Latest embroidery piece completed whilst I recover from knee surgery. This one is a lovely warratah , the kit was from @kmartaus last years craft catalogue. This took roughly 12 hrs... I love the colour combo with this design, it's going to be hung in my bedroom I think. This type of craft is very soothing for my overstimulated brain, it keeps me from spiralling from 'with if' thoughts and off digital platforms for periods of time - nice digital cleanse!

A close-up of new artwork underway, this one is for an exhibition coming up at the end of term. I love the smaller 9x5 on panel board, a lovely texture can be created with the acrylic sitting nicely on the surface and not sinking into the canvas.
Completed my first landscape acrylic painting this week (took most of a semester to complete). This was a challenge!!! Switching from soft pastel to paint and only using the core primary colours to mix every shade used on this piece. I learnt new techniques, the importance of colour balance, layering, and painting fast because acrylic dries super quick! There was cursing, moments of nearly throwing in the towel and switching back to what was comfortable, but I pushed through... and now I actually enjoy this medium! Two new smaller pieces are now my next focus for an upcoming exhibition.
So this acrylic painting is nearly done... I have to rough up the rocks a little and add some trees to the left, but the water, sky, clouds and mountains are finished. I'm pleased with my first acrylic artwork in 10 years... but I can't wait to see the end of this... I'm keen to start something new!
Up early before half the population heads to the beach, my husband and I volunteered with Seaford Beach Patrol 3198 to pick up rubbish along the beach ... weirdest finds today? A pair of old glasses and plastic wrappers from the 80s. I enjoy painting my local beaches, and want to help them stay clean! Do your bit and take your rubbish home with you and dispose of plastics responsively!

I've been a lil' bit quiet of late... I've been exploring acrylic painting! There hasn't been much to share up until now as I've been learning the basics of blending and how different primary colours and their hues mix. So this thing is happening. My heart says YES, my soul knows, my mind… it’s still catching up. Colour and Flow’s (my) first solo exhibition this Nov/Dec/Jan at @the_fac Mezzanine!! It goes something like… ‘Frankston based artist Rebecca Abbeys creative journey began as personal catharsis, grieving the passing of her dad during lockdown, trying to make sense of things. What unravelled was an inward spiritual journey resulting in therapeutic creative exchanges and underpinned by her passion for and multidisciplinary studies in colour, vibrant healing energy infused artworks. Rebecca’s first solo exhibition, Colour And Flow, is a spirited love letter to her community, an engaging expression of renewal, expansion, and transformation.’ There will be some of my earlier works through to very current works, some are my soul treasures or already sold (🙏) but lots are for sale, and all are for your viewing pleasure/therapeutic interaction. If you haven’t been following me for long you may not know that alongside Colour Therapy, I also have qualifications in Colour Design, and for a time, fan decks were my trusty work companion on the daily. These little Barn Owl beauties are based and illustrated from photos I took whilst visiting @moonlitsanctuary in Pearcedale. I adore owls, and this is my first completed piece on these majestic creatures. Illustrated using watercolour, and just a touch of 0.2 fineliner on Art Spectrum archival quality rough watercolour paper. The photo doesn't pick up on the different layers of fine colour.
