30 weeks with belly buddy. He’s 3/4 of the way to making his entrance into the world. 💙 Swipe to hear the boys answers recently about the baby and see their initial reaction from February. And just for fun here are answers to the most common questions/comments I’ve gotten since announcing. -He’s a boy. We all knew it was a boy prior to the embryo transfer. He was the intended parents last embryo. -I did not know the family prior to this process. We were matched through an agency. They live about an hour away. -He’s not genetically related to me. He came from his mom’s egg and his dad’s sperm. -He has a mom, dad and big sis (also born by gestational carrier) excited to meet him. -The boys and I will meet him after he’s born, but we will not have a close relationship following the delivery. -My boys know the baby in my belly isn’t ours and won’t be coming home with us. They say he’s in my belly because his mommy’s belly doesn’t work like that. -No I’m not at all afraid I’m going to be attached or it’s going to be hard to give him to his parents. He isn’t mine and never was. -I’ve wanted to do this for years. My aunt has struggled with fertility for a very long time (but thankfully was eventually able to get pregnant) and I’ve always (knock on wood) had “easy” pregnancies so I’m thankful to be able to help someone have a baby of their own. -The intended parents come to ultrasound appointments but other than that we check in with each other occasionally through text. I’ll forever be thankful for people who I personally know that reach out when they need help. The trust that shows they have in me, will forever have an impact on my heart 🫶🏼 My belly buddy got all of my colostrum I was able to save beforehand & everything I made until they left, so I’m thankful she got to have a little too! Exclusive pumping is not for the weak… it’s a lot of time, dedication and sometimes includes blood, sweat & tears! I choose to pump even after surrogacy journeys for multiple reasons- it helps regulate your hormones. Your body is made to nurse after a baby is born, so why not help myself. It can help you lose weight- and no it’s not the same for everyone! And probably the biggest reason, is the sense of purpose it gives me… After a surrogacy journey ends, a lot of surrogates feel “lost”. We’re not sad we don’t have a baby (we’re happy haha), we don’t miss them like most think… but we were so needed for a year (or so) & then its all just done! You’ve successfully given your IP’s their miracle, you’re so happy for them, but you’re not needed anymore… So to get to donate milk for a little while and help someone else, just makes my heart happy and transition a little better! I also love sharing my milk & donation journey because it always helps at least one person! Whether it opens the door for someone to ask questions, to give them the encouragement to pump & donate themselves or even just to silently watch- I’m glad I can be there to help 🤍 I don’t know how long I’ll pump this time. I didn’t give myself any goals. I’m just taking it day by day and week by week, and that’s okay! Babysitting until July 2024! To say I feel blessed to be on this journey is an understatement! Becoming a gestational carrier is something I only ever prayed I would be able to do. I followed my heart and after two and a half years of research, being accepted to an agency this time last year, and matching with the sweetest and most deserving couple, my surrogacy journey started. The countless blood draws, psych evaluations, medical tests, and injections were all worth it to get to this point. 32 weeks💕🤯 It’s crazy how fast pregnancy goes by! I feel like the process of trying to get pregnant was so long and drawn out but as soon as that 12 week mark hits the rest just fly’s by! One of the most common comments I have received about being a surrogate is “I could never do what you’re doing. I don’t think I could give the baby away.” At times I have felt that maybe I am senseless because it’s such a common thing for people to say and ask. But then I remember, the way I see it, I’m not “giving the baby away.” I’m so blessed that this little babes dads trusted me enough to hold and carry their baby for them. I was the one given the privilege to give this baby BACK to his dads and given the opportunity to be a part of one of the most beautiful moments a parent could have. So no, I don’t think I will have a hard time once this little guy decides to make his appearance. There has been years of thinking about this whole process and preparing my mind about that exact moment. There will be joy and excitement and nervousness but never grief because I’m not losing anything. I get to gain an experience that will be once in a lifetime. I knew going into this type of experience I would have lots of comments and different opinions towards me. Thankfully most people are so kind and supportive! I will always welcome questions and discussions about surrogacy and my journey! I try to never get offended or defensive because there are so many things that go into this process and really the only way to learn is to ask questions! So please don’t stop with the questions!
