Real-life artist @adamparata was commissioned by AI customer service company @intercom to create illustrations for its new website. AI was in fact used in this project - not to generate the final pieces, as one might have expected from an AI-based client - but to generate concept imagery for the early briefing stages (pictured in slide 5), enabling Intercom to quickly and clearly communicate its ideas to the artist. Adam then came through the human touch - creating hero illustrations which were irreverent, idiosyncratic, idyllic and visionary all at once. As stated by Intercom's VP of product design, Emmet Connolly, this approach to AI is "not about replacing humans, it’s about removing drudge work so that humans can do their core job better." Before landing on the final look for Primo’s last year, I explored a few other directions for the brand. I just stumbled across this one in the archives. Primo’s deli is in San Pedro California and so much of this city’s history revolves around the port of Los Angelas. Hard working longshoreman and their families have called San Pedro home for generations. Jonah talked a lot about this and how the sights, smells and sounds of the harbor are so nostalgic and comforting to those that grew up there. He painted an incredible picture of this place for me, so I did my best to paint (or draw) my own pictures. Here are just a few from that concept.

🧩 Last year @_scalabor , from Arnhem, asked me to make illustrations. It started with an illustration process where we had to capture the style since there was nothing there yet. This was followed by some elaborations with individual illustrations for the website. One of the illustrations we created also ended up on a puzzle. How cool! Family portraits …where it all began! 👩👧👦 Can you believe it’s been 10 years since I started my illustration journey by creating portraits in my Etsy store? What began as a side hustle to my graphic design job has grown into something pretty awesome! With Mother’s Day just past and this week being #NationalFamiliesWeek, I’m feeling all the nostalgia and excitement! 🌟 Back then, as a newly single mum with two little ones, I needed extra income but didn’t want to miss out on precious moments with my kids. So, I burned the midnight oil, drawing families while they slept. Those nights were tough, but illustrating family portraits brought me so much joy and completely changed my perspective on what family truly means. The smiles, the love, the excitement from my customers when they received their portraits—there’s nothing like it! Every family is unique and special in its own way, and I loved capturing that magic. Fast forward to today, my illustration skills have evolved, and I’m thrilled to design and illustrate for brands that cater to families. My life’s journey led me to this special niche, and it feels incredible to help them grow and succeed! AND, after seeing how illustration has changed my perspective on life, I’m on a mission to help other graphic designers grow their businesses with illustration too.
