We were honored to have been a part of this amazing project in 2023, which was the first ADA, fully accessible playground in the county. The playground is located at 16387 Blountstown Highway in Tallahassee, Florida. It features a variety of equipment, including swings, slides, a climbing structure, and a sand play area. It's open to the public from sunrise to sunset. If you haven't seen the new Fort Braden Playground yet, we invite you to go and check it out! It's a great place for kids of all ages to have fun and get some exercise. Smoothie time! 😋 During the last week of school, Fort Braden Elementary School students participated in one last #FarmToFort taste test and sampled a Blueberry Orange Whirl Smoothie. 🍊🫐 True to the #FarmToSchool mission of bringing local, fresh foods to students, this recipe featured blueberries from Jubilee Orchards and orange juice from @floridageorgiacitrus! Over the weekend, Florida Impact partnered with students from @fsu_esp and FSU Garden Club to plant fruit-bearing trees and shrubs at Fort Braden Elementary School! 🍊🫐 As they grow, the plants will provide some shade in the outdoor courtyard and offer students an outlet for learning about horticulture. Farm to Fort Update! 🥕📚 Our Outreach and Advocacy Manager Kelli recently organized a lunch and learn with teachers at Fort Braden in Tallahassee. The discussion focused on Farm to School activities and ideas that educators can incorporate into the remaining part of the school year. They were joined by Daniel from @legacygreens3 who brought microgreen grow kits for teachers to try out in order to get an idea of what it would be like to use them in the classroom. 🌱 Teachers were very excited about using the grow kits with students and interested in creating a Fort Braden recipe book with student recipe submissions. They will be helping Florida Impact staff and partners bring fresh, local foods to students at Fort Braden Elementary School. 📚🍎🥕🥬 Kaley (Left) is a senior at Florida State University studying Dietetics. She's passionate about farm-to-school because it implements nutrition education for younger generations while introducing them to local, nutritious foods they may not have tried before. She can't wait to introduce fun foods to students that they can make at home, and work alongside others who are passionate about food and agriculture. Isabella (Right) also attends Florida State University where she studies Dietetics and Child Development. Through her volunteering, she has seen the great need there is for nutrition education and access to fresh produce in Tallahassee. Community nutrition is a huge passion of hers, especially involving work with kids and the correlation between food security and academic success. She's most looking forward to the hands on work with the students and community members of Fort Braden.
