Happy Monday🐾 It’s a new week with new opportunities! 💛HEALING OF NERVES 💛 🐾 Healing of nerves is something I get quite a lot of questions about, probably because many of my clients is recovering or maintaining IVDD (and some is doing preventative treatments) so I thought I’d share about nerves healing process. There’s different types of nerves and healing time do depend on a few different factors. 🐾 Regeneration time depends on how seriously your nerve was injured and the type of injury that your dog has sustained. If the nerve is bruised or traumatized but is not cut, it should recover over 6-12 weeks. A nerve that is cut will grow at 1mm per day, after about a 4 week period of ‘rest’ following your injury. Some dogs notice continued improvement over many months. 🐾 Sensory nerves are more resilient than motor nerves and can recover sensation months or years after injury. Motor nerves have a time limit for healing. The reason for this is a structure called the ‘motor endplate’, where the nerve joins into the muscle. If the motor endplate receives no nerve impulse for more than 18-24 months, it dies away and there is no longer any way that the muscle can be activated by the nerve. The muscle then whithers away. Thus surgical repair of motor nerves needs to happen within 12-18 months of the injury. If you got any questions, please comment below or send me a message ❤️
My baby is recovering so quickly! On 2/21 around 10 pm this angel suddenly lost function of his back legs. He could not stand without falling over and had no feeling whatsoever in both of his feet and legs. The emergency vet said it could be a spinal blood clot or slipped disc. I stayed positive and knew in my heart it was his back. After being awake for 24 hours, I took my baby to the chiropractor and within a day he already regained feeling in both of his feet and legs. His quick recovery tells us that it was definitely a slipped disc! He gets another adjustment today. I’m so thankful for #chiropractic care!!!
