History of open air bath in Japan _______________________________________________ The history of open-air baths is deeply linked to the development of Japanese hot spring culture, dating back to ancient times. Ancient documents and poems depict their use as natural spa locations. In ancient Japan, hot springs were used by nobles and warriors for healing and purification, as noted in the "Nihon Shoki" and "Manyoshu." During the medieval era, hot springs served as religious sites and places for ascetic practices. Monks used open-air baths for spiritual and physical purification, and samurai and travelers also used them for recuperation. In the Edo period, hot spring travel expanded among the general populace, leading to the development of numerous spa towns. Open-air baths served as social venues and cultural spots, enhancing the economy of these areas with improved lodging and services. After the Meiji Restoration, with the influence of Western culture, modernization of hot spring facilities progressed, promoting more hygienic environments. Especially after WWII, open-air baths gained popularity as resort facilities, with modern designs focusing on privacy. Today, they offer relaxation amidst nature, attracting tourists from both Japan and abroad. Thus, open-air baths have evolved as a cherished culture intimately connected with Japanese nature. _______________________________________________ 🔸Kyotoya Guesthouse #15 “Tsukinoyu-Bettei” Adress:739-3 Sumizomecho, Fushimi Ward, Kyoto City Nearest station: Sumizome-station About room: maximum 6 people, for 1 group reserved Bed room: 2 Japanese-style bedroom 1 Shower room 2 Toilets (each floors) 1 Open-air bath Other service: we rent baby goods for our guests. ・3 minutes away from the nearest staiton by walk.

Next to the kitchen, there is a family space. _______________________________________________ For Japanese people, the significance of the "chanoma" (tea room) lies in its role as a space for nurturing tradition, culture, and bonds among family and friends. The tea room serves as the focal point for communication and interaction within the household, embodying traditional Japanese lifestyle and values. It is a place to enjoy traditional arts such as the tea ceremony (chanoyu) and flower arrangement (ikebana). Additionally, it provides a relaxed environment for spending time with family and friends while sipping tea, as well as appreciating the changing seasons throughout the year. Traditional Japanese architecture and interior design elements such as engawa (verandas), tatami mats, and low tables often characterize the tea room. For Japanese people, the tea room holds great importance as a space for strengthening bonds with loved ones. The time spent there offers a precious opportunity to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life and find inner peace. _______________________________________________ 🔸Kyotoya Guesthouse #14 “HIKARU-OIKE” Adress:552 Sanbō-Nishiiru, Dōincho, Nakagyō-ku, Kyoto City Nearest station: Karasuma Oike-station About room: maximum 6 people, for 1 group reserved Bed room: 1 bedrooms and 2 Japanese-style bedroom 1 Shower room 2 Toilets (each floors) Other service: we rent baby goods for our guests. ・9 minutes away from Nijo jo-castle by walk.

Kyoto-tower, why are you short?? _______________________________________________ The height of Kyoto Tower is 131 meters. It may seem relatively low compared to other skyscrapers or towers in different cities, but it was intentionally designed this way to preserve the scenic and cultural heritage of Kyoto. Kyoto boasts a rich historical landscape and cultural heritage, and there's a cautious approach towards constructing tall buildings to maintain the city's aesthetic and environmental integrity. Consequently, Kyoto Tower was designed to blend harmoniously with its surroundings, hence its modest height. Built in 1957, Kyoto Tower is a historic landmark and a popular tourist attraction. During its construction era, it stood out as a tall structure. Even today, it remains a beloved symbol of Kyoto. _______________________________________________ 🔸Kyotoya Guesthouse #12 “Sarasa” Adress:23 Higashikujō Kamitonodachō, Minami Ward, Kyoto City Nearest station: Kyoto-station About room: maximum 5 people, for 1 group reserved Bed room: 2 bedrooms 1 bathroom 1 Toilet Other service: we rent baby goods for our guests.

@sc.int.pro.cisa #scintprocisa2024 #CollegialSainteAnne #2230130 #CDcisaH24 #StageArchitecture #ArchitectureJaponaise #ArchitectureSociale #VivreEnsemble #InnovationArchitecturale #DesignDurable

One of the symbols of Kyoto “Kamo-river”, what does this river mean to Kyoto? _______________________________________________ Since ancient times, the upper reaches of the Kamo-river were the strongholds of the Kamo clan, and the lower reaches were the strongholds of the Hata clan. For the Kamo clan, the Kamogawa River is considered a sacred river, and its water has been used for religious ceremonies such as purification and Shinto rituals since ancient times.
