Hi friends!! Here are some things that make sense in my head, that have zero evidence behind them other than the fact….it makes sense to me! 😅 - When doing anything in the farm truck the radio has to be on AM stations or things just aren’t right. - When looking back at b/w or very sepia faded pictures of my grandparents, that’s how they saw the world. There wasn’t vibrant skies or colour. - A Lady Bugs age is dependant on how many spots are on their backs - Porcupines can shoot their quills, they just choose not to.. - Cows have best friends and there is always gossip in the herd. - If any of your limbs are out of the blankets, you’re asking to be pulled outta bed…under the blankets you safe. - Combining is like giving the field a hair cut - Rabbits actually just have two fur coats in their closets they wear, one white and one brown! They’re seasonal fashionistas - If you shut the light off down stairs and don’t run up the stairs you’re fair game for the basemen creatures. Beyond thankful I took these beautiful pictures of Agnes last week in the fog ✨ Yesterday morning Agnes snapped her right horn, down to the base. We cannot figure out how this happened. She wasn’t caught or tangled in anything, wasn’t eating out of bunks or fence line feeders. I searched the ground in the field she’s in and couldn’t find any blood to indicate where this could have happened. This is truly a mystery. We brought her into the corral, assessed her, gave her medicam and she spent the night in a clean pen in the barn. After assessing, I’ve decided that im going to take her to the vet for further assessments. I’m fairly certain they will remove the horn. With that, there is no guarantee that her horn will ever grow back. But I am certain unicorns are pretty cool! I’m so sad that her horn is broken, but in the end she’s still here with us and carrying a little baby. Even if she did have the most perfect symmetrical, tipped up horns lol. She’s still just as beautiful! ✨ If my husband hadn’t noticed her yesterday morning things could have been much worse. 852’s sweet adoption story ✨ For those who didn’t get a chance to follow along my Instagram stories about this mama. Here’s her story 🫶🏻 This mama had a rough start to her calving this year. She slipped, was head butt, or who knows what sent her into early labour… but her calf didn’t survive. This calf was anywhere from a month - two months early, and wasn’t properly developed. We searched for a orphan calf for a few days and couldn’t find anything as it’s not common to calve this year. It had been about four days when we came across hiefer calf from a friend! She was a twin and her mom didn’t have enough milk. My husband went and got her, brought her home and we started the adoption process. The first thing we did was get 852 in the chute and see if she still had her milk, and she did. We brought the calf in and she started sucking, and she let her milk down! Now if you have cows, you’re probably in a bit of disbelief that she let this calf suck… we were shocked too. With a few nights in the barn/chute sucking, we were able to kick them outside together. This was the tester… would she realize this baby was hers outside and not just in the barn. And she did… she bawled for this baby, cleaned the baby, and was letting it suck in an open pen. We tagged the calf to match her and they have since moved into the next pen with other cows! 852 just really wanted a baby, and she’s a really great mom. In my experience, this is a rare case. Adopting a calf onto a cow can take weeks, months or not ever work. A few of my favourite poses to do with a baby that you can do at home! ⬇️ 1. The infamous cheek kiss, I loooove doing this pic so the families can remake it later in life. I think it’s so cute the way the babies cheeks always squish! 2. If they can sit, prop them up! It usually makes kids happy to have sometime to stretch and not be held after a car ride! 3. Of course some poses/candid family ones where you can see everyone’s full body! Kids grow SO fast so it’s nice to see how small they were in your arms! 4. Have fun! Put them up in the air and have them look down at mom and dad! Usually this gets a smile… or drool lol! 5. Standing with mom and dad! Again, this is good to give them a stretch and show how tall they are at that time! 6. Have mom and dad look at each other and get that little one in focus looking at you! This is one of my favourites!
