Last week I had the pleasure of launching THE COCKTAIL PARLOR with @anthropologie at a cocktail and toast workshop in their beautiful Westport CT location as part of their summer Set to Soirée event series. Against the stunning backdrop of the store our eyes were treated to a feast of swoon worthy florals by @threerootsfloraldesign while we nibbled on delectable cocktail bites provided by @palmersevents. The theme of the occasion was Personalization and together we crafted signature sour cocktails and wrote signature toasts which we delivered in stemware custom etched by the brilliant @nobhilljane. There was much to celebrate that afternoon, it was a truly magical experience I will never forget. What a fun weekend it was, we navigated our way right through the rain wonderfully! Got a shot of the Saturday night crew after a wild Derby Day wine walk put on by our friends and neighbors at Lone Star Winery and Historic Downtown McKinney! Tish, Caden, Sharyn and Diana all lookin’ fine and dapper in their own derby day derbies! Ya gotta love a good race. I’ve always been a NASCAR fan cause I appreciate the idea of man and machine running flat out as fast as possible! I’ll admit there’s something even more exciting going on today and that’s the Kentucky Derby, the most remarkable two minutes in racing history! Here’s a super refreshing semi-sorta-sweet treat, it’s a Prosecco Sorbet Float! Prosecco is a light bodied sparkling white wine made from Glera grapes grown in the village of Prosecco, Italy. It lands on the dryer side of sweet with notes of tropical fruit, vanilla and honey so it pairs very well with a whole bunch of our fruity sorbets. I kinda like it with our “Summer In A Cup” peach sorbet infused with Cooley Bay peach wine and a shot of peach brandy, but your tastes may vary… 😉 It’s another partly sunny kinda cloudy day today with a slim chance of an early evening shower. It’s a rainy Saturday here in McKinney and I don’t know who’s gonna brave going outside today, so I figured I’d share something a little different. We got us a new batch of baby chickens on the farm last week… 😊 I assembled a 4 x 4 x 2 nursery for them years ago when we first began and it still comes in handy every two years. These are Black Australian Orpingtons or Black Australorps for short and they’re growing up quick; many are feathering-out nicely already! In a couple more weeks I’ll give them the run of the whole 12’ x 12’ barn stall that is their coop and they’ll meet the adult birds up close and personal. It’ll take them another few weeks before they work up the courage to wander through the coop door to visit the great outdoors for the first time! The grown hens are gonna think twice about going outside today… 😆 In about 9 months the young’uns should begin to produce eggs for us and we’ll share them with as many of ya as we can! Raising hens is easy, enjoyable, very rewarding and they fit in nearly any yard. They’re quiet too. If any of you are thinking about getting started with a small flock (highly recommended), I’ll be happy to answer any questions you might have anytime! We will of course be at the shop today doin’ what we do, keeping the doors open for you crazies who are gonna be out and about regardless of the weather… 🤣 It’s certainly a day for raincoats and umbrellas! This one is my new favorite, the “Italian Sweet Margarita”; it’s got it all y’all! I’ve always loved cherries, especially those big beautiful Bing cherries when in season, which is coming soon! This margarita features muddled Amarena cocktail cherries with lime and agave giving it its bright red color, amaretto and blanco tequila for a rich boozy kick; ya gotta love the sweet Italian twist on this classic Mexican drink! Top on our Spring menu, top on my list too… 😁 A cloudy and damp start to our Tuesday today but things are gonna dry up soon. We should see the sun by lunchtime and that sun’s gonna warm the day up to about 85 degrees, nice! Cooler air moves back in over the weekend and with it the chance for thunderstorms goes up. It’s a beautiful weekend in Historic Downtown McKinney and the Arts are in Bloom around the square! Opening night was a ton of fun and today’s gonna be lots more of the same! The festivities feature arts and crafts gathered together from across Texas, food trucks and vendors (I hear there’s lobster rolls… 😋), lots of beer and wine tents set up, music playing and fun and games for the little ones too! It’s the weekend friends and what a weekend it’s gonna be! First up, it’s live music Friday and tonight we feature one of Texas’ greatest guitarists! I’m not kidding… Guitar World Magazine listed Brad Davis gtr as one of the top five all time Texas pickers! The man is a wizard, really and I’m very lucky he’s my buddy! First set starts at 8:00, second at 9:30. Next up it’s the Arts In Bloom + Wine festival here in our lovely downtown district! The square is blocked to vehicular traffic so people are free to wander amongst the many pop-up vendors full of arts, crafts and groovy things, brought to you by talented people from all over our greatest state! With a chill vibe this is a family friendly event, so gather your own and enjoy the colorfully artistic transformation of Historic Downtown McKinney all weekend long! We thought we’d get a little creative for ya on this very interesting Moonday afternoon. Y’all know we’re in the path of a total solar eclipse going down at about 1:40 PM but do you know exactly what it is that does the eclipsing? You thought the moon was made of cheese but I’m here to tell ya, it’s made of pie, MoonPie to be specific, and I even got the picture to prove it… 😆 There’s a lot of folks in town coming to view this fascinating phenomenon, so to commemorate the occasion we’re offering Moon Pie sundaes with our special “Moon Pie In The Sky” ice cream, made with many Moon Pies and infused with chocolate whiskey, while supplies last! Do y’all know what day this is? I mean besides Tuesday… which it does in fact happen to be. It’s a day of staggering cultural import and honors a combination as old and American as time itself, 1901 as a matter of fact; the first known example appearing as a recipe in the Boston Cooking School Magazine! It is estimated that the average American will consume 1,500 before graduating high school; today we celebrate the amazing PB&J with our own “Peanut Butter Jelly Time” ice cream, a fruity grape flavored cream with a sweet peanut butter swirl! Y’all know I’ve been talkin’ about our new bartender Tish, it’s high time ya got to meet her in person! In the few short weeks she’s been with us her impact is being felt in a big way already! From gettin’ that beautiful popcorn machine up and regularly running to handling raucous karaoke Wednesday nights, to mixing up delicious drinks for one and all, she’s on a mission to make a difference and we are very lucky to have her on board! Lemme tell ya, we’re really starting to get this “bar” thing down! Our new tender Tish (y’all still need to meet Tish, I know) is taking the reins and really lettin’ that horse run! Holy moly I’ve been spinnin’ a whole bunch of gallons this week which means we’ve been busy and that’s a very good thing! About to enter into Big Frigid are these 6 gallons of Salted Butter Caramel Crazy, 3 at a time; that should see us through the weekend! It’s a big weekend too with St. Patrick’s Day on Sunday, a weekend where everyone is at least a little bit Irish… ☘️☘️☘️ We didn’t get near as much rain as I expected, most of what I got here I got overnight. North of us got hit pretty hard, hopefully no damaged property. It may be overcast but I’m thinking we’re in the clear for live music Friday with the Gatos Muertos Fan Club! Today is a pretty cool day, especially if you dig math, and circles, and pie. What do all these things have in common? π “What kind of crazy Greek letter is that”, you might ask? “I have no idea”, I’d reply, “that’s Pi”! Pi, it turns out, is an irrational number with no end. So too is our appetite for pie and ice cream, irrational and without end… 😆 Today happens to be 3/14, the first three digits of pi, so it’s literally PIE day today and to celebrate we’re hookin’ YOU up with delicious Texas Hand Pies and boozy ice cream just like this dude right here! A bourbon vanilla peach hand pie with our peach brandy infused, Allman Brothers inspired “Eat A Peach” ice cream! A little caramel fudge and bourbon vanilla whipped cream would turn this into quite the sundae! Friends, I think them no-rain vibes are workin’! Not for today mind you, it’s gonna rain today, an 80% chance of thunderstorms anyway. I’m gonna go out on a limb and say a bunch of ya know what this stuff is! Yep, it’s the ever popular, always enjoyable, addictive but fun, Salted Butter Caramel Crazy… 😆 Now available in “shot mode” as well; a 50/50 mix of Ole Smokey and Baileys salted caramel liquid gold! Y’all know the ice cream, it’s got my favorite Heath Bar crumbles all mixed right in there! Put a couple scoops in a waffle cup, drizzle some salted caramel sauce and add a few more crumbles and we got us some ice cream magic, yes we do… 😉 We got us another nice day in store but the weather takes a turn for the stormy tomorrow afternoon. What’s that Sharyn got in her hand? Another one of our March Madness crafty cocktails for ya, the Irish Mule! It’s kinda like a Moscow Mule but it’s from Dublin instead… 😆 A healthy pour of Jameson Irish Whiskey, some lime juice to add a dash of tart, top it off with a splash of zesty ginger beer straight from the soda gun and gimme a wedge of lime to squeeze right in there too! It’s a very refreshing twist on a classic tasty tipple! Monday… the work week begins anew. Got a little rain here overnight but overall we’re lookin’ at what oughta be a pretty nice day! The sun’ll burn through the cloud cover and brighten our skies bringing the temps up to almost 70! I’ll take that. Made a batch of one of my favorites just the other day, “White Chocostachio”! Took this picture lookin’ down on a whole bunch of whole pistachios and a goodly amount of chocolate covered ones too, about to get covered with the rest of this buckets yummy payload! I infuse this white chocolate based ice cream with a pistachio liqueur made by a lovely family on the Amalphi coast of Italy and if y’all want to get yourself a bottle or 6 (it’s to die for!) you can look ‘em up at Antichi Sapori d'Amalfi, they make delicious limoncello and lots more too! Enjoyed a bit of that last night… 😉 The rain in Spain (Texas) has moved mainly off the plain! Texas has got so many towns I figure it must have a Spain somewhere… 😆 It ain’t raining and the sun’s out and shining bright! It’s a bit nippy, we’ll see a high of only 58 degrees today but the more Spring-like temps bounce back quickly over the next few days! It’s still a real nice day to be outside lookin’ for things to do! A good day to ya friends and a mighty fine day it’s gonna be! It may have started off on the soggy side but that’s not the way it’s gonna end! After posting that lovely Grasshopper picture yesterday, here’s the March menu which contains it today! There’s several more goodies to choose from including; the Irish Cold Brew with Jameson, flavored cold brew coffee and cream (or not). Then we got an Appletini with vodka, apple schnapps, apple juice and a dash of lemon. Another I happen to like a lot, the Irish Mule, again with Jameson (are y’all detecting a pattern here?), ginger beer and lime! St. Paddy’s Day rolls around later this month and we wanna be prepared… 😉 No, we won’t have green beer… 😆 A Grasshopper shake for sure… 😁 Got a pair of tasty shots as well; the Lucky Leprechaun and Peppermint Patty! Well, we got us some rain today and I’m glad for a change. Put down 400 pounds of various grass seed on the pasture yesterday and I don’t have the sprinklers to water it in; could use a good soaking and hopefully I timed it right! I could get myself into some trouble with these… 😆 March is here and with it our specialty drinks of the month! I’ll post the menu tomorrow but had to share this toddy today. The perfect St. Paddy’s Day potable, the ever popular Grasshopper! A mix of white crème de cocoa, green creme de menth and fresh cream; topped with a touch of bourbon vanilla whipped cream and a sprinkle of Andes mints in a martini glass garnished with chocolate sauce! A fresh twist on an old classic and a delicious one at that! Bar tip: leave out the cream and make it a green mint chocolate shot… 😉 The fine weather continues for another day anyway! We got some rain gonna fall tomorrow and into Friday morning. I’m gonna take advantage of that and lay some fresh seed on the pasture today; bought some fescue, rye, clover and bermuda over at the Collin County Feed & Seed to nourish two new young steer we got comin’ our way. Have y’all met our super duper ice cream scooper Caden? He’s been with us for some time now and usually works the weekend shifts. Caden attends a local Christian school and helps out his own church on Sunday mornings. His favorite flavor is Cookies-n-Cream with extra Oreo crumbles! He enjoys video games and actually has the brains and ability to write the code which makes them tick! I tried learning code once; that’s why I make ice cream… 😆 Caden is great with you our customers, is hard working, intelligent and polite; it’s a pleasure to have him on our team and we’re sure y’all will feel the same, so be sure to say hello the next time you see him… 😊 It’s a back to work Tuesday after a quick Monday off.
