Another fantastic ‘Elephant in the Room’ event was hosted in the square on Sunday April 21st. A big thank you to @curikoexperience who ran the event in Leg and Boot Square and of course thank you to everyone who turned out and had an interesting conversation! Did you see an elephant in the square? 🐘 If you walked by Leg in Boot Square on March 24th, which turned out to be a lovely sunny Sunday, you might have wondered what was going on. 🧐 Hosted by @curikoexperience, the “Elephant in the Room” event aimed to make it a little less scary to talk to strangers about our differences. Participants started by identifying their level of comfort: 🪰A fly on the wall just wanted to listen, 🐭 A mouse was interested in simple subjects, 🐈 A cat was willing to get a little more involved, 🐅 A tiger was willing to take on anything. Paired with a stranger desiring a similar level of engagement, participants were given several questions. For example- for mice: Should pineapple be allowed on pizza? For cats: Is Vancouver a lonely city? For tigers: Is colonialism a thing of the past or does it exist in Canada? Should borders be open to everybody? The objective was to find something you and the stranger disagreed on and engage in conversation to explore your differences. Curiosity guidelines (e.g. balance your talking and listening) were offered to encourage empathetic and engaging conversations, all whilst the elephants were standing by to facilitate if things got heated or challenging. And for those that participated, @curikoexperience provided some of our tasty Convival Cafe treats 😋 Intrigued?
