Some super 8mm stills…I am wrapping this edit and found the Northern New Mexico landscape so atmospheric - I find my mind wandering to inspirations influenced by my time living in the southwest - cinematic scenes from movies playing on repeat in my mind - (Jodorowsky currently) - and a dark night spent in Tombstone (well tbh there’s been several strange experiences in Tombstone so there’s that) Super 8mm is such a special medium to me in which not a lot of information is actually recorded but that footage that comes out of it has so much power to move and sway and make you remember how you felt - how everything felt - at that exact time and place. Pro-tip - for as incredible as it is tho - motion film can bring along some unpredictable instances so I always suggest shooting backup digital footage. If there is anything that ever followed Murphy’s Law consistently and diligently- it’s super 8mm film.

Have you ever wondered how to include your dog in your wedding and or engagement photos? 🐕 We are BIG fans of having the fur babies join in on the adventure! The most basic thing to think about when considering bringing your dog to your photoshoot is what gear you want to have with you. We always recommend that our clients bring an extra leash, collar, water, high-value treats, their favorite toys, a towel (which definitely comes in handy when having adventures near water, or if there is a lot of dirt), and a blanket. These are all great tools that can come in handy during the photoshoot. We also recommend bringing a friend or family member the dog is comfortable with for the times when photos of you and your partner are taken without your dog. One of the top reasons couples choose to elope is that they want their day to be an intimate, meaningful experience that allows them to entirely focus on their love without the distractions and stresses of a ‘traditional’ wedding. 🙌 Emily and Michael are one such couple. They decided to elope mainly to avoid the traditional stresses of wedding planning but ultimately to keep the ceremony as intimate as possible. And they did. Inspired by their love of adventure and the great outdoors, mainly the desert, they chose to elope in Saguaro National Park. 🌵They found Diana from @loveandlatitudes, who helped them understand the process and outlined the logistics they were responsible for, such as the special use permit, marriage license, and wedding date. Once they had those items sorted out, they could focus on the fun stuff, like personalizing the details of their day. They kept their guest list small, inviting only their parents and grandparents. Emily’s grandparents live near the park, so they got ready for their day at their southwestern-style adobe home, with a beautiful desert garden where they shared their first look.🪴😍 On their way out the door, Michael surprised Emily with a classic forest green Bronco that he rented to take to the park. Emily’s grandfather officiated their ceremony, while Emily’s grandmother and Michael’s mother shared heartfelt readings. 🧡 After declaring their vows to each other, surrounded by miles of serene desert scape and ancient saguaros, minutes before the sun dipped below the horizon, the newlyweds hopped back into the Bronco just in time to witness the sunset from Javelina Rocks. 🏜️ As the sun set on their wedding day, it was time for their post-elopement celebration—a joyous meal at their favorite burger joint, In-N-Out! 🍔🍟 It was a perfect way to end their unique and intimate wedding day. 🫶 Emily and Michael’s elopement was a one-of-a-kind experience unlike any other we’ve seen, and that’s what made it so special. ✨️ They crafted their day exactly as THEY wanted, and that’s all that matters in the end! A little love letter to Sedona. . . The first time I visited Sedona, I had no idea what it looked like. . . Literally. My friend Emily said it was "pretty" and "had red rocks" but as someone who never had even seen a mountain before, I had zero frame of reference for what to expect. And anyway, just the drive up the 17 was enough for me to be acting like an overly caffeinated toddler. Mountains! Cacti! Flowers! . . Then the red rocks finally came into view and my mind was truly and utterly blown. . . It *still* blows my mind. Whenever I'm driving along and Bell Rock and Courthouse Butte come into view, I'm like "Oh, you. Planet Earth, you are such a show off." . . It's special place to me. It's where where I cut my teeth as an elopement photographer, the first physical place I'd been that truly sparked this love for adventure, and now I live 45 minutes up the road! I’ve been thinking about feeling small a lot lately. Not in an insignificant way, but in a humbling way. . . It’s so easy for me to get stuck on things that, after a time, I realize honestly don’t ultimately matter. Being human seems to come with a special set of blinders that sometimes double as magnifying glasses for uncomfortable things or tough things or anything I label as “bad”...particularly about myself. . . Big, wild places help me take those blinder/goggles off. It automatically snaps things back into perspective for me. It clarifies what really does matter, what the “big deal” things really are. And what they aren’t. . . These are my musings of the day.
