Today we have a double release anniversary! 🥳💥 First up, today marks the 24th anniversary of Nightwish's 3rd album 'Wishmaster' release! 🔥💥 The writing and recording of 'Wishmaster' was very fast and devoid of complications, in contrast with what had happened for 'Oceanborn'. Tuomas considers the album "the most distant and least personal (...) in the Nightwish catalogue", despite containing the "mother of all Nightwish songs - Dead Boys' Poem." The image of the dead boy would reappear in several songs of the following albums. 'Wishmaster' was issued on 8 May 2000, a few days earlier than its scheduled release, because the music had leaked onto the Internet. Second, on this day 9 years ago Nightwish released 'Endless Forms Most Beautiful single! It is the second single from their eighth album "Endless Forms Most Beautiful". The song was announced on April 17, 2015, alongside its release date and cover, and was eventually released on May 8, 2015 together with a lyric video. According to band's then-bass player Marko Hietala, Endless Forms Most Beautiful was chosen for a single because the band wanted a heavier song for a single after Élan and it has a "simple structure, killer chorus and goes well for a video purpose." 🎉 RELEASE OF THE DAY 🎉 Hey guys, Lina here. 🙃 I've mentioned this on our Facebook page, but I forgot to mention here, that on Dec 7th, 25 years (‼️) ago Nightwish released "Oceanborn"! 🤯🥳 It is the band's second album which was released in Finland by Spinefarm Records on 7 December 1998 and in the spring of 1999 worldwide. It was released by Drakkar Entertainment in the rest of Europe, and by Toy's Factory in Japan. It is also their first album with bassist Sami Vänskä. "Oceanborn" has sold more than 68,000 copies in Finland. The single "Sleeping Sun" was released in August 1999, and the song has been included in every reissue of the album since then. The album was released in the US by Century Media in March 2001. In 2017, Loudwire ranked it as the 10th best power metal album of all time. 💯🔝 This album marked a definitive change in musical scope for Nightwish from their folk-laden roots in "Angels Fall First", showcasing a more bombastic, power metal-oriented sound with faster tempos, harmonic guitar/keyboard leads, and plenty of double-bass-heavy drumwork.
