Another technical carbon product came in from Germany last week. This is the rear V chassis brace that connects the subframe to the chassis. The OEM commonly rusts, it presents an opportunity to increase this reinforcement’s rigidity by 15%, and lower weight by +/- 5 lbs. Various tests were performed to isolate the right adhesives and carbon tube strength required. I will be publishing an entry on the development and specs shortly at Euroconnex.co for the introductory launch. This E46 M3 will be the end of me […] nah. The bum induced delay is giving me the opportunity to revisit key components of the Phoenix’s build. To begin with: the CSL airbox. I opted for the @karbonius 1:1 replica with their carbon snorkel. This is the 3rd and final CSL airbox that I will document on this car. My unboxing entry will be released this week. I’ll take the opportunity to highlight the little things that set the Spaniards apart. The front end of the E60 was feeling wobbly since fitting the BBS Summer package. Turns out it wasn’t all in my head. The alignment went out of spec, specifically with considerable toe out. I caught the inner tires eaten alive during OCD therapy washing the barrels. Front PSS were replaced with PS4S and it got on the rack to be put back to mild street specs. We added toe in at the rear in consideration of the extra power.

Currently working on the reel / youtube following this weekend’s night ride. The real world GPS results matched what we hit on the dyno, yet there’s still considerable performance to be tapped into with more revs, and later on, shorter gears. Season opener with @514_bimmers, and caught up with @ax_beliveau and his E46 M3. Absolutely mint example of an E46. The lengths at which the previous owner and himself went to upgrade and restore this car is second to none. Quality CSL inspired parts all around, complete PPF, fully detailed, and Imola Red no less! The interior also features the carbon interior trims from @euro.connex - it’s always going to feel a bit surreal and privileged seeing my products on cars in the flesh. Yet we joked around, there’s always going to be “E46 things” - the previously restored A pillars are sagging again 😂 It was great catching up with everyone at the meet, here’s to another great season. This is the 7th trip to the alignment rack since I've started exploring kinematics. It's a fun, complex, awfully expensive learning process. We dial'ed in the front with the latest Clubsport adjustable front thrust arms. This is a street oriented alignment, finding the balance between subjective feel, objective performance, tire wear and wheel & tire fitment requirements. We got caster to 9.0 degrees purely playing with the new adjustable arm. It would go up to 10.5 degrees max, however the front fenders would have been at risk at the current ride height and wheel specs. The rear was simply corrected for slight play. The camber is needed to safely clear the fenders with the 19x11+25 and its 295. Car feels amazing. I need to drive more with the increased 2.0 degrees of caster over stock. I'm genuinely excited to learn from qualified individuals and share this knowledge over this Summer. We completed the front end schematics of the M3 V8 with the replacement of the last OEM arm on the front suspension with a spherical, fully adjustable unit. The first pictures compare the original arm with the sealed ball joint pressed into the subframe side. This is commonly known as the thrust arm; it takes a beating on braking due to the front engine configuration, and the classic BMW front & rear rake, amongst other things. Replacing it with an adjustable unit has a few benefits: We can now fully adjust caster without resorting to top mount adjustments. Swipe all the way to the right to see the effects on the lift. It also comes with 2x anti-dive correction spacers to be positioned above, or below the knuckle depending on your needs. The adjustable arm is also lighter, and stronger than stock. It matters as all arms are considered partially unsprung weight and some owners snapped OEM thrust arms on track. Additionally, the previous OE+ monoball thrust arms still retained the knuckle side rubber bushings: some deflection was still happening. The adjustable units have spherical joints on both ends. The S65-EVO is dyno ready ✔️ —- After various road tuning sessions, we’ve logged and compiled data, starting from a blank canvas to optimize for the high duration cams. We adjusted VANOS transitions, intake & exhaust camshaft overlap settings across the entire RPM range. We fiddled with idle for chop, and will continue to fiddle with it some more for S65s fitted with lightweight flywheels. I will touch on the fundamentals of these variables in future entries at @euro.connex The upcoming dyno tuning sessions at @dmperformance_ will allow us to precisely dial in what has been most critical for making power with the S85-EVO: More revs. Indeed, the M5 V10 made peak power at 8,500 RPM before it hits the soft rev limiter, up to a conservative 8,800 cut off - all around, that’s ~ 600 revs higher than stock. It begged for more, but the E60 is my daily. What will the V8 do? Let’s see. My seat-of-the-pants feeling is it will go higher: the usual increased 8,600 RPM cut off came far quicker than it should have. We’ll see how it all translates to wheel power figures, and to 100-200 GPS draggy times. I have FBO baselines with and without tune before cams were installed. Until then, get on waitings lists for the S85 and S65 at euroconnex.co under the tab Bespoke Programs / SXX-EVO. I will be also be revisiting the S54 with a lightened, uprated valvetrain to develop its EVO program shortly. Cheers,

Cold temperatures are over, the BBS are back on with fresh PSS rears. I forgot how incredible this chassis feels - and the steering, ugh! The cam’ed S85 is making immense power, finally able to put most of it down. Conti winters barely lasted 5,000km at the rear. Brake pads were absolutely shot, accelerating plans to develop a new AP based kit for the M5/6 V10. @recaroautomotive Pole Position FIA NG — I recently imported a Pole Position FIA NG in Black Cloth from Germany. It’s destined for @tomtom064 in the @innovauto_am & @drift.hq 1 series V10 drift car. While the FIA is already much slimmer than the ABE, the lower bolsters’ foam will be slightly modified to accommodate Tom’s SuperSport waistline (!). It will be used for custom foam development as a part of the Bespoke Recaro Seat Program @recovered.wrkshp The Pole Position FIA NG is available under all Interior Programs and Seat Sub-Programs of each M chassis. You can also spec it in standard Red Cloth. You can now spec the original Recaro steel side mounts, aftermarket direct-to-floor mounts or side mounts for original sliders. S85-002 updates — It’s been running strong since the dyno tuning session outside of a few little daily driving things. - The previously replaced jobber ICVs from @rockauto_llc gave out in +/- 40,000km and were replaced with original units. - I have a brake pad error from snapping a sensor. - Front links are clapping. - It got super cold in February and the LiPo4 battery needed to be swapped for an AGM. Oil consumption has been monitored, it’s been classic S65/85 behaviour: little consumption in the city, increased consumption on long highway drives. These engines need to be rev’ed and moving through the range. Have I gotten accustomed to the newfound power with the @euro.connex S85-EVO package? Not exactly. 3rd gear, above 6,000 RPM is a whole new experience. You can go from 80% WOT to 100% WOT in 3rd gear and feel a drastic difference. If you keep it WOT, the sequence from 3rd to 6th is otherworldly. It’s making peak power at 8,500 revs. I haven’t yet posted official dyno and draggy times for one simple reason: I am working behind the scenes with suppliers of the upcoming S65 and S85 EVO packages on timelines for production, some are currently unavailable. It will hopefully converge for a launch upon dyno tuning & road testing of the S65-EVO. We’ll see, I want to do it right. Enjoy,

FOR SALE: 1:1 CSL carbon bumper with splitters from Germany —-
This is back up for sale as the previous buyer opted to remain with the OE bumper. I picked it up today from the paint shop, it’s sold as shown. The blue got sanded, and the front section primed. The inside of the bumper got dusted in satin black to remove signs of the previous’ body shop shameful work. The bumper is a complete carbon, made from vacuum infusion in Germany. It’s a 1:1 design with an integrated carrier. It fits great, and with all OEM accessories. As the original CSL bumper, it’s made to fit with the aluminum carrier’s shock absorbers. The horns are bolted to it, and a new wiper fluid reservoir is needed. MSRP is 3,300$ USD. Price: 1,900$ USD + shipping , including the splitters. — I can guide you towards the Genuine BMW SKUs needed to install these products properly. I’m selling as I’m moving to another brand’s carbon bumper with whom we have a few projects going on.

I got around to fitting the latest carbon piece for the E46 M3: the cabin filter cover. Swipe right: it’s easy as 1-2-3 clips. It’s purely an aesthetic, engine dress-up piece. It’s made from pre-preg carbon in 2x2 weave cleared in Gloss. Matte clear coat is optional. The cabin filter housing this sits on is quite heavy (10 lbs +) and expensive to replace. Losing weight at the front, and up top is worth it. I’ve sent a unit out to get a mold started for a lightweight carbon unit. ETA: Summer 24’ You can order the filter cover at @euro.connex. I recently imported this rarely seen @recaroautomotive original complete mounting solution for the E46 M3. It’s a great option for E46 M3 owners that want to start fresh with new floor mounts, manual seats, ergonomic sliders and flash the “RECARO” branding every other opportunity you get. It includes floor mounts, sliders and brackets to mounting either the Pole Position bucket seats or the reclinable Sporster CS and its various bespoke variants we are creating. Recaro has vast OEM supplier experiences and it shows across this kit in various little details - except their instructions shall forever be bollocks (!). Still the kit is fully TUV/EC homologated. Overall, the guys at @recovered.wrkshp were impressed. I’ll be testing it in my car versus the previous OE+ powered sliders solution. This will probably be one of the most expensive mounting solution that will be available in the Bespoke Recaro Seat program. As usual, the program’s development is taking way longer than it should - but we’re getting there. E60 M5 CSL Carbon Roof Panel PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT UPDATE -- The E60's pre-preg carbon roof panel is making progress. After receiving a brand new roof from BMW Germany, it needed a lot of PDR to achieve a perfectly smooth panel. The green you see here was applied to the mold to act as visual cues when applying the pre-preg resin. The pre-production roof should be ready this week and shipped out to me. The E46 is the first of the 3x to get a differential refresh, and exploring final drive gear changes. We got the refresh kit in using Koyo bearings made in Japan, and the various ASA seals needed to complete the work. Having never geeked into differentials, I’m eager to learn - and hopefully avoid mistakes, and understand what the M clunk actually is. This will be another milestone up: we’ll have completed the mechanical restoration and upgrades of the Phoenix. AH! No. Raise your hand if you’ve lied to yourself - it never ends. Yelp - I got this overkill of a BBK in earlier this week for the Phoenix. This is AP Racing’s Pro5000R Clubsport front kit with a 6 piston caliper mated to 355mm 2 piece fully floating disc. I opted for the nickel plated finish for the bling, and it didn’t disappoint. This is a bit lighter than the base brakes - I’ll confirm the weights when we install. I hate the idea of running more rotor than you need up front as you lose out on noticeable unsprung weight savings, most importantly for dual duty purpose. I’m still pondering using an older generation AP caliper with a BMW disc at the rear for a cost effective setup or completing the Pro5000R kit. I’ll circle back with unboxing & driving impressions, comparing the more “radical” Pro5000R versus the RadiCal2 setup on the M3 V8. Should be fun. Details on side pan GTS Motorsport DCT Oil Pan Kits -- The original BMW side pan is made from stamped aluminum - but the material itself is not enough to prevent leaks as previously documented. The gasket's design needed to be improved upon to ensure permanent leak free operation of the DCT. The side pan design is most important, as it requires dropping the transmission to perform its servicing. As with the main pan, the side pan features a machined channel for application of silicone to seal directly to the transmission casing. In consideration of the relative tight area of the transmission tunnel, the side pan closely matches the original pan in shape and dimensions with the addition of fins to further help in heat dissipation. Black stainless steel hardware is included in all side pan purchases. NEW BUILD JOURNAL ENTRY  “It’s not a matter of if, but when.” — This entry documents the various failure points of the DCT transmission using my original “DCT-001” in the V8 M3. 

Back in the Fall of 2021, I was planning to install the S65 DCT Lightweight Flywheel. As it requires the transmission to be dropped, I decided to combine with a complete DCT service. I say sort of as I was initially expected only the main pans to be a leaking problem, but there was more to it. It came out to be an expensive while you’re in there maintenance.

A few little things before dyno day on the S65-EVO. The idle sounds incredible, it has changed compared to the stock-like sound on the V10 with cams. You’ll hear it soon. After much trial and errors on wheel fitment, both inner liners were damaged - and needed replacement. The V8 weirdly needs its strut lowered to remove and install inner liners. The 1:1 GTS lip brackets and lower splitter were removed as I’m taking over the re-creation project entirely on my own via @euro.connex For those that have been following this project, yet another disappointing brand that couldn’t deliver per the target specifications, nor timeline. It will be what we’ve always wanted it to be: plastic - and it’s happening in 2024. With the bumper off, we were able to inspect a few more disappointing paint & body experiences with the sprinkler delete that is sagging - under the PPF. AH! Onwards. Cheers,

Proof of concept for The Kings interior: Still very factory but not a single piece besides the current shifter hasn't been altered. All the fabric covered trim feels alcontara but is actually black suede. The plastics are all dark like BMW anthracite lbut are actually black. The color of all the leather has been changed and of course every bulb changed to white LED. The Phoenix is finally out of jail - without a criminal record! My focus is to catch up on some of the most involving, exciting E46 M3 projects that have been collecting dust on the shelf. - The Bespoke CSL style forged wheels need to have their final test fitment with the widened front end. - The Bespoke Sportster “Strada” Recaro seats are ready to go. - The S54-EVO engine package needs to hit the dyno. - The complete Chassis Optimization kit needs to be dialled in on the rack. - The TTV Clubsport transmission package and GrandAm flywheel need to be fitted & driven out in the real world. […] amongst so many other projects that are in the pipeline. The story on the sanded down paint will be for another time, due process will need to run its course first. PRODUCTION UPDATES -- The first 2x OE+ carbon plenums from BFCM are shipping out, amongst various other carbon trim pieces. The V8's unit @johnr3524's Bespoke Painted carbon plenum in Alpine White III (300) with stencils letting the carbon show through. The V10's units use a standard pre-preg carbon lid with stickers under the clear. This particular example is going on @Edgar_s85 OG 5 series with a S85. I will post weekly updates on production. Tracking numbers are usually issued a few days after production is finalized. I took the opportunity to update the standard Pole Position ABE listing with various side mount options I have tested over the years. You can now spec the original Recaro steel side mounts, direct-to-floor mounts or side mounts for original sliders. I currently support mounts for the E46, E9x and F8x - along with E36 and E85. I recently received TTV’s Clubsport flywheel & twin disc clutch kit for the S54 and the 420G. After hearing lots of great things about it from S65/S85 members on Euroconnex, I’m giving it a shot on the E46. Swipe right to see how the kit is assembled. It uses the same core philosophy as the V8 and V10 kit by reducing overall diameter of the assembly by 25mm, to improve rotational inertia, and package the increased mass of the twin discs closer to the center. The twin disc and pressure plate should give us a relatively friendly clutch feel over the usually stiff heavy duty single clutches. Specs: Weight:

I received the S62 x 420G OE+ lightweight flywheel from TTV Racing this AM. It’s made from carbon forged steel instead of aluminum, higher material density means a more durable design, and the ability to machine the flywheel to a lower central mass versus aluminum. It retains compatibility with the original clutch or equivalent. It’s going to @e39moneypit out in the US who will provide feedback on installation and driving impressions. NEW SPECIAL SERIES “They all leak!” — My E46's been seeping power steering fluid for a year. My V10 blew out a pump, and a rack from lack of fluid. My V8 has been the only non-leaking PS reservoir, luckily - but the pulley just disintegrated itself while doing engine out work. A solution to the PS issues is evidently needed, and this EAE's reservoir is a new option that really hits the bullseyes for my needs. The design is both aesthetically and technically superior to what I've seen, and experienced, having fitted Turner's unit on my V10 (looking like a marmite!). Most important to me, this is made in the USA. In this new Series, I document the culprits, available solutions, and my experience with EAE’s Performance Power Steering Reservoir. The final missing pieces showed up for the redux of the BMW Performance seats. We’re taking a slight design liberty, and opted for a reverse stamped BMW Performance logo. Having done the RECARO reverse stamp over leather on the E46’s Sportsters, it adds a premium, modern touch to the seats. Reversing stamping Alcantara presents new technical challenges for which @dd.rcvrd has extensively, and successfully tested. Embroidery will remain an option for those wanting an the matching logo to the discontinued original seats. We resume work next week to finalize preparations for the launch of the Bespoke Seat Program at euroconnex.co - and we got a new Recaro seat style to add to the lineup. Since 2020, I've been chasing my blueprint for the Ultimate Powertrain Response. My goal has been to augment the high revving naturally aspirated experience of our BMW M powertrains. With all 3x cars having engines cam'ed, lightened flywheels, carbon driveshafts and stiffened chassis, I've set my sights on exploring final drive changes. There are inherent compromises to changing the final drive, and I will document my experiences throughout the process. It starts with this set of BMW Motorsport 4.10 gears into the E46 M3 - it will bring about a domino effect onto the other cars. The E46 M3 has a stock 3.62 that may end up in the M3 V8 DCT - unless I chicken out and source a 3.45. The M3 V8's stock 3.15 might end up in the V10 [...] once it gets its DCT. We speed ran through the S65-EVO cams & lightened valvetrain installation in 3 days. The engine never moved […] instead, the chassis got lowered back onto its subframe - and everything else was reconnected. Now the waiting game until the dyno tuning session begins.
