🎬 Film Review 🇰🇷 Title: Citizen of a Kind Director: Park Young-ju Genre: Action | Comedy | Drama Cast: Ra Mi-ran, Gong Myong, Park Byeong-eun, Yeom Hye-ran, Ahn Eun-jin, Jang Yoon-ju Rating: ★★★★★ After a fire destroys her laundry store, single mother Deok-hee is tricked by a voice phishing scheme, and she sets about investigating the case for herself. Citizen of a Kind is a great example of authentic storytelling. While the characters embark on what initially might appear to be an unlikely quest, the performances and the interesting mix of real-life, friendship, understanding, action and humour make this a wonderful film that everyone can enjoy. 🎬 Film Review 🇨🇳 Title: You Only Live Once (“YOLO”) Director: Jia Ling Genre: Comedy | Drama | Sport Cast: Jia Ling, Lei Jiayin, Yang Zi, Xiaofei Zhang, Lu Xueqin, Sha Yi, Lee Kwok-lun, Xu Jun Cong Rating: ★★★★ YOLO is a great film for those feeling a little flat and seeking a source of inspiration. Whilst Leying’s physical transformation of something to celebrate, it is her internal transformation that is really poignant. In the end, the outcome of the boxing match itself is largely irrelevant. The film presents a new definition of success: Leying won by finding a purpose, finding her way, and choosing to become the best version of herself. 🎬 Film Review 🇰🇷 Title: Ransomed Director: Kim Seong-hun Genre: Action | Comedy | Thriller Cast: Ha Jung-woo, Ju Ji-hoon, Fehd Benchesmi, Burn Gorman, Park Hyuk-kwon Rating: ★★★★ A young diplomat is assigned the task of carrying ransom money to rescue an abducted diplomat in Lebanon, and a local taxi driver accidentally gets involved in the mission. As the rescue mission turns into an international incident, this well-paced, engaging film is full of tense car chases and shoot-outs that fortunately do not stretch the bounds of plausibility too far. Ransomed is a wonderful blend of comedy and action thriller that captivates the audience's attention and keeps them sitting on the edge of their seats. NEW INTERVIEW ALERT: In Conversation with Kim Hong-joon, Director of Korean Film Archive @koreanfilmarchive The theme of the Far East Film Festival’s (@fareastfilm) retrospective program this year was “Saving the Past: 50/50: Celebrating 50 Years of Korean Film Preservation” and it was focused on a tumultuous yet pivotal decade for Korean cinema. The 1950s were a time of great upheaval and these films – restored under the direction of the Korean Film Archive – were thoughtfully curated to capture the cinematic essence of that era for the international audience gathered for FEFF in the north of Italy. In commemoration of this historic restoration effort, but also to have a more in-depth conversation about film preservation and curation in general, we had the opportunity to speak with Kim Hong-joon, the director of the Korean Film Archives. It is important to know that from 2000 to 2005, Hong-Joon Kim served as the Festival Director of the Puchon International Fantastic Film Festival and Commissioner of the Korean Film Council. Among his published works are “I, a Filmmaker: Kim Hong-Joon’s Film Notes” and “Two or Three Things You Want to Know About Movies”. Kim is acclaimed as a director and screenwriter, contributing to films such as “Jungle Story” and “La Vie En Rose”. He has also been involved in the Korean Classical Cinema Special television series as a host and co-writer. FAR EAST TRASHY REVIEWS - PART 2/4 [ITA] Ed ecco le recensioni dei 39 film visti in 6 giorni di fuoco al @fareastfilm . Le ho scritte sui biglietti che davano per far votare il film al pubblico. Da una parte del biglietto c'è il voto, dall'altra una opinione superbreve (che può essere una frase demente o una recensione quasi sensata). Il 39esimo film sarebbe The Gift, il film muto con Eiko Ishibashi dal vivo a farne la colonna sonora. Per esso non venivano dati biglietti, ma l'esperienza meritava sicuramente un 5/5! La sigla presente in tutti i ticket è l'acronimo di "al Far East Film Festival non si possono dare voti inferiori al 3.5/5". Come spiegato nel biglietto di Dust to Dust, comprendo il punto di vista per cui il rispetto si mostra anche dando voti bassi quando meritati, ma per me, per il semplice fatto di partecipare al sogno collettivo del FEFF, tutti i film meritano più della sufficienza. ============================== [ENG] (Sorry for them being written in italian only, but at least you can see in the top pictures the votes i have assigned). Non avevamo mai visto Their Last Love Affair di LEE Myung-se (regista coreano di classici come il più noto Nowhere to Hide ) e siamo riusciti grazie al #FEFF26. E' la cosa più affascinante vista al @fareastfilm festival nella sala dove erano accolti i film belli. Ogni singola inquadratura e non stiamo esagerando, ogni singola inquadratura, ogni raccordo è un'invenzione tecnica e stilistica, una cosa che non ci si crede. Senza effetti e interventi posticci, ogni taglio di montaggio porta ad una nuova opera dell'ingegno, dall'inizio alla fine tale da farlo assomigliare alle tavole del Kamimura più inventivo e sperimentale. It's been 5 days since the conclusion of #FEFF26, and at last, I have the chance to reflect on the winning films with a clear mind. I'm thrilled that #CONFETTI, the debut feature film by Japanese director Fujita Naoya, secured the MULBERRY AUDIENCE AWARDS 2024 - Second place. Personally, I believe it deserved even greater recognition! Coming-of-age films represent a timeless genre, yet not all manage to capture the essence as splendidly as CONFETTI. It's refreshing, subtle, amusing, and never preachy. It doesn't feel the need to spell things out because, in life, experiences are lived and felt rather than explained. Moreover, the narrative provides an insight into taishu engeki (popular theater), seamlessly intertwining with the pop culture of Idol Bands! Congratulations to Fujita Naoya; I eagerly anticipate your future endeavors in cinema!

Brevi sulla mia esperienza di quest anno al Far East Film Festival di Udine. Allego anche una cosa importante: la foto del mio bagno preferito, quello al primo piano, alla Galleria 1. A breve recensioni stupide e velocissime sui 39 film. NOTA: Non è che non ho mangiato buon cibo, è che, per vedere tutto, il mondo è diventato una bellissima frenesia cinematografica, e il mangiare tranquilli è stato sacrificato (non è una critica al festival). Quick notes on my experience at this year's Far East Film Festival. I also attach a very important thing: the photo of my favorite bathroom in the theatre, on the first floor. Stupid quick reviews of the 39 movies in the next days. 26th FAR EAST FILM FESTIVAL (@fareastfilm): In Conversation with Yeon Je-gwang, Lee Ju-seung and Jeong Soo-gyo of “The Guest” “The Guest”, written and directed by Yeon Je-gwang, presents a dark and gritty portrayal of a secluded love motel, where hidden cameras capture the most intimate moments of its guests. As two employees, Min-cheol (Lee Ju-seung: “Socialphobia”, “Broken”) and Young-gyu (Han Min: Joseon Attorney: “A Morality”, “You Are My Spring”), find themselves embroiled in a moral dilemma, the film depicts themes of voyeurism, exploitation, and societal inequality. Yeon adeptly maintains a relentless pace and spine-chilling atmosphere throughout the film, and with a small cast, also including the superb Jeong Soo-gyo (“The Golden Spoon”, “Tale of the Nine-Tailed 1938”) and Oh Hye-won (“ #Alive”, “The Killer’s Shopping List”), and modern technology at its disposal, the film goes into dark territory, delivering over 70 minutes of tension that will leave viewers feeling unsettled for a while.
