Scenes from yesterday's Riversweep outside Inwood Hill Nature Center and Muscota Marsh. Happy volunteers, lead by longtime leaders Kirsten & Leslie, cleaned up the shoreline of Northern Inwood Hill Park, collecting litter, including a number of baseballs, endless bottle caps, a rotted grill, and plastic confetti, to name just a few things. They also filled and recycled several bags worth of recyclable plastic, splitting them up between volunteers to take home. (NYC Parks does not recycle, so items need to be placed in residential recycling). The cleanup covered a vast area, with the tide relatively low, and litter was pulled from under slippery and jagged shoreline rocks and in between the dense foliage of the wetland areas.
