It was the first Thursday of May and my silk skirt was fluttering and I said “look at me! It is #memademay” and @drunk_bunk asked “are you doing this year #memademay2024 ?” “Yeah but I’m not taking pictures” “why not?” He asked, “it was the only good thing Instagram has, it was creative, it was sustainable and it was fun” So, here it is last week recap: 1. Tuesday 7th and Saturday 11th: the do-you-have-a-picture-of-your-last-dress? It is not my last dress but my mother fell in love when she saw it for the first time,so she is still asking me to share a picture of my last dress. The pattern is from #patterncosacademia it is called Barbara dress and the fabric is printed poplin from #gratacós 2. Wednesday 8th: This is the #helenawrapdress from #justpatterns in viscose (I’ve seen this fabric in several stores mine is from telas.es but be careful the lamé threads are itchy!) 3. Thursday 9th: all you need is a fabulous circle skirt! This is a self drafted circle skirt in black shatung silk from #ribesycasals It was a very cheap scrap I sew for new year’s eve to feel like a princess 👑 4. Friday 10th: that skirt was from your grandma? Once asked me a 90 years old woman. Yes it was! When I inherited my grandma sewing machine we found out two ongoing projects that I finished and one was this skirt. It is a pleated poliéster from the 70. The top is also handmade but not by me so I cannot tell you about it.

Finished making the #helenawrapdress out of a cute pink cotton fabric with little white daisies. This was a pretty quick make, so it was nice to start and end a project within a couple days for once haha! Although, I did have a little mishap involving forgetting to uncheck "scale print" for my pattern 🙄 I cut out all the slightly shrunken pattern pieces from my one-of-a-kind, hand dyed fish-patterned fabric before realizing 😳 Oh well, I'm still happy with this result. Day 3 of #memademay2024 and an unusually late night. This dress definitely wasn’t worn all day today but it was nice to dress up a bit for a trip to the theatre with @storey2729 . We had a fab time @hamiltonmusical ! I’m so chuffed with this dress, it’s the #helenawrapdress by @just_patterns and I love it! Such a great pattern, with pretty guts as well. This was my first time grading between sizes, as I’m pretty straight up and down but it worked out fine. The fabric is also a special one; it’s a mid weight ox by @makumo.textiles, which I got from @indybindyfabrics and the colours are just gorgeous! The pattern was involved and challenging but so satisfying to make and resulted in beautiful fit & finishes~ I'm not totally sold on my decision to add a contrast fabric; I feel like it makes the dress feel more 'fancy', and thus limits its wearability. Satisfaction . Hello! Je sais que tu l’as vue en réel dimanche, mais en photos, c’est sympa aussi! . J’aimerai surtout, plus que de te remontrer ma nouvelle robe (qui a fait sensation cette après-midi) te remercier. Cette semaine a été vraiment rude pour moi. Je ne savais pas quoi présenter au cap couture vêtement flou et plus précisément à l’oral de français. Après avoir cousu cette #helenawrapdress de @just_patterns , j’ai été très inspiré! Autant sur sa mise en forme que sur la matière utilisée ( un sublime lin viscose @lescouponsdesaintpierre ). Je ne te parle pas de l’histoire geo ou je devais venir avec 8 documents avec des thèmes imposer et les connaitres sur le bouts des doigts… autant te dire que j’ai demandé les documents de secours… . J’ai eu de la chance, je suis tombé sur l’espace Schengen et l’immigration. Parfait car les connaissances de l’Europe sont quand même assez simple . En bref, une semaine extrêmement stressante, avec beaucoup beaucoup de doutes. J’ai été malade toute la nuit et je n’a pas réussi à dormir , avec des mots d’estomac… mais maintenant c’est passé! Le pire de ce diplôme et maintenant, j’appréhende beaucoup moins l’avenir (surtout grâce à la formation que je suis avec @artesane_france et @reveasoie ) . Mais dans tout ça? Et bien j’ai reçu une quantité de MP innombrables, pour m’encourager, pour me motiver et me booster! Je voudrais vous remercier de tout , de ces mots qui comble mes doute. Vraiment, grâce à vous, j’ai une petite pression de la réussite 😅😂 mais surtout beaucoup de motivation. Alors merci! Merci et merci! . J’aimerai bien suis remercier l’homme de ma vie, qui m’a soutenue ces derniers jours malgré sa fatigue, qui a su me rassurer même à 3h42 cette nuit… et même toute la nuit alors qu’il avait fini le boulot à 1h30 Merci mon chéri @christophe_lecuyot . Fresh off the machine is my new @just_patterns #helenawrapdress . Measured into and made a size 44 top and 46 waistband and skirt. The Helena is a detailed sew but so worth the effort. The fit is next level. Fabric is Liberty Tana lawn from the @duckadillyfabrics remnant sale. It’s a lovely fabric that was a pleasure to sew with. The wide sleeves do create quite a bit of bra peek, so plan your undergarments wisely.

The Hanbok wrap dress, made using my projector as a first time project. I will write a separate post about that projector in the future, once I get a few more projects complete to get a really good idea on it. I love a good wrap dress, they are forgiving with weight fluctuations, easy to wear and layer. I have made numerous designs since I started sewing. So when this one popped up on my feed, I thought I'd give it a go. It's a cute design, it fully wraps and covers the front of my chest so I won't end up with a wardrobe malfunction. The sleeves are great, lots of volume considering it doesn't actually look like there are heaps of ease. I wore this garment both as a wrap dress and a loose long tunic with my culottes by not wrapping the tie around my waist completely. For me personally, it wasn't a complicated sew. Just a bit fiddly because of the skirt section. I think a beginner sewist will find it a little challenging to fit the skirt purely because you are not given an exact measurement for a skirt with a set width of pleat markings. They suggested using 1" pleats and to be "creative" with how you go about it. I found 1" to not work out for my waist, it ended up being far too short to reach end to end of the wrap. I reduced and adjusted the pleats to be more like 5/8" pleats to get the skirt to roughly the right width. Then I use a very light gathering to get the skirt to fit perfectly with the waist band (a little trick Burda does with their pleated garments that stuck with me). If I haven't had experience with the Burda patterns doing the gathering on pleats before, I think I would drive myself a little nutty readjusting the pleats to perfectly fit the skirt on the flat. 🧵 Pattern: #hanbokwrapdress by @yoursara_k . I measured between a large and extra large on their size chart. The suggestion was to go the larger size so I made a size XL. I added pockets to the skirt so had to re-divide the skirt to add additional side seams. Voilà maintenant des mois que j’attendais le bon moment pour me lancer dans ce projet, que les idées venaient et partaient sans que je ne sois totalement convaincue par le meilleur moyen de mettre en valeur ces tote bags @helenb.be . Helen B. est une artiste que j’ai découvert il y a plusieurs années maintenant et dont j’adore l’univers artistique. Un jour, prise par un élan de “qui ne tente rien, n’à rien”, je l’ai contacté pour lui proposer une collab. Quelques semaines plus tard, je recevais un carton plein de tote bags et torchons floqués de ces illustrations naïvement provocantes, et dont la sélection reçue tournait clairement autour de l’amour et du couple. OOTD. This is the #helenawrapdress by @just_patterns I made this in February last year and have worn it heaps - in summer like this, in winter with a white long sleeve top underneath. The contrast waist and sleeve trim is from a second hand kimono I bought years ago and the purple linen is deadstock from @wearethefabricstore (a colour called buddleia). Pattern: #helenawrapdress. I made the #helenawrapdress over a year ago. Designed by @sewingtidbits @just_patterns I wear it as a tunic, knee length. I omitted the pockets since the fabric is a cotton jersey. I was afraid I wouldn’t be able to make them look nice. I miss the pockets but I am happy with the garment. It serves me well and I always feel well dressed in it. Fantastic Frock Friday Happy 1st Friday of the New Year. I made this Fantastic Frock for #brisanefrocktails2023 but didn't get around to walking Beau while wearing it until this year. Tossed up whether to do the #makenine2024 challenge as my 2023 effort was only just a pass (swipe to see four unmade fabrics). But I gave a lot of purchased patterns that I would love to make and often they get pushed aside for shiny new ones. So I am challenging myself to make the patterns I have in line with the #sewwhatihave2024 challenge by @poplinpeony and @timetosew and ALSO use stash fabrics to make them. The patterns are: 1. #vikisews_heidi in a fun print fabric. Will I wear it? Probably not often but it looks fun to make:) 2. #fibremoodzahia but as a jacket instead of the dress. Maybe denim or corduroy? 3. #fibremoodberyl … mostly because Beryl is my mums name which never gets featured! Although I found chocolates with her name on this Christmas! 4. #tudorblouse in the button version in a ditsy floral. 5. #vikisews_sharon. I think this will suit me. Not sure what fabric yet.. 6. #harlowdress @stitchwitchpatterns which has really interesting style lines. Was debating trying this in a stable knit and eliminating the zip. 7. #vikisews_audrey which I have a wool fabric or a jacquard to make a wintery version to wear as a pinafore style dress. 8. #fibremoodflavia in a cotton velvet or a wool version 9. #helenawrapdress which was one of the first patterns I bought. Toiled the top and was on the fence but have since seen lovely versions in flowy fabrics so plan to make a colour blocked version in red and pink. I got this #s1108 pattern from one of the sewing magazines and thought it would be useful at some point. This year I don't have much time to sew, so I decided this velvet green version would do up all outfits to make them more festive! It had it's first outing on Friday for the family Xmas meal. Voici ma version de la robe portefeuille kimono Helena. Je l'ai rallongée de 29cm. J'ai préféré la version des poches cachées plutôt que poches plaquées. J'aurais pu la finir bien plus tôt mais je n'ai absolument plus le temps. Je vais peut-être mettre un petit top bretelles spaghetti dessous car en m'asseyant sur le canapé je m'aperçois que le décolleté s'ouvre 🙈🙈 Tout tombe bien. J'ai relu plusieurs passages plusieurs fois mais en prenant son temps, l'assemblage n'est pas si compliqué au final. Si c'était à refaire, je choisirais un tissu fluide pour donner un autre style. I am ready for @nycfrocktails! Felt like I was planning for a wedding or something! Got a blow out, a silver manicure, and painted my toes silver to match my leather clutch 😉 Dress: #helenawrapdress by @just_patterns in duppioni silk. My friend @mrsmyang gifted me 7 yards of this gorgeous silk fabric leftover from her bridesmaids’ dresses. I made a muslin first in size 36 to 40. When I tried on the silk dress, the skirt was too poufy because the fabric is stiff. I took in 6” in circumference in the skirt. Bag: #archclutch formerly known as the #idaclutch from @kylieandthemachine. I have been wanting to make this bag since 2018, and NYCfrocktails was the excuse! I chose silver metallic leather from @global_leathers_nyc and zipper and notions from @pacifictrimming. I found a small piece in the scrap pile for $20. One of the first finished projects after having a baby 🥰 I just really wanted to sew something I was excited about, even though I don’t have a specific occasion to wear this dress 🤷🏼♀️. The @just_patterns #helenawrapdress has so many beautiful details, was very interesting to sew and the result is super elegant in my opinion. The fabric is deadstock viscose linen in a rose color from @bara_studio it has a beautiful rose color and interesting texture. I made a size 40 at the top and 42 from the waist down with no alterations. The fit is just perfect 👌🏻

Kiedy zobaczyłam rolkę z szycia #beachcoverup od @yoursara_k i @cbclife coś od razu kliknęło. Takiej inspiracji potrzebowałam! W szafie od dawna zalegał kawałek tkaniny w paski, kupiony na promocji, czyli bez planu i do tego końcówka belki, czyli ilość taka nie wiadomo na co... znacie to, prawda? Sprawdziłam w historii i to było dokładnie 7 września 2022 r., czyli materiał doczekał swojej rocznicy zakupu nim go zużyłam. Chomikowanie to wciąż moja zmora, ale walczę z tym 🙈 Jeśli chodzi o tę sukienkę, która może pełnić rolę narzutki/pareo plażowego to instrukcja jest super prosta, bo szyje się ją z 5 prostokątów. Wszystkie wymiary można dowolnie zmodyfikować. Wyglądem ta sukienka przypomina mi uproszczoną wersję ukochanej Heleny #helenawrapdress i chyba tym mnie skusiła najbardziej. Zdecydowałam się na wersję maxi, więc dla mnie był to w zasadzie projekt zerowaste - został mi dosłownie wąski paseczek tej tkaniny. Jeszcze nie wyszła z domu, więc testy przede mną, ale efekt końcowy bardzo mi się podoba 😉 Ps. This is my #helenawrapdress from @just_patterns, absolutely copied from one of the example dresses in the pattern presentation. The fabric is a pretty stiff linen from @pa_skra and it holds the structure of the dress very well, even after being washed a couple of times. This is a bit of an experiment, since the stripes are actually going the "wrong" way in the fabric, so all the pieces are cut perpendicular to what they are supposed to be. Amidst the baby haze and third heat wave I sewed up this outfit for my 36th birthday. I knew I wanted to make two pieces from this linen and that one would be #pomonapants , but I struggled to come up with a top that wouldn’t scream pajamas. Enter the blouse-only version of the #helenawrapdress aka the #helenawraptop , which I have admired since seeing @stylesinseams bright yellow version! She also has a blog post about how to do it which is super useful, especially if you’re tall. 🍏🖤🍏the details 🍏🖤🍏 - Linen purchased from @ab_linas_ during my trip to Lithuania - My current measurements are something like 42/35/47 - Pomona pants by @annaallenclothing size 14, only mod was adding length at the legs - Helena wrap top by @just_patterns size 48, no mods! I previously sewed the dress in a 44 before pregnancy body changes and I must say the 48 is a much better bust fit as it is drafted for a D-cup! - there is a video at the end to show the fit a bit better! 🖤🍏🖤🍏🖤 P.S. my brother got me a little phone tripod so that I wouldn’t miss his photography skills too much and it’s a little embarrassing out in the world but so so much more effective

It started with a pillow. One year ago I went to Intro to Sewing with @cutandsewstudio and it was all over from there 🤣. I’ve come to really love sewing, which I never thought I’d say. I thought it was boring, fussy, and clothes would be too twee and/or not fit me. Annnnd I was completely wrong. It’s great to have something that stimulates my brain and keeps my hands busy that isn’t a screen. I can actually celebrate my body and make beautiful things for it. Being able to customize things to make it easier to wear my medical devices has been a life changer. And it still brings me such joy to whip something off the machine and put it on. I still love the “thanks, I made it 🤩!” Moment. And I can’t wait to have many more.
