Here we go, Mother’s Day the single largest flower holiday of the year. It’s funny, more men buy flowers for their moms than they do on Valentine’s Day for their lovers. Mother’s Day is a tricky day for me. Currently I am happy to report my mom and I have found peaceful understanding and we are back to our regular routine. That is the power of family bond. I had/have an Aunt who was like my mom/best friend/sister and everything in one. So when Mother’s Day comes around and I think about her. As far as my own motherhood journey, I love my child as much or more as you can love any being. But that doesn’t mean the ideal standard of motherhood comes easily or naturally to me. It does come naturally to some. I envy those mothers. I tell my son, “I love you, I’m just a different kind of mom.” I don’t cook or play, but he will have other experiences that are unique to him. While I am not ready for him to grow up, I’m very curious to see how he turns out. In the end, will I have done a good job? Will I have raised an empathetic white man who does not feel entitled to the world? We will see. Sending love to all those for whom today is a complicated day. Sending even more love to the people in war town countries who have lost their children and lost their mothers. A heartwound is the same regardless of nationality. So, light a candle today, say a prayer, wish for peace, wish that all children can feel love, and grow to be adults who will make our world a better place. It is ok to make wishes.
