This one always bugged me, something about the unhinged jaw just creeped me out as a kid, and continues to do so even now. That said, I'm still really happy to have the Fright Features Ghostbusters *mostly* complete (Where's my Janine, Hasbro?), Winston looks really good alongside the others. The ghost, Scream Roller, is another great pack-in, able to do one of my favourite things, sit on Winston's head! Even has space for the eyes to see out of the ghost's mouth. And that's the Fright Features Ghostbusters, unless they finally decide to reissue Janine, of course. Toy Of The Day Episode 475 The Real Ghostbusters: Kenner Classics - Fright Features Egon Spengler & Soar Throat Ghost For our second look at the Kenner Classics Fright Features figures, we get my all-time favourite of the bunch, Dr. Egon Spengler. Something about the tie (why is he wearing a tie while busting ghosts?) flipping up as part of the action feature just did it for me as a kid. I had a zip up leather (or leather-like material) tie I used to wear as a kid that I would hold out in front of me as though I were recreating that gimmick... for reasons... Look, I wanted to be a Ghostbuster so bad I'd take anything even remotely similar... And after several decades I've finally got the gear, so it all paid off, right? Anyway, back to the toy, the tie was always the first thing to break on the vintage figure. Seriously, like you don't know how many I've seen at toy shows, swap meets, and especially at work that have had it snapped off, so it's really nice to finally have one in my collection with an intact tie, regardless of whether it's a reissue or not. Egon comes packed with the Soar Throat Ghost, and his signature weapon, the Terror Tweezer, that can clamp around the ghost's neck for entrapment. I've got two more Ghostbusters to get through in this line, and we've still yet to look at my favourite pack-in ghost from the series, so keep checking back. He was the last 1 out of the 4 I needed to complete the set!! May the REAL Ghostbusters keep going strong! This was dope to find when I least expected it at a Target by Lincoln Center, NYC where they rarely have good stuff or much of anything in stock. It was literally just a couple of days after I watched the new movie Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire which had the original cast(minus Egon RIP) in all its throwback glory! This Fright Features series really struck a cord with me being a fan of the original toys and movie from the 80’s which was the best decade of all time for toys and their tie in cartoons and blockbuster films that accompanied them. Man those were amazingly good times! It’s not just Easter; it’s also the last day of the month! And wrapping up the Ghostbusters half of the theme is Phoebe Spengler! I was pretty excited for this one, not just because Phoebe is basically the new star of the franchise, but also because this is the first version of her I’ve had in toy form! Yep, I never found her last Fright Features figure, and I never got around to picking up the Plasma Series 2-pack with Egon’s spirit. I’m still kicking myself over that. I didn’t get either of her Pops either. I like that they gave her an all new sculpt this time, since she’s clearly grown up a lot since the last movie. Trevor looks pretty much the same, but I’m still miffed they just reused his old figure. They could’ve at least given him new arms with unrolled sleeves or something! Anyway, Phoebe uses the same body sculpt as her mom Callie, but Phoebe’s neck looks a bit long. Not a huge deal, since she IS a Spengler! It’s worth noting though. I’m just happy to finally have a figure of her! She comes with Bonesy, who I think is in the movie. I mean, he must be; all the other ghosts in this wave are in the movie. If he’s who I think he is, he’s A LOT freakier onscreen! He’s got sharp teeth, and there’s nothing remotely cute about him. He actually reminds me of the Bad-To-The-Bone Ghost from the old Kenner line. I thought he might’ve been inspired by that toy, but again, if this is who I think it is in the movie… well, he’s his own thing. I never did find Lucky or Podcast from this line, but it’s Phoebe who really makes things feel complete. I had to include a group shot of all my Fright Features figures at the end here! I kinda wish they all had different coloured jumpsuits like in “The Real Ghostbusters”, just for variety, but this is a still a nice looking group! Thanks as always to everyone who followed my posts all month. I’ll probably wait another week or so to share my review of “Frozen Empire”. And I miiiight have a bonus Godzilla post, just for fun….

My Ghostbusters watch-through was in a really weird order this year. I started with the first movie, then watched “Answer the Call”, “Afterlife”, “Frozen Empire”, and finally “Ghostbusters 2”. It wasn’t planned that way, but it was nice ending with all the Ghostbusters together again. Anyway, here’s more Fright Features Egon pics that didn’t fit in the last post. I’ve compared him (and Soar Throat) with the originals, and the ghosts look pretty different! The older Egon’s colours look muted by age. The new one is so crisp and bright! But the ghosts aren’t the same colour or even finish! This original is purple and more transparent. I don’t think you can blame that on age! Apparently Soar Throat Ghost appeared in the comics, where it’s a benign ghost used for training new recruits. How ironic that Hasbro featured this series on Instagram today, when I planned on doing the same. Well, one of them, anyway. Kinda weird that they’re posting them now when they’ve been out for weeks. I had Fright Features Egon as a kid, and I remember using him often enough, but he was usually more of a victim in whatever I was playing than a hero. And of course his tie eventually broke off! But when Hasbro revealed they were rereleasing this figure (the first time), I knew I’d HAVE to get him! Maybe I’m just sentimental (ok, we all know I am!), but now that Egon is no longer with us, I find it makes all of his figures more special to me. Same with anything he does or says in the movies, shows, and video games. That doesn’t happen with every character who dies! I guess there’s just something special about Egon. Actually, I think I might know what it is. Ghostbusters isn’t one of those properties where you expect characters to be killed off. And I’m sure if Harold Ramis were still with us, Egon would be too. But they had to acknowledge Harold’s death, which meant Egon had to die too. It’s understandable, but it hits different than in, say, Star Wars, where characters die all the time. Plus, I really wanted this figure with his tie intact! My childhood one is long gone, but I got another one in that box of free Ghostbusters toys I’ve mentioned a few times this month. And his tie was intact! Mostly. It’s cracked, and it won’t take much to break. I was wondering how I would fix it, but now I don’t have to! Speaking of which, I was really hoping Hasbro would’ve made the tie more durable this time, but that doesn’t seem to be the case. It feels exactly like the original, and it’ll probably break just as easily. Missed opportunities aren’t uncommon in the toy world, but this feels like a big one! Oh well. I’m just happy to have a pristine version of this figure again! I don’t care that he’s a remake! And I can’t forget about Soar Throat Ghost! Every single one of these old ghosts is a classic, but this one is like a CLASSIC classic! I think I played with this ghost more than Egon!

Today is the day! “Frozen Empire” day! I’ve got my tickets, seats are reserved, and now all I have to do is wait. No big deal. I’ve been waiting since 2021. What’s a few more hours? I’m so excited!!! Anyway, enough about Ghostbusters. Let’s talk about Ghostbusters! This time, Gary Grooberson actually gets to be a Ghostbuster! When the cast of “Afterlife” was announced, I was like, “Oh! Paul Rudd would make an awesome Ghostbuster!”. And then he wasn’t. They said kids were going to be the Ghostbusters. I was like, “Whaaaaaat”? But then it turned out ok. It fit the story Afterlife was telling. Even Podcast, who looked WAY too young to be a Ghostbuster, ended up being pretty great. He was like a mini Ray! But now Grooberson gets to be a Ghostbuster too, and all is right in the world. He’s even got the weird name for it! All the Ghostbusters have pretty weird names: Venkman. Stantz. Spengler. Zeddemore. And now Grooberson. He fits right in! I’m glad he’s getting a figure too, though this one really makes me wish the Plasma Collection had returned. Because it’s cool that I can add him to my collection of Fright Features figures, but you can’t say he looks like Paul Rudd. Like, at all. The Fright Features line was always more cartoony, so at least he has that going for him, but you can still tell who everyone else is at a glance. With this one, I suppose the stubble helps, but let’s just say he’s lucky he has his name tag. Grooberson comes the usual proton pack, and Pukey. I LOVE Pukey! I have no idea how large or small his role is gonna be, but I just love this ghost’s design! I assume he’s the Slimer or Muncher of the movie. Now I’m wishing “Ghostbusters 2” had its own ghost like this, instead of just reusing Slimer again. What should these ghosts even be called? Mascot ghosts? I mean, Stay Puft and the Mini Pufts kinda count too, but I feel like these ones best represent each movie they come from. I guess I’ll know how well Pukey fits the bill later today. Anyway, I feel like Pukey is more fun to mess around with than Callie’s Possessor Ghost. The way he fits Grooberson like a mask reminds me a lot of the old ghosts packed in with the Kenner figures!
