This upbringing forms the bedrock of success for HS1 Boomgarden’s journey in the Coast Guard. She honors her Filipino heritage by participating in cultural events within her community, such as Philippines Fest, a celebration of traditional Filipino dishes. A Filipino community is never hard to find no matter where she’s stationed. In order to share her passion for her native cuisine she also makes her favorite Filipino dishes for guests at home and potlucks. Her favorites are chicken adobo and sinigang (sour pork stew). As part of the AANHPI community, HS1 Boomgarden believes in diversifying the Coast Guard and inspiring others from similar backgrounds to join. The Lateral Entry Program opened the door for that dream to be possible. She is going to her first duty station at Tracen Yorktown and is excited about the challenge. She only spent three weeks here at Tracen Petaluma for evaluation but said she would love to return as an instructor sometime in her career.
