Bismillah Assalamu alakum wa rahmatullah Nourished Muslimahs! I pray that you are in the best of health, happiness and Iman. As I put together our curriculum for homeschooling, I'm learning that a big part is establishing anchor subjects. What needs to happen every day. For us, right now, those anchors are -a little bit of Arabic reading/writing -a little bit of English reading/writing -Quran time -a little bit of math Let me know if you want me to send you the list of resources and plan for our first year homeschooling. Comment "first year" if you want the link. Salaam and duas Alexandria #homeschooling #newhomeschooler #homeschoolingmuslims #nourishedfamily #nourishedmoms #nourishingourhome

My intention at the beginning of this process was to provide Scottish Muslim kids with an opportunity to come and browse books in which they saw themselves. I asked my fellow authors if they would send me their books so that I could present them to my homies. To my complete surprise, they agreed whole-heartedly. No questions asked about where this event was running, how I was managing it, what guarantee I could give them that they would get paid after the event, nothing. I then witnessed the same spirit of positivity from larger publishers as they came on board and offered trade prices, without which the event would not have been possible. Finally, and most remarkably, I saw people I had never met, like, share, comment on all my posts to help spread the word. This is the power of community. Then came the 17th of June. Like a mother whose child has an exam result coming out in the morning, I slept nervous but hopeful that all these books which I had been carefully collecting would be received well by the audience. Results day. Alhamdulillah. I witnessed joy on kids’ faces as they saw names like ‘Hamza’, or a little girl in a headscarf on the cover of these books. I saw parents delighted as they flicked through heartwarming, funny, informative, yet entertaining Islamic stories for their children. I saw people that did not even have kids to buy for, come along to support the cause. I saw non-Muslim teachers join the event because they wanted to purchase more inclusive books for their class library. And then I saw that which I should have seen all along- this plan wasn’t mine at all. I had been a very small component in how His plan was meant to come together. Truly, He is the Best of Planners. And last (I think!) but definitely not least in our awesome line up is @zanibmian. What can I say? Zanib Mian is a household name for any muslim family except for the ones that live under a rock! Zanib decided to switch careers from teaching biology to start writing and publishing children’s books because she wanted to provide the world with more diverse and inclusive books. And she’s totally smashing it mashallah! Her earlier books, Oddsockosaurus and The Robot That Said Moo were featured on the BBC’s CBeebies Bedtime Stories show and in the Guardian for their contribution to diverse children’s literature. In 2018, her book The Muslims won the Little Rebels Award and was longlisted for the 2018 UKLA Book Awards. Since then, there has been no looking back for Zanib and her publishing company, @muslimchildrensbooks. They are knocking it out of the park with every book and, to date, have sold over 100,000 of their books worldwide! There are too many achievements and awards to list. May Allah shower Zanib and her team with even more success and accept all their efforts. Ameen. Zanib writes for all ages of children. Everything she puts out, from her toddler series ‘Migo and Ali’, to the teen self help book ‘The Young Muslim’s Mindful Book of Wellbeing’ is simply exceptional. I would have loved to showcase all of Zanib’s books but I think I would need a whole book fair dedicated to Zanib for that! So instead, I have had the difficult task of trying to choose as wide a range as possible. There is something for everyone so do come and check out Zanib’s books on the 18th of June at Lanarkshire Mosque.

@salwahisaacs.author lives in Cape Town with her husband, four children (and a tuxedo cat called Pepper). Having children of her own inspired her to look into the world of Islamic books/writing as a means to help her children build a good Islamic identity. All of Salwah’s books contain so much Islamic knowledge presented beautifully in inspirational stories. I was blown away by Salwah’s debut, ‘Tittle Tattle Talia’. Do children (and adults) need to be taught about the dangers of gossiping? Yes! Salwah has addressed this very important topic so effectively. There are no other Islamic books in my knowledge which tell kids exactly what backbiting and gossiping means, how it impacts other people and most importantly how it is viewed within our faith. Bravo! ‘The Call to Hajj’ is a very informative and entertaining book about the most incredible physical and mental journey of any Muslim’s lifetime. The book beautifully explains the rituals of Hajj while showing children how the practice has evolved over time, for example modes of transport for the earliest Hajjis compared to now. And last but not least- I am bringing Salwah’s BRAND NEW release, ‘Come to Prayer’. This book is so hot off the press that I haven’t even had the chance to buy my own copy yet! Alhamdulillah, delighted that I managed to get this one to our book fair for you all. Special thanks to the team at @kubepublishing for their support in making it happen. Come and check out all 3 books at Lanarkshire Mosque on the 18th of June Insha Allah. . . . . . #childrensbooks #muslimchildrensbookauthors #islamicstoriesforchildren #independentbookstore #indiepublisher #islamicbookfair #scottishbookstores #childrensbookauthors #muslimauthors #womeninpublishing #blessedmonth #favouritebooks #author #muslimchildrensbooks #islamicstories #allahscreation #homeschoolingmuslims #representationmatters #backbiting #gossiping #hajjstories #hajj2023 #hajj #salah #salahbooksforkids #cometoprayer

@ibtihajmuhammad is the first American woman to compete in the Olympics wearing a hijab. She is a 2016 Olympic medalist, 5-time Senior World medalist and World Champion in the sport of fencing. Ibithaj is a true champion of inclusion and diversity within sport. Sajidah @skalibooks is an Indian-Canadian author of children’s books, best known for her Asian/Pacific American Award-winning debut young adult novel ‘Saints & Misfits’. Since, then Sajidah has written several successful books for young adults, middle graders and younger kids. She also consciously works to shine a spotlight on other muslim authors. Two very talented ladies and I’m proudly bringing you their co-authored New York Times bestseller which was also Amazon’s Best Book of 2019-‘The Proudest Blue’. This book explores first experiences of wearing a hijab, not just for the girl who wears it, but also for those that are seeing their classmate wearing one for the first time. I vividly remember the kind words said to me by a select few non-muslim classmates when I first started wearing hijab. Their words gave me so much comfort that I still think of them and smile all these years later. I’m so glad there is a book that opens up the discussion on how it feels for a muslim girl when she decides to take this big step and ways in which she will feel supported by her friends. The story is cleverly and sensitively written and a real celebration of religion, sisterhood and identity. A must-have for your home library! I also want to give a special shout out to publishers @penguinrandomhouse (US) and @andersenpress (UK). It’s amazing to see mainstream publishers make inclusive books which celebrate all religions, cultures and ethnicities. This is exactly what the publishing world needs! I hope that the success of this book will encourage more diverse stories to be picked up. Come and get your copy of The Proudest Blue as well as it’s very worthy sequel, ‘The Kindest Red’ from my book fair on the 18th of June.
