she rings her bell and changes gears. It’s hard to believe the 4th grade is almost over. Shelton’s experienced more in her ten years than most in a lifetime. We are thankful for her health and God’s sovereignty. I love the sun shining through the trees. Each tree is pretty and yet all different. The dark green never changing evergreen next to the spring tree with new leaves glistening in the sun after a rain. All God’s creations. Similarly, we are all different yet made in the image of God. I am in awe of the beauty on my walks each day. It warmed up here in an instant this weekend. Feeling sun on my skin and nature in full bloom signals that summer is near. I feel so close to God quietly walking taking in the sights and sounds. He knows everything before I even think or speak. It’s interesting that we are judged by our choices, appearance, and actions in our world daily. As humans we jump to conclusions and make assumptions leading to judgement. Often we do not know the whole story. The One who does paid the price on the cross. Jesus loves us so much that He died for our sins. There is no condemnation at all. “Condemnation before God or justification by God comes from the choice we make about the Lord Jesus Christ. If we trust Him as Saviour there is no condemnation. If we do not trust Him as Saviour there is condemnation” (knowing Jesus). Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus ( Romans 8:1). 🎵🎶I want to walk as a child of the light. Yesterday we started the day on our tiny deck trying to see the mountains in the fog. We ended the day on the deck identifying the types of clouds. In between we had rain then abundant sunshine. So much change in one day. The world we live in changes often too. We can choose to focus on the crazy world or find hope in Christ alone. In our verse today it says there will be a time when the knowledge of the Lord will cover the earth like water. How refreshing to know God’s power and glory will not end. We are reminded of the same thing in Isaiah 11:9, “For the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea”. I love the reminders throughout the Bible; it gives me such hope each day. As we spread the gospel across the world we are helping the Word spread like the waters cover the sea. Yes another Dogwood bloom caught my eye. The four petals so elegantly reminding me of Jesus and all He did on the cross and still does daily for me. It makes my daily life a walk in the park though I cloud my days in ways I should not. Fear is a four letter word! As a Christian, who was saved over three decades ago how could I still be struggling with this? I trust God for the big things- sun rising - seasons-gravity but held on to fears. I use different verbs to conceal my fears. Words like worry and doubt. I worry about family, friends, jobs, illnesses....actually everything. Sure I prayed about it. Quoted scriptures. Counseled others to release everything to Jesus. So how at 40+ years am I fearful of anything on this earth? God has shown me time and time again He loves me and never guides me where He is not! I pray Lord help my unbelief. Rest me in You Lord. And I pray His promises. As you probably have noticed I love to take pictures of trees. All seasons all types. The sun on this Japanese Maple is especially beautiful. I also love the imagery of Jesus as the root and we are the branches. When a branch breaks off it is no longer living. A branch connected grows and flourishes. That is us. In Jesus we are active, alive, and flourishing. Without Him we are nothing. It also reminds me of a song we sang in the youth choir. Again the imagery, we grow and bloom where we are planted 🌳 🌲 He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful. I do love pretty things. I look back to seasons in my life where I collected things and enjoyed the hunt for the prefect treasures. I know that’s normal and human but the older I get the more I realize that’s just stuff. We downsized quite a bit when we moved to Virginia and I can say I truly don’t miss the abundance of space and stuff I thought I had to have. In fact I’m quite content in our tiny rental. My momma always said I was “Uni- Que”growing up. The fact that she said Uni-Que makes her unique 😉. I’ve always told my girls that God made them special. My sweet girls almost a year ago. Today’s verse is so appropriate for Mother’s Day Weekend. Raising children is not easy and it seems the rules are always changing. The pink dogwood caught my eye as I was walking. After Easter each year here they bloom for a month in random order. I’ve noticed that the white one bloom first then the pink. I love that my neighborhood has so many. My walks are more like prayer walks than the power walk l once did. I slow down taking in nature and giving thanks. I pray and release everything to God as I walk. It’s freeing. And I know when I don’t know what to pray the Holy Spirit intercedes on my have. Today’s a new day, a new month and it’s supposed to warm up! So much hope and excitement as summer is getting closer and the school year ends. My sweet baby was on the couch ready to watch a movie but fell asleep by 8:30. Somedays are like that. We have the best laid plans and are quickly diverted. My list is always longer than my day. I’m reminder that it’s ok to stop and take a break. The sunsets are beautiful lately as the warmer days turn to cool nights. We have the eyes to see the beauty each day when we stop long enough to see it. As Christians, we are called to love and to be generous with all people even the ones who are not kind to us. In today’s verse Jesus shares the principles of sowing and reaping.
