Not only are Col. Mustafa & Bob Backlund the last two WWF champions, before Hulkamania, but they’re admittedly two wrestlers if you rebooked Hasbro WWF toy figure output, would have a small window to realistically get a figure. Iron Sheik returned to WWF just after Wrestlemania VII, to help Sgt. Slaughter & General Adnan, take down Hulk Hogan, calling themselves the Trinity Of Terror. Now known as Col. Mustafa, no reference was made to his Iron Sheik name, or accomplished previous run, that only ended in 87, despite his history with Hulk Hogan, that fans got reminded of in late 91, with the Hulk Hogan: Real American TV special, that opened with Hogan beating Sheik for the belt. After the Trinity lost at Summerslam in the main event, Slaughter turned babyface, with him & Mustafa on opposite Survivor Series teams. Post Royal Rumble, Mustafa’s appearances were more sporadic, with UK Rampage Tour being one of his last. Mustafa still could have gotten a figure between series 4-5. Duel to Bob Backlunds big push from the summer of 94, where he became ‘psycho’ Bob, attacking New Generation wrestlers & even reclaiming the World title, 11 years after his last reign ended, Hasbro & WWF likely regretted their wasn’t already a Backlund figure on toy shelves. Even with hindsight booking, WWF would only have signed off on a Backlund figure between series 8-9. This was in 93, where a few months after an indifferent return, Backlund broke the duration Royal Rumble record, going nearly an hour, from the start, to 2nd to last elimination. Backlund got a Wrestlemania IX match, losing to Razor Ramon. Mr Bob Backlund " The winner andddd Newwww World Wrestling Federation Heavyweight Champion, MR Bobbbb... Backlund " Survivor Series 1994 the I Quit match for the WWF championship Mr Bob Backlund against Heavyweight Champion Bret the Hitman Hart. Backlund was a previous WWF Champion beating Superstar Billy Graham in 1978 and holding the title till Boxing Day 1983 where he was defeated by the Iron Sheik. Backlund never gave up it was a different type of submission match where the wrestlers manager had to throw the towel in the ring if he believed the wrestler they were managing were in too much pain when a hold was applied. Arnold Skaaland was Backlunds manager back then and the guy who threw the towel in the ring to make Backlund lose the title. Backlund never forgave Skaaland. On the fall of 1994 at the Survivor Series Backlund challenged Bret Hart for the title in a similar match. Bret was having a family feud with younger brother Owen in another I Quit Match. Owen had interfered in the match taking cheap shots at his brother. Owen was holding Mr Backlunds towel where Davy Boy Smith was holding Bret's. Davy Boy fed up with Owen's interference chased Owen round ringside until Owen ducked and Davy Boy tripped and smashed into the steel steps knocking him out cold. Owen now had a problem there wasn't anyone to throw in Bret's towel as Backlund applied the Crossface Chicken Wing on Bret, Owen pleaded with his mother Helen at ringside. It looked like Owen had a change of heart.
