But it was thrown in my face by someone who’ll remain nameless that I had everything given to me and was spoon fed my success. But damn when I look back I had two teammates in the #UFC and 2 #KOTC champions and as my manager team on day one of starting! “I’m not the greatest bantamweight of all time despite my injuries, I’m the greatest bantamweight of all time BECAUSE of my injuries.” Dominick Cruz is a two-time @ufc Bantamweight Champion and final WEC Bantamweight Champion. As of December, 2022, he is ranked #7 in the UFC bantamweight rankings. Despite these accolades, much of Dominick Cruz’s life has been shaped by what if’s. To his testament - Dom Cruz never made an excuse. Cruz was born in San Diego, California, and is of Mexican descent. He lived with his single mother, grandmother, and brother in a trailer park in Tucson for most of his childhood. He started wrestling in 7th grade and competed all through high school (@flowingwellshs ). After an injury his senior year, he lost the opportunity to get a scholarship to wrestle at the @universityofnortherncolorado which greatly impacted his life. Cruz went on and worked as a customer service representative at @loweshomeimprovement , and was studying to be a firefighter at community college before becoming a full-time fighter. @dominickcruz is known for his unorthodox movement, powerful wrestling base, quick striking, and tendency to attack from angles unlike any other fighter. He won the WEC bantamweight title in March 2010 and won the inaugural UFC Bantamweight Championship the following December. After defending the belt twice in ‘11, Cruz was sidelined by injuries in ‘12 and subsequently stripped of the title in 2014. The saga of Cruz’s failed ACL surgery on his left knee is well documented. He didn’t fight for almost 3 years, recovering from 2 ACL tears and surgeries on his left knee and a groin tear. On January 17, 2016, he regained the bantamweight championship with a split-decision win over @tjdillashaw . Numerous media outlets called this victory the greatest comeback story in MMA history. Sports medicine has improved, but in many sports a single ACL tear can ruin your career and slow you down. Cruz had 3 on 2 knees and still regained his championship as a fighter that relied heavily on speed and explosiveness. Cruz is a testament to the capabilities of our mind and body to overcome any setback.
