This plant is called Henbit, it comes into bloom every spring in farmers fields throughout the Midwest. Is it strange that I have dreamed of taking harvest pictures in a field of Henbit? In my book, there is no failed hunt as long as you learn something. What did I learn? A 6ft man in a 5ft truck bed makes for a rough night’s sleep. I also learned that truck camping and hunting out of your truck don’t mix the way my truck is setup. So it’s back to the drawing board, that’s just the truck. This trip has been one for the books! The wind blew insanely hard all day, making it difficult to keep my arrow on the rest, let alone get a shot off. We knew I needed a close opportunity because of the conditions, and I finally got my chance at this old male as he was butting heads with another mature Ibex. Both were so preoccupied during the sparring match that they didn't notice our presence as I snuck in to 12 yards and took a shot. My arrow hit its mark, resulting in a short recovery. Im so very proud of Drake Barton for completing his Grand Slam in Florida today with this beautiful Osceola! I can remember back to my early teen years and the thought of ever getting a grand slam myself, much less sharing that with my children was a very distant dream! At a very young age Drake killed his first turkey yet this is our third year in a row to try completing his grand slam by coming to Florida. To say my heart is happy would be a vast understatement!
