It’s time once again for our Nonprofit Spotlight of the Week! This week, we are featuring the Dorchester Children’s Advocacy Center (Children in Crisis, Inc.) based in Summerville, South Carolina, right outside of Charleston. The mission of the organization is “to provide a coordinated, evidence-based response to child abuse that reduces trauma and provides treatment for the children and families in our community in a safe child-focused environment.” The Dorchester Children's Advocacy Center provides a vital resource to children and families affected by traumatic events. Masters-level clinicians provide therapy specific to the situation and nature of the abuse, and ensure proper legal documentation is maintained. There is no charge for any of the services provided. Approximately 1,500 clients ranging in age from 0-17 are served by the center each year. The DCAC exists solely through fundraising efforts and donations. Throughout the year, the center holds fundraisers to benefit the children they serve. At the moment, Dorchester Children's Advocacy Center is holding a Back to School Supply Drive to help school-age children get the supplies they need to begin the school year.
