Zavelsteiner Krokusblüte - Zavelstein crocus blooming 🟣At the beginning of March the crocusses in the town of Bad Teinach-Zavelstein in the Black Forest start blooming. Right now (3/2/24), they will need a little more sun and warmth to reach full bloom, but you can already pay them a visit in the nature reserve "Zavelsteiner Krokuswiesen" (Zavelstein crocus meadows). 🟣The crocusses in Zavelstein are "Wildkrokusse" (wild crocus) which means they bloom relatively early in the year, have smaller blossoms and should therefore be planted in large groups. They are originally from the Mediterranean and are (or were) somewhat rare north of the Alps. 🟣How did the wild crocuses come from the Mediterranean to Zavelstein? The most probable explanation is that the local Lord Benjamin Buwinghausen brought them back with him from his travels to plant them in the gardens around his castle. This was around 1620. Seeds of the crocuses made their way into the animal feed and those seeds were excreted by the animals and spread around the area. 🟣Tours offered on Sat. 3/9, Wed 3/13, Sat 3/23 at 2pm. Sarah came to Australia from Germany six years ago knowing hardly anyone. Through her kids school, she has made a close tribe of amazing friends, and for her birthday, they commissioned her a painting. Münster Market in front of the Dom last Wednesday This is a must for me, whenever I am visiting this pretty city. I love to look at all the pretty flower stalls. If I would live there, I couldn’t resist to take one or two of these pretty very reasonable prized floral creations home. @blumen_wermelt is only one of the most beautiful displays with beautiful bunches and stunnning flowers. I always feel the urge to capture them with my photos as a keepsake. Thank you to all the traders who work so hard all year around even under harsh weather conditions. Last Wednesday it was 30 degrees, not a pleasant weather for the staff and of course for their fresh flowers. Münster Wochenmarkt vor dem Dom am letzten Mittwoch Dieser Besuch des Markets in Münster gehört einfach für mich dazu, wenn ich in Münster bin. Ich kann mich garnicht sattsehen an all den wunderschönen Blumenständen. Ich würde mir immer ein oder zwei Sträusse mitnehmen, wenn ich dort leben würde und könnte der Verführung der wunderschön arrangierten günstigen floralen Kreationen nicht widerstehen. Auf jeden Fall nehme ich sie durch meine Fotos als Erinnerungen mit. Danke an alle Blumenhändler, denn es ist schon ein harter Job bei Wind und Wetter, die Stände aufzubauen. The Lily of the Valley blooms from March until June, its blooms are white and little while its berries are red. Every part of the flower is poisonous but especially the blooms and berries. You might develop skin rashes when touching it, and if any 𝗠𝗮𝗶𝗴𝗹𝗼̈𝗰𝗸𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗻 part gets inside you it can cause nausea, diarrhea, heart arrhythmia, vertigo, and tightness in your chest. Often, the Lily of the Valley gets mistaken for 𝗕𝗮̈𝗿𝗹𝗮𝘂𝗰𝗵 (bear’s garlic) whose leaves look very similar. When you rub a Bärlauch leaf you will be able to detect a garlic smell that a 𝗠𝗮𝗶𝗴𝗹𝗼̈𝗰𝗸𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗻 doesn’t have. Bärlauch is used in pestos and sauces, and grows mostly in the more Southern regions of Germany. Even though the Lily of the Valley is poisonous it was used for medicinal purposes. It probably depends on the dosage as with many herbs. As early as the 15th century, distilled 𝗠𝗮𝗶𝗴𝗹𝗼̈𝗰𝗸𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗻 water is mentioned to be good for the heart and all other organs, to help against menstrual pains, paralysis from a stroke, skin problems, and other afflictions. Nowadays, 𝗠𝗮𝗶𝗴𝗹𝗼̈𝗰𝗸𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗻 are often used to make oil and add it to perfume. In religious iconography, the 𝗠𝗮𝗶𝗴𝗹𝗼̈𝗰𝗸𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗻, along with the rose, lily and other flowers, are so-called 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗯𝗹𝘂𝗺𝗲𝗻, Mary’s flowers. The lily of the valley stands for the chaste love, humility, and modesty of Mary. Fun Fact: The 𝗠𝗮𝗶𝗴𝗹𝗼̈𝗰𝗸𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗻 was the poisonous plant of the year 2014. This one was not my cup of tea which is probably why I’m also late 😅 the schlüsselblume, aka cow’slip aka ciuboțica cucului which is the romanian name for this flower and the trabslation of it to english is funny AF - it’s called the cuckoo’s boot 😂😂😂anyhoo, the flower itself is cute and I owe it an appology 😥 that’s all I’m gonna say about this 😒 As always, much love to the wonderful hosts @alohawatercolors / @thealohastudios and her guest, @thepaintboxletters ❤️ Now, the palette this month is made out of very specific kinda colours, but my challange was to find among my colours stuff to combine to come as close as possible.
