We took a very young junior team, who competed in strong mixed breed classes against Limousin and Charolais. 🥉 Usain placed 3rd in the Junior Bull class 🏅 Umbrella on her first time off the farm placed 4th in Junior Heifer class, being very much the baby of the class Both were very well behaved all day for their first show of the year! ✨ Calf Spam No12 ✨ Introducing Vienna! ✅ Heifer Calf ✅ 41kg ✅ Slight assist with the ropes ✅ 1st of the main herd to calve Her sire is Whistley OllyP, and her mum is Whitepeak Ovoid an Allacott Judge daughter. Ovoid decided to start calving in the cubicles on the day I'd planned on cleaning out the calving pens. So I quickly moved her into the calving pen and commenced cleaning out the rest of the shed. Unfortunately this meant she didn't settle down to calve and so I gave her a little pull to help things along. British Blonde Whistley Olly 46kg Unassisted Birth Calved in first cycle Pancake's first blondeX calf last year was full sister butterscotch (photo No.3) who we decided to keep as she's such a character. Myrtle is named with this year's Harry Potter theme for crossbreds. Pancake is arguably the steadiest cow on the farm, fully expressing the "dopey" or "donkey-like" traits from her two breeds. When handling the cows for TB testing or PDing etc, she will stand in the way like a battleship. If you thought Longhorns were stubborn, you've never met Pancake! In contrast her twin sister Pumpkin is the complete opposite personality. Standoffish and not interested in making friends whatsoever, I don't think I've ever managed to pet her.
