A lot of our efforts are linked to the support from hospital staff and Child Life Specialists like Emily N. ❤️ Although Emily only began working at Sinai Hospital in 2023, she is already making a huge impact on our campers and other children like them. Emily works closely with Fran S., our lovely Horizon On Wheels Coordinator, to provide a safe space for our families and some respite from the stress and difficulties that accompany a childhood cancer diagnosis. Emily explains it like this, “Our patients love when Fran comes and always ask if they can go back out to the waiting room to play with her... The power of play can truly do wonders when it comes to making a child feel more comfortable in a scary environment. The families that come into the hospital are experiencing many stressors as they try to navigate this new territory. If I can relieve some of their stress by offering them a break, playing with their child, or providing them with different resources then I have done my job.” ❤️ We want to recognize the hard work that Emily and other Child Life Specialists like her have done to educate, provide resources to, and promote a supportive environment for our campers and their families. We are grateful for their dedication and all that they contribute that makes a significant impact on the lives of the children and families we work with at Horizon.
