Here come some very, very early works! I did these charcoal drawings ( charcoal on paper, from 100x70cm to 120x80cm ) during my year in Rome 2006/07. The strange atmosphere of the Colli Albani Mountains which I could explore during adventurous hiking trips has been the source for this series. This is the largest work of the new Ecuador series, measuring 230 x 150cm, almost the largest scale I can manage to get out of my studio door. It‘s called „Piranesis Garten“ which refers to Carceri series of this great italian artist. The forest in Ecuador often reminded me of those architectural projections but just in the shape of vegetation. But the rider is taken from the castle of Dresden( where I live) which contains a huge collection of the kings. Here comes „Lagune“( 2023, pastel on coated board, 100 x 150cm). It combines different sources, as a start the marvelous sunsets at the Cuayabeno Laguna, those enriched with images from sun proturberances, weird cloud images and so on… To me it contains a lot of music. I must confess I am a huge fan of the Austrian composer Bruckner and his mountains of sound. On the other hand I love bands like Radiohead, Interpol, Tocotronic or the Marsvolta.
